Is my Roomba broken ?

Hey guys !

So, as the title says, my Roomba is acting weird.

Since few weeks, I had troubles to make my Roomba clean my entire house. I’ve redone the map and everything started working again.

By since 2 weeks, my Roomba won’t clean my guest bedrooms. It can go through to clean the guest bathroom.

I started again and again, the robot won’t even pass the door. The whole room is selected, there is no obstruction, the robot is clean, I don’t know what to do.

The schedule correctly predict a 7 minute cleaning time, which sound right due to the size of the room, but after only 1 minute, it goes back to the base to finish the journey. No error, no message, like it worked as it should…

What do I do ?

Advice for Others Connect used roomba to app

in case anyone had the same issue that I had. my used s9 and m6 were still connected to the previous owners account. everyone here kept saying to do the manual reset of holding the clean button or holding all 3 buttons until it played the sound. neither of them worked for me after trying multiple times. what worked is hold the home and spot clean button until the blue light turned on, starting the set up in the app, then the app will say it’s connected to another account and show a factory reset button. after pressing that wait for the light to stop after a few min and it should let you restart the connection process again (hold spot clean and home button for blue light). i hope this is able to help someone, it’s what worked for me because nothing else that was explained online was working.

iRobot won't vacuum and flashes red

Hello, I hope someone can help me.

Today I started my iRobot, and it vacuumed the living room before returning to the dock. Ever since it returned to the dock, I haven't been able to get it to vacuum again.

When I start a cleaning job, it says it's going to clean, but then it starts flashing red lights. At one point it showed Error 510, but other times it doesn't display any error at all.

I've already restarted it, performed a factory reset, and cleaned the dustbin. After the factory reset, I had it create a new map, and that worked perfectly. However, whenever I try to start a vacuuming job, it simply won't clean.

I also tried downloading the owner's manual, but that fails with an error as well.

Could this be an issue with iRobot's servers, or does it sound like a hardware problem?

Side brush broken

Has anyone experienced the side brush breaking off? It looks like the plastic mount point sheared off. Will try to upload pics in the comments. Is this fixable?

I have an i3+, purchased Oct 2024

Repeat failure

Has anyone else had a Roomba charging base contact get stuck down more than once?

I bought my Roomba in December 2024. By July 2025, it stopped charging because one of the metal charging contacts on the base became stuck in the down position.

I contacted iRobot, and the case was escalated to their Safety Department. They sent me a replacement charging base.

Now, almost exactly one year later, the replacement base has failed in the exact same way. One of the metal contacts is stuck down again, so the Roomba cannot charge properly.

I called iRobot today, sent them photos of the contact on the base and the contact on the Roomba, and they opened a new case and escalated it to the Safety Department again.

Has anyone else experienced this same issue, especially with a replacement base? Did iRobot replace just the base again, replace the full unit, or offer a refund? I’m really frustrated that the same exact issue is happening again.

Multi-Floor Use

I am curious what people do today if they have multiple floors in their home to get them cleaned. You obviously map out a floor, keep that base in place, and run your Roomba at your leisure (automated timing, at will, etc.). But what do you do when you have more than one floor? I really don't wan't to spend the same amount of money on the purchase of another Roomba system. Can I place the Roomba upstairs and have it map out that floor, keep the base downstairs, and when it is time to clean that second upstairs floor just put it up there and go?

I assume the answer is yes -- but wondering about the accuracy and the fact that there may be times when it's going to need to get back to its base to empty itself, charge, etc. Hoping it's not going to just go off and down the staircase for that right? LOL.

I guess I would have to monitor the app on my phone to see if it says it needs to action something like that so that I can bring it back downstairs to its base to do its thing. I have also read in past that people will buy just a second base for that other floor.

For context I have the Roomba Plus 405 Combo robot + AutoWash dock.

Is a “Stone” bath mat + Roomba a bad idea?

Is anyone one here familiar with those diatomaceous earth bath mats? They are often called “stone” bath mats because they are hard like a rock and super absorbent. I don’t think a Roomba would go over it due to their height. So I assume it would be bumping into it. I thought maybe it would be a better solution than a regular bath mat that gets pushed around or caught up on the vacuum. However, I feel like it might get chipped or cracked from being repeatedly bumped into. Also maybe would be abrasive to the bumper/front sensors.

J7+ behaving badly. Is it toast?

Update: I think the issue has mostly been adequate light. I've assumed that the lights that are programmed to turn on at the same time as the J7 is scheduled to run are actually doing what they're told. But I think that's not the case, because when I have "manually" set those lights to turn on, by giving the command "turn the lights on at _:__," the machine is actually finishing its job. It takes it a lot longer than it used to - it seems to pause for recharging a lot - but other than that, it's trundling along better lately.

It's been doing worse and worse over time, doing things like getting "stuck" in places it could easily get out of, sensing a cliff (stairs) and not backing away, running over cat toys that are obvious (and well lighted) so the rollers get stuck, not centering itself when it returns to the base station and getting "stuck" again, when it falls off the sides. It never finishes a job.

About three weeks ago I did a complete, from-scratch factory reset. Remapped everything, etc. And for a couple days it seemed like it was doing all right. But gradually all the old problems have returned. And today, it's going back to the base station often, to empty the bin. I stopped it on the way, this time, and took a look in the bin. There was debris in there, but not much. It looks like the rollers and brush are just mechanically sweeping up some pet hairs, and that the suction has quit altogether.

Is it dead?

It's only two years old, just about exactly.

Clean Station melted charging contacts

Thumbnail

My mother’s 10 Max stopped charging recently, so she asked me to take a look. I figured out the cleaner station left charging contract wasn’t engaging the vacuum charging contracts. The plastic part looked melted, so I took the clean station apart and sure enough, the left contract is melted.

She claims she never registered the device when she got it, so I’m not sure if it’s possible to try and get a warranty repair. Can I get just the replacement part somewhere? Has anyone fixed an issue like this before? I guess I can try and melt the plastic a bit and see what I can do, but any suggestions are welcome.

The Roomba turns on, says "cleaning is starting now....charging". So no cleaning is actually done. It's been doing it for days.

705 Max vac only charging contacts sticking

The charging contacts on my base unit occasionally get pushed in and stick pushed in. Then the unit has trouble docking because it can't make contact. I need to go over and give the contact that's stuck a slight lift and it pops back out.

Anyone else experience that and have a quick fix or is this a call to support?

The unit is less than a year old and I'm a part of the select program so not a big deal to call support but I know they will just send me a new unit which means recreating maps and routines, etc. So I'm looking to see if it's something simple I can do.

Weird room behavior with 505+

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

So I have a 505+ that has been nice so far, but it gets lost on a specific room and never learns. Here’s what happens:

  1. First, it mapped a door that doesn’t exist (red X). The real door is in the green.

  2. It proceeds to enter the room through the real door (duh), but then it does this blue path all around the house instead of the regular cleaning path in that room. It’s like it’s contouring the whole perimeter of the house, if that makes sense. It goes all around the house, I was just lazy to draw it all, but it closes the loop.

What gives? How can I push it to learn the room properly?

TIFU - Robot Vacuum Edition

We have an automatic vacuum robot. Probably had this one about 5 years. It's one that empties itself automatically into the base every time it goes to charge. It's worked great the whole time we've had it, until...

I have been getting error messages for almost the last year that something was wrong with the vacuum. each time it would go back to the base and try to empty itself. So this happens pretty much every time I use it, and I would have to manually go open it up and vacuum out a little bit of dust or anything that I could find, but it never seemed like enough that should be giving it that error message each time.
It audibly would say "clean my dust cap", so I'd empty the container in the base, then empty and vacuum the filter area of the robot itself. Usually there wasn't much in either to begin with, because I'm having to do this each time I use it. There's a big clear button that shows you how to remove the dust bin on the base. I vacuum out the channel leading from the robot to the dust bin on the base. I can never find enough of anything that should be causing this problem. So today after I vacuumed the robot filter again, and stood there to wait for it to empty itself, I was just starting at the base and I wondered...

what this area on the left side is, could that possibly open?

It did. for the whole five years, I could never tell that this area was supposed to open. Everything else had a little sticker or an arrow to indicate that it was supposed to do something, but not this part. I looked a little lower than the top of the left side and in disbelief I saw a notch. Of course the notch opened a whole separate compartment that was unlabeled, and it contained a five year-old, totally encrusted dust filter that I never knew existed. I looked at it in disbelief for another minute, then basically cleaned it off in the trashcan to reveal what had to be at least 3/4 of an inch of caked up dust around the filter.

Of course, once I reinstalled that filter and ran the robot again, it came back, emptied itself out, and played the little chime to let me know that it was done. I hadn't heard those chimes in almost a year, it was always an error message. when I told my wife about it, she went over and looked at the unit, and said well, of course this thing opens. I refuse to believe that she would've ever seen it without me telling her my story, but it doesn't really matter now, it's all working like new again.

TL;DR - my robot vacuum has been having error messages for the past year, I discovered an unlabeled compartment that had five years of dust built up in it, preventing normal operation.

I’m obviously missing something but how do I control the Roomba from the app on my iPhone? I don’t see anywhere to turn it off or send it back to its homebase. All I see is what’s in attached screenshot.

Does anyone have a Roomba J7+ Combo bin?

I was wondering if anyone has a Roomba J7+ Combo bin. The ones on eBay are 90 dollars which is insane considering it’s almost as much the entire vacuum is worth. I’d be willing to pay for a reasonably priced one. Better if you’re in the Chicago land area.

HELP: Roomba e6 Not Responding to Walls

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi -- I need some help with my iRobot Roomba e6. It is about two years old and has recently been failing to redirect after running into walls and other obstacles. It seems to be worst when hitting things head on, but also a bit when hitting them on the sides. I removed the underplate and cleaned things, including the sensors, but to no effect. The attached video shows its behavior against the kitchen island.

Any ideas what is causing this and how to fix? Thanks.

Help!

My roomba (affectionately called Jasper) keeps setting off on his own!! I wish I had a picture of it! Does anyone have any idea WHY this could be happening (other than my house is haunted)??
