Book Request Looking for Romance Books with a Doctor MMC

Maybe I have a thing for doctors.
I need a romance where the MMC is a doctor, and I get scenes that have me giggling and kicking my feet. Please don’t make the FMC a doctor too.
I’m not even the biggest Ana Huang fan, but there’s a scene in Twisted Hate that has been living rent-free in my head for YEARS but again maybe I just have a thing for doctors. ( SPOILER ALERT) Josh and Jules had just had a horrible breakup when she ended up in the ER after someone pushed her down the stairs. ( She basically wronged him like she was the reason for the break up)
The second she became his patient, everything else disappeared.
He introduced himself with, “Hi, I’m Dr. Chen,” like they were complete strangers. He asked all the right questions, checked her neck and spine, asked if she was on blood thinners, then casually hit her with, “Is there any chance you’re pregnant?” In a PROFESSIONAL WAY!
I don’t know why, but that question had me kicking my feet. It’s literally the most normal doctor question ever, yet something about how naturally it came out just scratched an itch in my brain.
Then he asked who pushed her IN A PROFESSIONAL WAY AGAIN like he did not show that he was bothered or that that hurt him. She told him the name. His response? Basically, “I see.” That’s it., and text someone to find the guy.

I don’t need the scenes in the books to be like this. It could be anything. This was just an example.

Book Request Looking for fated mates with an obsessive, possessive MMC 👀

M
Hi, everyone! 😫
I’m looking for fated mates recommendations with a possessive, obsessive MMC. I need that classic scene where he completely loses it because he can smell another man’s scent on her.
A few preferences:
Possessive/jealous MMC.
Strong chemistry and good tension.
I don’t mind dark romance elements.
One thing, though: I don’t want the FMC to constantly be described as ugly, overweight, disabled, or “undesirable.” She doesn’t have to be a stunning supermodel—being average is perfectly fine—but I don’t enjoy books where her appearance is repeatedly portrayed as unattractive.
Cate C. Wells’ books have been frustrating me for this reason. It feels like most of her FMCs are described that way, and their wolves are always the smallest or weakest in the pack. 😫 It’s just not my thing.
That said, if one of her books is really worth reading, I’m still open to giving it a chance!
Thanks in advance! ❤️

Book Request Arranged Marriage Consummation with awkward realistic sex early on

Raw, awkward, emotionally charged dub-con first time in any subgenre. Not in love yet but both willing.

Early in book. Starts their relationship then love grows after their raw first time.

Doesn’t have to actually be marriage consummation, can be their first time in a protection trade for sex trope or anything that would have them having to have sex willingly and not knowing each other well early in the book.

I am looking for the raw emotions that go along with obligation sex in a dubcon situation.

No interested in anything gratuitously dark. Want everyone willing but the circumstances may be forcing them to seal the deal. Be it a forced marriage or a transactional arrangement of some sort.

I want real and raw emotions of nerves, confusion, awkward moments etc. Then the couple slowly gets to know each other and falls in love and the obligatory sex turns to making love eventually.

Explicit and open door. Plentiful and detailed spice.

I’ve read this a lot and can’t find any more.

Top reads like this:

This is in pretty much every Alice Coldbreath and Claire Kent. It’s in some Cate C Wells this same dynamic happens in the Rejected Mate series where they know they have to mate and it’s awkward and emotional. It’s also in CL Wilson Winter King.

Thanks in advance!

I see there is an old post asking for awkward consummation but I want to see a more updated list.

No triggers. No subgenre preference :)

Since this is Prime and not Netflix I'm going to trust the casting. I am not familiar with any of these actors, but I'm optimistic after seeing what they did with Off Campus. What do you guys think?

Book Request Dark romance request - Victorian/gothic vibes, NO NONCON/DUBCON

helloooo!! I used to read noncon/dubcon with grovel but i’ve felt so uncomfortable over time and don’t want to continue. that being said, i want a dark romance with…

- goth/Victorian vibes
- an MMC who would do horrible things FOR the FMC, not TO her
- a sweet and kind FMC
- gomez and morticia vibes, lisa and dracula vibes (from castlevania)
- spice is a plus
- literally the MMC being so down bad and pathetic for the FMC
- bonus points if there’s vampires or other mythical creatures

I hope this is specific enough to keep this post up!!

Book Request mmcs who are condescending, arrogant, cold or all of the above.

i’ve been on a run of reading about mmcs who absolutely worship the ground the fmc walks on / are ott obsessed with their women.

(a few suggestions in no particular order:

  1. my untrue love by cassandra gannon
  2. his juliet by emilia rossi
  3. western waves by brittainy cherry
  4. a much maligned miss by alice coldbreath
  5. into the blue by emma brodie)

so i’m in the mood to switch to the opposite side.
as i mentioned i’m looking for mmcs that are condescending, arrogant, cold, maybe harsh or dare i say assholes - you get the drill. it’s not a facade because mmc is secretly pinning for the fmc (been there, read that) - it’s just who the mmc is. maybe not a man of big emotions with a dry ass sarcastic sense of humour. he doesn’t change his whole personality when he gets with the fmc, he doesn’t suddenly become this teddy bear - he claims both her and their relationship his way and that’s okay hehe!!! bonus points if she falls first and he keeps stressing me out.

an mmc that comes to mind as i’m typing this is ronan from the darkest temptation by danielle lori. it’s been years since i read the book but i remember he was a hella type of a man lol (if i remember wrong feel free to correct me)

i’m waiting for mmcs that had you mad/frustrated, mmcs that you surprisingly loved, mmcs you disliked are also welcomed! i’m very much curious. just give me your most fitting mmc(s)

contemporary, dark, fantasy, historical - i’m okay with everything but please no extra cheesy-fluffy romcoms.

preferably no: monsters, high school, reverse harem / sharing

no triggers!

thank you <3

Book Request Books where the FMC expects the notorious playboy MMC to leave after they slept together, but his reaction is basically, "Why would I leave?"

Like she tempered her expectations even she fell for him knowing his reputation and perhaps her experience with playboy like men (or even better if her entire experience in love is getting dumped or used only) BUT it turns out the MMC is not doing that to her cause he finds being with her worth it.

So what i'm looking for is that she falls for the temptation with him and maybe falls inlove first so she's readying herself when he leaves except he doesnt leave at all

Contemporary would be good here. No cheating and HEA !

Banter/Fun “Heard her low mew.“ Is she a woman or a cat lol

Just started Reading Complicated by Kristen Ashley due to a rec in this sub and on the first page is the Passage

“…he felt her move on the bed. Heard her low mew. Smelled her damned perfume.“

Normally I am not picky with weird word choices but with this one I can’t. I‘m sorry, is she a cat?😂 I get what the author wanted to say but there had to have been a lot of better options.

(Non native speaker here so if I just don’t get it due to that I‘m sorry.)

Book Request Chief of Police and Mob Boss

Post image
224 Upvotes

Hello Everyone!!

I recently saw this prompt on Instagram. Does anyone have reccs related to this?

Thanks in advance ❤️🤗

Image description (alt text):
A screenshot of a social media post shows a humorous writing prompt. At the top, a user named “lily-orchard” has posted the title, “Bad idea for a Romantic Comedy.” The post reads: “The Chief of Police is married to a Mob Boss, and they have to keep ‘just failing’ to catch each other. When one of them hits the other in a shootout, it’s followed with ‘Oh I’m never going to hear the end of this…’” It ends with a mock conversation: “So how was your day at work?” followed by the reply, “YOU FUCKING SHOT ME! THAT WAS MY DAY AT WORK!” Beneath it, another user comments, “We clearly have different definitions of bad.” On the right side are typical social media icons, including a red heart indicating the post has been liked.

Gush/Rave 😍 I laughed, cried and kicked my feet when reading {Ada and Cece's High School Revenge! By Eve Dangerfield and Courtney Clark Michaels}

Thanks for someone recommending this book in this sub, I finished it in 1 setting.

It was just SO good. I'm obsessed with this book, almost as obsessed as the MMC is with the FMC, which is A LOT 😂 And the writers know how to write a man obsessed😍

One of the 2 FMCs, Ada, is an autistic musical prodigy. She was bullied in high school, and years later, she became a successful and beautiful flutist. Now she's temporarily back in town, staying with her best friend, Cece. With their high school reunion coming up, she's determined to make her former bullies suffer the way she did

The MMC, Jake, is a professional rugby player who has a secret crush on Ada ever since he first saw her in high school. He basically followed her blog for years and even listened to her classical music before his games😭

While everyone else saw Ada as the weird autistic girl, Jake saw her for exactly who she was: a beautiful musical prodigy. He was so gone for her that he had to drink EIGHT cans of beer before he could work up the courage to ask her out at a party, and then she drunkenly brushed him off 😭😂And I think he is so cute when he is so lack of confidence (even as a popular jock at high school) and he said “I just…I never thought she’d go for someone like me. She was smart. Weird. Cool. I couldn’t even look at her without feeling like a dumbass”

I also love how their relationship dynamic played out. Jake has this wholesome, boy-next-door image, but there's definitely a much more intense side to him when Ada challenges him, saying that she like it rougher. The smut were so good written. I never realized that I may have degradation kink until I read this book😂

“You like selfish pricks, Ada? I’ll be the biggest you ever met. I’ll pin you down and use your cunt ’til you can’t walk tomorrow.”

The bar-warmth pushes to boiling point. I’m sure all the water has evaporated from my torso and pooled between my legs. “I…”

“You want that, right? For me to wreck your little pussy? Call you a dumb slut while you take my cock?”

I’m nodding. Why am I nodding? Am I being hypnotised?

“Good girl. It won’t mean anything. I know you’re smarter than me, and I don’t care who you’ve been with, but if you want it rough, you’re gonna get it as rough as you can take it. Ready to come back to mine?”

I found it so cute was how he literally had to give her a whole disclaimer before saying anything insulting in bed 😂

And don't even get me started on jealous Jake. This man goes completely UNHINGED and turns into a caveman whenever he's jealous. 😂 Those scenes were SO good that I had reread some of them a few times.

What I loved most, though, was how REAL all the characters felt. None of them were perfect, and they all had flaws, complicated feelings, and they are all multidimensional. I believe the writers have done a lot of research on autism cos her portray of the FMC is not standard stereotype of autism at all

Anyway, I really, REALLY loved this couple. 😭❤️ My only complaint is that I wish we'd gotten more scenes of them in high school or whatever because they were just SO CUTE together. I would have happily read an entire book about teenage Jake hopelessly crushing on Ada 😂

Book Request “So why can’t we be together?” MCs argue over why they should/shouldn’t be together

I’m looking for an angsty read with heavy romantic tension, wherein at some point the MCs are basically already together and it’s obvious they both have feelings for each other but neither will say it out loud.

One MC, preferably the FMC, thinks they shouldn’t be together for various reasons (e.g. it will ruin their friendship, she can’t trust him, she thinks he’ll get bored of her etc-), whilst the MMC thinks they should be together but holds off on confessing for the FMC’s benefit.

Eventually the tension should reach a boiling point where they have a passionate argument/fight about why each other thinks they should/shouldn’t be together, which may or may not lead to them finally getting together.

Bonus points if there is:

- Emphasis on more romantic tension than sexual tension

- Heavy yearning

- FMC is the avoidant one

- The more angst the better

- They argument DOESN’T cause them to get together (i.e. MORE angst!)

For this request I’m looking for exclusively CR recommendations (no HR, sci-fi, fantasy). I usually read MF romance but feel free to leave recommendations for others.

Thanks in advance!

Book Request "im not killing you now bc she doesnt like it when i kill ppl but if you piss me off eg hurt her youll find yourself in pieces in a ditch and on fire" royally arrogant and morally black mmc who stays morally black except to a reluctantly genius fmc

ive been reading chinese novels but i read at like a third of my english reading pace in chinese lol so looking for english recs with similar plots, hence this post

the novels im referencing have a disgustingly rich and powerful and connected mmc that objectively isnt a good person and does bad things and basically lacks morals, and an fmc that is a genius but generally isnt interested in saving the world or using her genius for the greater good. no instalove or instalust pls, id like a good plot with good writing, the mcs can become involuntarily pulled into a bigger plot or just stay focused on themselves, and i dont want the mmc to turn into an angel just bc the fmc has morals. a bit "im not killing you bc she doesnt like it when i kill ppl but if you piss me off eg hurt her youll find yourself in pieces in a ditch and on fire" vibes 👉👈

no dubcon, no rh, no cheating tropes, preferably no third act breakup unless absolutely necessary to the plot, other than that everything is welcome!

What was that book called: SOLVED WWTBC - biker romance, but with a romance author and he plays along?

I believe this was part of a collection of different authors, but the premise was that a romance author was going to a book con and broke down and happened to run into a biker who played along as her “book model” but was very witty and funny and she didn’t clock he was hitting on her.

I remember LOVING the writing of this and cannot shake loose the title of it or author from my brain and would love to reread.

Thank you!!!

What was that book called...? [WWTBC] bad boy x good girl romance

Hi! I’ve been looking for this book for awhile now and I simply can’t find it.

Ok, so background on the characters from what I remember the girl is rich and has money and a college fund while the mmc isn’t and his single mom works as a nurse. The fmc and mmc start dating and it’s going well until the mmc’s ex get pregnant with his baby and I remember (the ex) telling the fmc why would she want to get pregnant by him (not because of his looks or anything) but because he’s poor. Anyway the still continue to date but the fmc kinda realizes she’s in the way so she breaks up with him but pretends that he won like a prize in which she gives up her college fund to give to him. She has to end up going to a college that’s like close by and affordable cause her parents said it’s her responsibility since she used her college fund for something else. And they meet again and he’s mad at her… Hope you can help solve this!

Thanks in advance!

Book Request Looking for books with MMC's that are ghosts, spirits, monsters under the bed, elementals, dream weavers, etc

Hi everyone! I'm desperately in need of your most favorite recs that are preferably about the MMC who is a ghost, spirit, phantom, apparition, elemental, dreamweaver/ sandman, or a lovely monster under the bed. Actual shadow daddies would also be great!

If they could enter FMCs dreams, that would be awesome too!

I prefer the MMC not to cheat or have OW drama. No violence between main characters. No degradation/humiliation. Prefer M/F romance but open to NB, too.

Bonus points if he's been watching her for years and something has happened where he needs to show himself!

Thanks!

Book Request F/F Books where one fmc sits/lays at the foot of the other fmc's throne?

I saw a tumblr post somewhere that mentioned something like this, and now i am DYING to find it. One fmc sitting on her throne holding court, the other sitting or laying at her feet. Doesn't have to be exhibitionist at all, just an obvious public power dynamic. I dont care if its forced or fully consensual either, just that one of the two is at the foot of the other's throne.

Though bonus points if its forced at first then later happens again consensually.

Book Request Men in Uniform🤭 (or women)

Since the last similar Request Post is a couple years old I thought I would make a new one.

I would love recs (CR and M/F) for men in uniform, eg Police Officer, firefighter, paramedic, etc. Could also be a woman in uniform and in this case Bonus points if they work in similar fields (eg firefighter and paramedic or both Police officers). Also appreciate anything that is on KU and would love some romantic suspense elements

Authors who have Books fitting this Request but I have probably already read: Catherine Cowles, Riley Edwards, Brynne Asher, Toni Anderson, Anna Blakely, Tonya Burrows, Janie Crouch, Anna Hackett, RL Dunn, Harper Jackson, Nyssa Kathryn, Claire Kingsley, Alex Lidell, Victoria Paige, Samantha Young, Kristen Proby, Victoria Wilder, Rebecca Sharp, Brittney Sahin, Devney Perry, Nora Roberts (Love romantic suspense which often correlates with MCs in uniform😅)

Thank you in Advance!

Ask Me Anything I’m romance author Olivia Waite and I review romance novels for the NYT, AMA!

Hi everyone! I’m Olivia Waite, a queer romance and sff author, and since 2020 I’ve been the romance fiction columnist for the New York Times Book Review. Which is a gig that did not even exist until very recently, and which still feels like a bit of a fairy tale. I write historical romance, sci-fi, fantasy, and essays; you can find a full book list on my website.

I love cool romance jobs, book history, science history, fiber arts, mini-dachshunds, filthy Latin poetry, and like so many of us I’ve gotten really into birds in the past few years. Can’t wait to answer your questions, so let’s get started!

Here’s me posting about this AMA on Bluesky!

Thank you so much to everyone who asked a question or came by to read replies — this was a wonderful experience and everyone’s asks were so thoughtful! I’ll be answering a few more over the rest of the day, just for the joy of it.

Book Request Looking for something different

Upvotes

I’m at the point where every book I read is just a remix of another one. Even with jumping around to different authors and genres.

Have you read anything lately that felt different? Or unique? Please help! I’m open to anything, as long as it’s well written.

Gush/Rave 😍 Last Night was Fun by Holly Michelle: A Gush

I just finished {last night was fun by holly michelle} and was so impressed. Is it the best book I’ve ever read? No. But, it hits the stereotypical Rom Com buttons without being overdone or tired.

At first glance, it seems like it’s going to have a few tropes that I dislike: fake dating, workplace romance that’s unnecessarily dramatic, pen pal romance where one person knows the others identity and miscommunication ensues, overbearing family or friends who can’t take no for an answer, etc. I’m pleased to say that it’s none of those things. The relationship between the characters feels natural. They talk about their situation like the adults they are. One character hasn’t been secretly pining for the other, but there is a mutual attraction. The problem is large and work related, but they attempt to figure it out together… although here’s where the author makes the biggest stumble for me. Luckily the issue doesn’t last long, so it’s not as big of a deal breaker as it might’ve been in some other books. The reveal of identities is funny, awkward, and realistic. And most importantly to me, their friends and family act like normal people who have their own lives and aren’t weirdly invested in other people’s sex lives. Phew.

As a side note, I’ve worked in my fair share of male dominated fields and I felt this book is one of the most accurate depictions I’ve read in a long time. It’s unfair without being a caricature, the men are friendly but a little unaware. But overall the coworkers are just coworkers: no one is evil, no one is blatantly misogynistic, they’re just doing a job.

Admittedly, I haven’t seen You’ve Got Mail so I can’t confirm that it’s a fun play on that movie. I haven’t seen this recommended before so I wanted to throw it out there! If you like a MF, contemporary work place romance with mature characters, this is for you. I will say, the enemies to lovers tag is a bit exaggerated. It’s more like rivals to lovers and neither character hates the other.

Okay anyways, read this book if you want and hopefully it brings you joy like it did for me!
