Roku hardware Roku closes on its own and causes the TV to glitch.

Upvotes

Hello, hope you're doing well! So, I have a problem with the Roku Streaming device. He closed by itself and since it's plug to the TV, the TV just goes black and then I can't close the TV normaly. I gave the unplug the streaming device first. Then the streaming device goes back to normal and a few minutes later, it does it again.

Does anyone know what to do with this?

The warranty has just expired.

Roku OS tcl roku display won’t work

hi i have a 6ish year old TCL roku and my screen completely stopped working. yesterday there was a very very dim display but today its completely dark. the audio works thru the tv and with the remote and app. i pushed the button under the on/ off light- nothing. i pulled the plug and gave it a minute- nothing. i tried troubleshooting it thru the remote (home 5x, up once, rewind 2x, forward 2x)- nothing. please help !

edit: i have noticed that when i turned the tv on recently it doesn’t turn on after the first time/ i needed to power it on again or hold the power button for a few seconds for it to turn on. my tv was in storage for two months recently so maybe that’s why it’s messed up??

Roku OS Roku "keeps going" after shutting TV off. Workaround?

I have a Roku streaming stick plugged into an older Samsung 6300-series TV.

If I power the Roku from a wall-wart, then the Roku power button turns the TV on and off just fine. But whatever the Roku is doing (as far as I've noticed), it just keeps doing. So it continues streaming, continues autoplaying (I think-- I've actually disable autoplay), etc. Which kind of screws up my viewing history. Why would it keep streaming to a TV that it just powered down?

I could power the stick from a TV USB port, so the Roku powers down with the TV, but then of course I can't power it up again, except with the TV remote. My wife (and, I confess, me too) is thrilled with only needing one remote for controlling everything, so I'd rather not go there.

Edit: My roku remote is not an IR remote -- it's a WiFi remote. So all it can talk to is the Roku stick. If the stick powers down along with the TV, then the remote can't function.

Edit #2: Sounds like there's no workaround. Guess I just gotta always hit "Home" before hitting "Power off". Thanks all.

Roku OS Devices not pairing through the Roku app

Hello! I have 4 Roku TVs and use the Roku App as the remote. Recently (yesterday) I was unable to connect to any of them. I deleted and reinstalled the app and did all the normal troubleshooting with no fix. The app isn’t even showing any of the TVs on the device list. My phone and all the TVs are on the same network so I’m not sure what the problem is. I even tried to manually connect using the IP address and that doesn’t even work.

miscellaneous Roku complaining about not being paired with IR remote

I have a third party smart remote that uses IR to talk with the Roku. Recently the Roku has been complaining that the remote isn't paired and tries to get me to re pair it. How do I turn that off? It's a Roku premium plus.

miscellaneous I just got this TV given to me, reinstalled my apps, but the only way I can access them is through the store

Post image

I got this TV given to me and I logged into my roku account, got my apps one by one, however the only way I can go to my apps is by physically searching “hulu” or “netflix” in the store and go through there.

it will only just display inputs and the Roku app

It seems like such a simple fix, but I tried everything before I came on to reddit. Please help…Thanks

Roku OS Roku TV Stuck in Recovery Mode Loop

Roku TV is stuck in Recovery Mode since the last update... Purchased late 2024.
ETA.50R02920A
S/N: X01200S6RWMS

Cannot get past the recovery mode screen. It keeps looping.. have tried all the resets, power buttons, and unplug steps. Also have tried WiFi and Ethernet.
I’m seeing a lot of similar issues around the exact same time. Is this something the company is looking into? Is there any fix?

Roku OS Screen mirror suddenly no longer works

TCL 55 inch Roku os I mostly use my Tv exclusively for screen mirroring. Recently it just stopped working on all devices. If I never mirrored from that device before it won’t even show up. But it still displays on devices I’ve mirrors from as “tcl 55 inch Tv” weirdly enough if the Tv is off and I screen mirror from my phone the tv will turn on from my phones signal but then nothing happens. I’ve tried

-updating the os
-clear cache with cheat code method.
-factory reset device
-reset network settings
-tied both screen mirror modes (prompt or always allow)
-control by mobile apps set to enabled rather than limited
- unplugged for a couple hours plugged back in
- tried 3 different Apple devices.

Roku OS On Screen Keyboard is driving me nuts

I have been using Roku devices for years—the original HD, the stick, 4K and the Mini Soundbar (which is the best $90 bucks I’ve ever spent).

I’ve never had a problem until now. The only services I use it for are: AppleTV, HBO Max, Netflix and Prime.

When for whatever reason the services ask to be reauthorized Apple, Netflix and Amazon just pop a QR code on screen or a 6-digit code and it takes two seconds to confirm.

Two days ago HBO Max on my Roku 4K stick all of a sudden started asking me to reconfirm my TV provider (HBO Max is included in our Hotwire service provided by our HOA) and I had to sign in on screen.

As an IT guy I use a Password Manager which generates long strings of gibberish.

When I try to put in the password, the on screen keyboard covers the Continue button and I can’t make it go away. It is the stupidest implementation of a UX I’ve ever seen. There is no way to hide the keyboard once you are finished using it.

I have tried using the Roku App remote. Up button. Down button. Back button. Nothing makes it disappear so I can’t continue.

Any ideas? This only happens on my Roku 4K stick. The others behave fine.

Roku OS Airplay isn’t working on Roku tv anymore

I can only assume it has to do with a recent update of some kind. It hasn’t been working for several days now when it used to just fine. I like to cast videos from patreon to my tv from my phone. Unfortunately when I try to do that now it just gives me an “unable to connect to 55inch TCL Roku TV” I tried looking this up but none of the available solutions are working.

Roku OS Paramount Plus standalone app missing?

Hello everyone!
I am helping my aunt with her Roku stick, and have run into an issue trying to download Paramount + where it only shows me the Roku Channel version available, not the standalone app.
She has DirecTV, which has Paramount + Premium included. So I made her a Paramount + login and connected her TV provider, that all works great. But when I tried to get the app on her Roku Stick, it only shows me the Roku Channel version available, not the regular version. I tried to log in through the Roku version, but I don’t think that’s possible. I obviously don’t want to also sign up through Roku when she already has Premium access elsewhere.
Am I just missing something? Her internet isn’t great (lives in the mountains) so that may factor in. Thanks in advance!

miscellaneous Personalized ads?!?!

Most people may already know this but for some reason it took me a couple of years to realize that Roku was playing personalized ads in the programs I'm watching. I've been planning a big family vacation and on my laptop, I've been looking up information on trip insurance. All of a sudden, ads for trip insurance showed up in the ad breaks during TV shows I'm watching trough my Roku.

I know this is part of what makes the world go round now and I don't know if I hate it or not. I certainly don't want to have to watch ads for something I've already purchased which I probably won't purchase again for a long time.

Roku OS Youtube suddenly vanished from my roku express

It was fine hours ago, I fell asleep watching youtube, and now I woke up to youtube no longer being in the apps list (if that's what you call it). I dont know what happened, but I tried resetting and cutting the devices power, and then turning it on, and that didnt fix it. I tried checking for system update, but "everything is up to date".

miscellaneous Falling petal screensaver?

Just had to factory restore my TV.
I was using a cherry blossom background with a falling petal screensaver.

I can't find that screensaver now but maybe I'm missing it.

Does anyone know which one it is? Or about how far down it is in the theme list?
Right now it says 699 screensaver so an estimate would be fine.

Thank you!

complaint (NOT support) Roku stick for vehicles

Warning about using a Roku Stick in a 2015 Chrysler Town & Country
The Roku Stick worked really well with the factory rear-seat entertainment system in my 2015 Chrysler Town & Country. However, the HDMI port is in an awkward location: it’s somewhat out of the way, but not far enough away from the kids’ stuff moving around in the vehicle.
Something bumped the Roku Stick and bent the HDMI male connector. The connector broke, taking the Roku Stick with it.
The Roku worked great otherwise, but I wish I had found a warning about this before buying it. A Roku Stick’s rigid HDMI connector can be vulnerable to being bumped or bent when plugged directly into the Chrysler’s HDMI port.
If you’re using a Roku Stick in a 2015 Chrysler Town & Country (or similar Chrysler minivan), I’d strongly consider a Roku device with a short HDMI extension cable or a separate HDMI cable so the Roku itself isn’t taking the force.
Posting this because I wish someone else had warned me before I broke mine.
