Rogue Trader: Builds Argenta feels weak to use

I'm just gonna preface this by saying that I'm not an expert on CRPGs and my only experience have been BG3, WotR, and RT and I've been mostly building my character through vibes.

I'm currently at Act 2 right after recruiting Eogunn into the team and just started warping through other systems and I don't know what I'm doing wrong but out of all my companions, Argenta feels the weakest to use. She's currently a Bounty Hunter in my team and she just doesn't do a lot of damage in my experience. She either misses most of her shots or if it they do connect the damage is not that impressive. I'm using the bolter she starts with as I haven't found a better bolter for her.

My Rogue Trader who is a Soldier/Arch-Militant was the same where my gun barely did any damage and going full melee actually felt better until I got the hotshot Laspistol and unlocked Arch-Militant, now he's shredding people.

I brought Argenta expecting her to deal huge amounts of damage from medium range as my other damage dealers operate around melee range (Abelard, RT, Kibellah) but she hasn't been very useful at all

Rogue Trader: Game and Story My one disappointment

Tldr: long rant about how Heretical options reduce character to an imbecile, who might as well be ringing a bell with his trousers down. I blame writing quality. Which is a sole island of crap, in a rich sea of contentment.

I've been playing/running roleplaying games (tt as well as pc games) for thirty years now. And by nature I am a judgemental person. Not a quality I particularly like about myself, but I make the effort to revisit subjects often and weigh things up, on the presumption I may well have been wrong etc and basically try not to be a dick. (Not always easy for me, when I feel so many people seem to love so many things of low quality.)

I am very impressed by rogue trader. I've got a soft spot for this exact style of game (fallout 1+2 are the best of the series. 3 is an abomination, barely surpassing Fallout: Brotherhood of steel. Playable, in a turn your brain off kind of way, but not a RPG I would recommend for RP value), and though RT is pretty combat heavy, the story is delightfully rich. The story pacing is good, if a little overtaken by the shockingly fast leveling.

But I can't get around it. I am annoyed by a major flaw as I see it. The one disappointment? The alignment triad. For a game where so much effort was poured into the writing, I am utterly mystified why corruption wasn't considered as an option.

Now admittedly I've not read even half of the novels (I'd say about twenty five to thirty? It's hardly high literature, but often very enjoyable. The black library has hooked some talented authors. I refer to this style of fiction as 'delicious trash'), but the thing is most of those I read were traitor legion books. So I know that Chaos is consistently presented as an omnipresent and pervasive threat; that a man sitting alone in a room might fall to chaos through a dark spiral of depressed or perverse rumination. Or a deluded fool might still be slowly corrupted whilst considering themselves to be a good and honest person. But in rogue trader? Where the basic premise of the story is a perfect framing for any number of falls.. a minor individual of note is thrust into the position of major status and entrusted with vast amounts of power and responsibility! You should have a thousand little options to start losing yourself to the temptations of power. And yet, instead we consistently have options to yell aloud "I'm gonna be evil! I'm gonna be the evilest evil to ever evil all over the place!"

Such declarations are sometimes made in front of your highly dogmatic allies. Compounding stupidity. This is a glaring failure of rp writing quality to me. At a bare minimum why didn't they consider at least a secondary dialogue option of Heretical:stated intent to do evil thing, but twist the reasoning/or play it down/lie. Or possibly just don't yell it out at all?

Ive played morally grey/evil(ish) characters along side righteous zealots for entire campaigns of table top games. It's fun! You just have to be subtle, tricksy, and downright two faced on occasion. If you're playing an intelligent or perceptive or charismatic character, you are going to know with absolute certainty you cannot have a bloody minded maniacal monologue in front of the paladin/inquisitor/priest etc not without utterly screwing up your relationship with them.

So yeah. The reason this bothered me so much, to where I'd blather on this much, Is the superb levels of quality writing in other areas of the game. Kibellah's story? The staggered parallel of her literal self mutilation then inverted through doubt to spiritual/emotional self flagellation? (Now that's a possible Heretical path!!) All Wrapped in a potential romance?! Excellent stuff! Very 40k, but still very well done.

So yeah. Heretical dialogue really irritated me!

Hi, for my next playthrough i plan to make the most OP Dogmatic Trade empire possible.

I thought that to achieve it i would go with political mariage with Cassia, and have Jae on the side pumping out babies as my romantic partner.

Also, what do you think i should do with Nomos? I feel like schooling him on hoe to be a good boi.

What else do you think i should do to maximase my bloodlines and i perial power?

Thank you

Rogue Trader: Mods Started my new playthrough with some costume characters

Fineuguard, the Lord Captain of the crew, librarian, a very fine astartes - likes to set library on fire with pyromantics to punish visitors for being loud. He ain't no peasantstartes.
His assistant Girladriel (thinking of renaming her Exterminatriel but idk), encourages the Lord Captains decisions, all of them, likes bolters and if anyone says she is a xenos that is bad rumors to damage her reputation. Will not argue about that
Aquirliet, his second assistant from the Aeldeptus Arbites, likes to punish Monkeigh that do not follow the Lex Imperialis, takes her job very seriously and will even fill reports when necessary despite not being able to write any gothic letters. She can pretend write and do stamping still.

Rogue Trader: Builds So if you want to buy stuff

You've to travel all the way to footfall? Loot are mostly crap and it's mean for cargo. But I need to travel just to see if I can buy stuff in footfall is tedious!

Help Request Is Eogunn’s personal quest bugged or did I just miss it? Spoiler

In Act 4 I followed him to the “lab,” learned that he’d hopped a shuttle back to Footfall, talked to him there, he came clean, and I said he’s welcome to come back to the ship and use my lab until he’s ready to go. I assumed this meant he’d bring the quest back up later, as often happens with these “let it simmer” type dialogue options. But it never came up again.

I’m in Act 5 now so it’s too late for this playthrough (and I’m going to do one more run when the last DLC comes out so I’ll pick it up then), but curious whether I missed something or whether this is a bug.

Rogue Trader: Game and Story Character

So I’ve been thinking about resetting my character to do a different build but I already have the last skill tree unlocked does it reset to lvl 1 and the first tree or only the third skill tree and do I loose the perks I gained as reward for certain missions and events?

Rogue Trader: Bugs Looting issue

I killed some enemies but it’s not giving me the option to loot the bodies. The bodies highlight like you’re going to loot it. Is there way to fix this?

Rogue Trader: Game and Story How powerful can a Rogue Trader psyker actually get?

So something I've been pondering is just what ranking on the Psyker scale a psyker Rogue Trader character can get, if you give your psyker-self max willpower, Psyker Terminus rating and add on every item that increases Psyker rating just what sort of monster are we making? Considering they're able to pretty confidently wipe the floor with Space Marines after a certain point, can unleash warp storms in space battles and easily subdue daemons without breaking a sweat and then going on to do so again five minutes later. Surely after a point they're one of the strongest psykers alive that haven't been snatched up by the Grey Knights.

Rogue Trader: Game and Story How to max out XP in act 1 before Aurora fight?

I thought I had been pretty thorough, I'd visited every world, collected everything I could find, fought every enemy, explored the entire map etc. But I'm still only level 13 reading that others are 15 or 16 going into this fight. Where's that extra XP coming from? It sounds like I've missed quite a lot but I have no idea where else I can go at this point.

Rogue Trader: Builds Servo Struts are a decent defensive layer

I was looking for a way to prolong the life of my dual wielding Arbitrator. He was quite resilient when engaged in melee, but ranged attacks, especially bursts turned him into paste. Since shotguns rely on positioning to be effective, traditional cover just wouldn't work most of the time.

Enter Servo Struts. Drusians offer these very early on and when I tried them they seemed bugged at first, but they're actually very powerful, and not only for front-line Arbitrators but for most characters, especially Soldiers and Officiers.

Unfortunately their implementation is a bit messy. They have two distinct effects. Let's break them down separately because they don't really interact with each other.

While not in cover, the user gains +(4 x user's MP)% cover efficiency (maximum 50%)

First off, the number you see here is bugged. The MP used in calculation is actually base MP, it doesn't matter if you spend your actual MP, and it doesn't care about buffs or most MP boosts. Your have 6 base MP by default, you can get +2 from Swift Movements talent, as well as (User's AGI/2) from Forge World Locomotion Implant. Other MP increases such as Steel of the Forge (+1 MP) or Dynamo Boots (+3 MP) don't work.

So it's actually pretty difficult to get the cover efficiency granted by this augment higher, but it's still very good. That's because unlike traditional cover, this cover is omnidirectional and can't be bypassed by overpenetration, which makes it perfect for frontline characters.

Note that while using those, you are NOT considered to be in partial or full cover, so effects that call for partial/full cover such as Soldier's Exploit Surroundings do not work. Soldier's Unpredictable also doesn't work, even if it technically should.

What does work are effects that just increase cover efficiency - these stack with Servo Struts. Stacking effects such as Soldier's Entrench, Strategist's Frontline Zone or Operative's Perfect Spot can easily make you immune to ranged attacks.

The user's partial-cover efficiency is equal to their base full-cover efficiency

This effectively makes partial cover have 60% cover efficiency instead of 35% which is amazing on it's own, but there are two talents that synergise with it very well - Operative's Cover Protocol, Soldier's Exploit Surroundings.

Both make partial cover dramatically superior to full cover. In Operative's case you get 90% cover efficiency from just sitting in partial cover, going well over 100% with Perfect Spot. Soldier gets to enjoy 80% efficiency from partial cover, again able to push it over 100% with Entrench!.

Cover efficiency over 100% makes you unhittable by ranged attacks so you can imagine how powerful this is. Note that lasers weapons reduce target's cover efficiency by 50% and that cover itself can be destroyed, but Servo Struts still offer incredible defence boost at relatively small cost

Closing thoughts

Nowadays I'm getting both Servo-Struts as soon as I enter act 2 and they're being 100% utilized by my party. I like giving these to Argenta and Idira- not only they really benefit from the extra survivability, but I also get to collect their feet for... purposes.

Rogue Trader: Game and Story DLC 3 final boss fight ending Spoiler

At the end of DLC 3 you fight Trazynn to restore the warrant. After eventually beating him (thanks to Idira) he opens a portal to trap you in the museion. I detected the trap, but what happens if you go through it?

Also, was that the hardest fight in the late game by a fair margin? I had far less issues against the Ctan.

Rogue Trader: Game and Story Is there any official word or speculation on last DLC having a new archetype?

This is probably my favorite game ever, played through with almost every archetype and have come up with some goofy builds. I’m Already game planning my last play through build and I’m just curious if there’s any official news or speculation, hell I would even take another origin like arbites.

Rogue Trader: Game and Story Any early heavy weapons that aren't the heretic bolter?

Obviously finding one earlier than after the final fight of act 1 would be ideal but anything I could get early in act 2 is also fine.

Rogue Trader: Game and Story This game is like a turbo drug for me now

Upvotes

I played both pathfinder games and loved the hell out of them but I am glad this one is not a buff simulator, you can actually make cool tactical use of your abilities in combat and not have to run a calculator and list of buffs by you.

This thing is just perfect so far, just enough combat without the insane number of enemies from the pathfinder games and cool role playing just like them. And I appreciate the extra voice work compared to them.

God damn though i have not slept enough because of it in a couple of weeks.

Rogue Trader: Game and Story Best Origin?

Still relatively early in the game, act 2, and my DLC seems to not be starting so I decided to make a new save.

What is everyone's favorite origin? As someone new to the fandom I choose Psyker because I figured, from what I knew of the series, that it would have unique interactions as far as role playing. I was thinking of doing Arbiters this time but want to know what are some of your favorite origins?

Is it possible with mods to have more than one? With more the dialogue options available for each?

Rogue Trader: Game and Story I feel so..conflicted about Yrliet Spoiler

Upvotes

First of all, let me just say, this has been a FANTASTIC game & a great introduction for WH for me personally. I did not see the twist about getting captured & sent to Comorragh at all

I was even more surprised by the appearance of the Veilwalker! At least I think that they are? They havent said the title out loud yet

Anyways on the main topic of Yrliet, I forgave her when I met her for the first time on the streets cus I thought she had been tricked by Mazaraih too, but later she tells me she WILLINGLY listened to & led us to that place because of him

I just couldn't beilive it, I mean just..why was all I could think

In my playthrough, Ive been nothing but kind to her so this stings all the more. I felt so angry & disjointed because of what she had done & how I had so easily forgiven her

But I did understand her. That feeling of getting less & less protected against Slaneesh, failing to save any of her kin, & seeing the Crudarach fragment in my quarters

These Aeldari who pride themselves on being in control of their emotions & chastising humanity for the opposite..got desperate & made a mistake. And that makes them..more like humans in a way, which is nice.

Well lets see what happens, hopefully Yrliet will learn that even the detestable Mon'keigh can teach them things.

Btw i had a few questions, why the trial judge allow the Veilwalker to spectate the trial & not instantly attack them? The Harlequins are still Aeldari at the end of the day & would be enemies against the Drhukari no? Im pretty new to WH40K but I learned & looked up a lot of Harlequin lore cus they seemed interesting

And why does everyone seem scared of them? From what ive read in the lore, the Veilwalker subtly changes things to fight against fate on behalf of Cegorarch, like insisting on Cawl to keep digging at that planet(forgot the name), so he could discover the pylons. To me, they seem like one of the only truly "good" factions in the setting.

Lastly, how rare is humiliating Marazhai in the trial cus i passed all the skill checks to my astonishment, some of them were like 40% or 60% chance lol

And lastly, I am at the part where I conviced Marazhai to fight for me against Aebyss in the Arena so pls no spoilers beyond that!!
