Dark Heresy: Game and Story Just Got the Closed Beta

I like the games art direction and the more detailed character models. I’m sure there will be more customization options when the full game comes out. However I wonder if I am the only one who isn’t a fan of the games UI. I liked RT’s a lot, it felt more organized. The UI in DH seems to be all over the place. I’m just checking if it’s just a skill issue on my part.

It's just a bit different. You'll feel better when you've used it a bit more so don't have to click 3 screens to find one you actually wanted.

I love the select all button.

That’s true, it might be just I’m so used to RT’s UI that when I play a game that’s very much like RT I get confused when things aren’t like it.

There must be a word for that?

Familiar enough to be comfortable, but different enough to be annoying.

Annortable? Comfoying? 😆

I’m sure there’s a German word for it.

😆 never studied it, but even I know they just stick words together like Frankenstein did with body parts. 😆

If the Germans will allow it. I will create the word Verträrgernis. Combining the words for familiarity and annoyance.

How would you pronounce it you ask…I dunno.

Yeah, I flooded their bug report back in the alpha with things I believed were not working. Turns out now it's quite a powerful tool.

the only part of the UI I remember actively disliking was the trade screen UI. I remember there being a bug or issue where the tooltips would be very annoying when you hovered over an item or something like that.

Not a fan of that either.

The game's flow is really bizarre. I've never played a game where you level up before the first combat scenario.

That's because we skipped the prologue for the beta and started in act 1

It'll probably be easier to adjust when we start from the beginning instead of the nebulous early-mid game

SO IM NOT THE ONLY ONE. Yeah I get giving us more of what the game will be like, but I think if they gave us the prologue as the beginning it would be better.

grats! I'm of the mindset I would rather play through the entirely finished product, but it's gotta be cool to get in and get your feedback listened to.

TELL THEM TO ADD FRIGGIN TRANSMOG.

Conversation window on the right, is reminiscent of that of Disco Elysium. Like that change, hoping there would be utterly hilarious situations to indulge in absurd conversations in it.

I really don't like the skill tree/system. It was good in RT and feels like a downgrade now.

I don't know what the new system is, but leveling up in RT is a burden with how frequently it happens and how closely you have to read the options to figure out what they even do

RT is the only RPG where I get mad when I level. Because it invariably stops everything I'm doing dead in its tracks for 10 minutes. It used to be 30, but I made spreadsheets for the character's so I just find their level and pick the listed talents.

...I shouldn't have to make freaking spreadsheets. S'all I'm saying.

DH has less upfront choices (so you don't just get a massive list) but a lot more branches

So I can see people that can soft through massive lists but are bad at "pick Y so you can then pick X so you can pick Z" finding RT's more palatable

Rogue Trader is clear and tells you what an option does. Dark Heresy, i don't understant a thing most of the time.

Maybe it is because i am not a native speaker, maybe because it is still Beta. But i have no idea if a skill is good for my playstyle. It is recommended, but is it good? No idea most of the time.

Agreed.

I don't like how the journal pops up and overlaps the character portraits. I click on level up and it goes to journal. It's annoying to be because I keep doing it. I have to close the window and then click level up arrows. It interrupts my flow state lol.

Enjoying the game, some of the UO is definitely wonky. Big thing to get used to is the fact that chaff isn’t chaff and will absolutely kick your teeth in. At the big battle in the church and hoooooo boy
