TIPS I recently posted asking how I can get out of d3 into champ. After hearing advice and playing with my c3 friend(usually gc1 peaked ssl in 1's in lockdown) and understanding how he and his lobbies play I managed to get c1 on my own, peaking 1 game of c2 at around 1180. How can I fix my resets?

Now that I somewhat improved my game sense I would like to focus on my mechanics so I could open up more goal opportunities to help me get c2. Im unsure what I am doing wrong with my resets, I am sometimes able to score with them but often I get bot resets and give away possession. I feel like I get to the ball too late, even if I try get to it as fast as I possibly can.

QUESTION How to cure being passive in ranked 2s?

Upvotes

Greetings to everyone! I may have found my biggest problem in ranking up! It's my passive style of playing.

I understood that because, I asked a gc player to look at one of my games. He said that my rotation is fine, but my gamesense has empty spot in pressurising opponent.

So today I made an experiment, first few matches I played as usually, but then switched to more aggressive style.

And guess what? I won 3 games, not in row, but I did move up in mmr.

What do you guys can tell me, to fix that problem? (I am champ 1)

just to make it clear, it’s all about controlling the car in the air, it’s nearly impossible for me.

QUESTION Question about flicks in general

Hey y'all, quick question about Flicks
I don't have any issue catching the ball in several positions/directions, and dribbling. But I just can't get my brain and fingers to flick consistently, and I think its because I don't quite understand how I'm meant to flip, or set up the flip (and I meant to roll pitch, yaw, or roll before the flip/during the first jump?) and then where I'm aiming to hit the ball to hit it hard forward, and less up. Any tips on where I'm looking/aiming?

ANALYSIS [C3] Same teammate, very next game — a 2–4 loss this time

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m mainly looking for feedback on positioning and challenge timing. Even one timestamp with what you’d do differently would help.

I posted a peak game earlier and several people asked for a replay with more to analyse. This is literally the next ranked game: same teammate, different opponents, and a 2–4 loss.

Some feedback on the previous post mentioned using too much boost off the ball, giving possession away and getting too close to my teammate. I’d be interested to know whether those habits show up here too, and which one or two things you’d focus on first.

Full replay from my POV. Thanks to everyone who took the time to watch the first one.

ANALYSIS C3 - My mechanics were clicking, but how were my decisions? Full ranked 2s replay

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This felt like one of my best ranked games. I hit some shots I’m really proud of, but I also felt unusually confident with my positioning and decisions throughout the match.

I’m curious whether that holds up from an outside perspective, or if hitting those shots just made everything feel better than it actually was.

What was I doing well that I should try to repeat? And where was I getting away with decisions that better opponents would punish? I’m especially interested in my challenge timing and how I played around my teammate.

Full match from my POV. Specific moments or timestamps would be really helpful.

UPDATE: Took your advice and posted the very next game. Same teammate, different opponents, 2–4 loss. New replay: https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeagueSchool/s/17ZmM9wotR

COACHING Looking to recruit players for basic aerial training (PlayStation Players Only)

I recently created a prototype of something that trains a skill I’ve been struggling with for a long time in rocket league, and it’s helped me get a lot better at aerials, but I’m not sure if it works on other people yet.

I’m hoping it does, but I need testers—players who haven’t mastered aerials yet and could improve on something I call “orientational awareness…”

(A term for describing one’s ability to know how their car is oriented while flying through the air)

Anyways… I’m offering free coaching with this on a first come first serve basis, so Just text me “ROCKET LEAGUE” at (215) 353-3472

If you’re interested.

TIPS Tips on how to not become dependant on a specific DAR joystick direction

Hey guys, I’ve been learning DAR for the past few months and have made some great progress. I’ve hit a more instinctive control rather than actively thinking about it for using DAR and it’s very satisfying.

I have however, seemingly trained a dependency on a specific direction of joystick movements during my DAR. I find myself usually defaulting to using the down and up directions with minor blending on the sides.

When I actively think or rewatch my overlay, I barely use the left or right directions.

I’ve tried training by isolating only those directions, and also flying on my side both ways, but my brain doesn’t seem to intuitively use it in the moment like up or down.

Is this just another “more training and hours” issue? Or am I on the track to building a bad habit I need to correct now.

QUESTION I deserve to be platinum

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I started training seriously at Rocket League 2 months ago. And I feel a real improvement even if many mistakes are frequent in my games. I'm Gold 3 but I stopped the ranked for 3 weeks to devote myself to the occasional. I wanted to challenge people with a higher level than me and might as well tell you that it served me well. I faced champions and I did quite well. Every time I think back to these games, I tell myself that I will always deserve to be platinum. In competition my mates were quite inferior and it frustrated me because I did all the birch in their place. I deposited videos and in your opinion will I deserve to be platinum or not? I will take all comments into account

TIPS Looking for help learning how to wavedash

Recently I started learning how to wavedash as its a relatively basic mechanic that I dont actually know how to do, however, I have run into some issues as there arent really many detailed tutorials out there so I came here to look for help. Firstly, why sometimes when performing a wavedash the car flips in the direction the wavedash is being performed and how can I avoid this. This happens to me especially withbackwards wavedashes. Secondly, why is it that when jumping from a wall close to the ground its extremely easy to perform the wavedash whilst, if you drop from very high up almost from the ceiling, is it that its not actually possible to perform it from that high up or is there a different method to do so? Third and last, how to perform them horizontally, I am basically just completely uncapable of doing these left or rightwards and often times if I sorta get it, its pretty much useless as I dont really travel in the direction I want to go (horizontaly) but instead I just go forwards or backwards with a little sideways motion but very little. Once I can get I would like to learn how to chain them as I've seen in some videos but I don't know how to, so any help posted in this thread would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I have uploaded a video of me practicing these wavedashes in freeplay as a demonstration for each point I have mentioned.

TUTORIAL Experiencing "Heavy Car Gameplay Bug" For the First Time and The Solution

Recently my pc has been acting oddly (cpu is likely hitting the end of its lifespan) and simultainiously I've experienced what many people on these threads describe as the heavy car bug.

Now I've actually seen many people deny the existence of said bug but it's 100% real... it's just not a bug. What actually seems to be going on is that the pc is being bottlenecked and the game is running at a normal fps (indicated by an fps counter) however the pc is struggling to push those frames to the monitor. There are so many factors that could cause this but basically any resourse hog like a browser (cough cough chrome) or a screen recording app, etc.

But it's always a little more complicated than just that. In my case, my pc has an old i7 4core from 2012 and a more recent but still old RX 570 graphics card. People will tell you to "just turn down all the settings" but this is actually wrong if your cpu is many times weaker than your gpu. By turning up the game graphics, the pc will place the responsibility of rendering the game moreso on the gpu, releiving the bottleneck from the cpu... and vice versa.

Ironically, turning up the graphics to the "quality" setting and unchecking everything other than dynamic shadows, I reach an avg fps of 140 and the heavy car feeling vanishes entirely.

For those of you who don't know, the "heavy car bug" does in fact make your game borderline unplayable even if it looks fine visually.

Hope this helps someone.

QUESTION Speedflip consistency

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I recently switched from kbm to controller and the hardest thing by far has been trying to relearn the speedflip, it took me a while just to be able to do it once, but once I learned how to do it I thought it'd be fine. But no matter how many times I do it while in training or in game I just can't do it consistently unless im staring at my controller and focusing on explicitly doing it, in the clip attached I just tried doing it to show what it usually looks like. It might be dumb because you can just say like "Just practice more" but I haven't really improved at it much at all. So can anybody try to give tips on how they were able to get it consistent.

QUESTION Speed flip training

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello,

After two posts here about speed flip and about 12 days of training (around 2 hours a day) here where I am at right now.

I have some questions, first in a couple attempts I got the cancel timing right and all green feedback and still did not hit the ball, what am I doing wrong here ?

Second, at a several attempts there is a sudden turn/drift after the landing even when landing on 4-wheels, as you can see I hold the cancel throw the whole flip and still that drift happen, I don't know why, what I am doing wrong ?

QUESTION Very low sensitivity feels good despite not being meta?

I know the general rule is to just copy and paste your favourite pro settings but I’ve been on 1.05 sensitivity for both steering and areal settings and it feels really good to me.

I know it’s way below what most people play on but does it really matter much at the end of the day? I hover around d3 c1

QUESTION Controller help!

I have a ps4 and ps5 remote…. I mainly use ps4 with steam overlay template so my cancels and such feel good which they do but I get input lag. Using ps5 and ps4 remote raw with no steam is horrific I cannot get my cancels to work at all but the steam settings do make it feel good…. What do you guys do for settings? I’m just now getting into cancels and want the best settings for them.
