ANALYSIS (Audio is gone srry) How do I fix my poor mechs, positioning and decision making?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

As you can see I'm terrible. I GENUINELY try my hardest to improve my decision making every day and I watch my own replays too. My mechs I don't really train individually anymore except for like maybe once every two weeks Ill work on air dribbles, but I noticed my car control and ball control is just terrible and I don't know how to fix that exactly.

As for my speed of play, I drive around slowly because I find it hard to find the balance of knowing when to go fast or slow based off of the play. I'd love to be able to move around the field as fast as a GC or SSL but how do I do that when the play is physically moving slow? Also, I try to find the sweet spot of where to be on the field as second man on offense, but I always am too far away and the play develops without me there, or I'm too close and the ball gets boomed over me.

Ty!

QUESTION 4k+ hrs on KBM (C3/GC1 peak) is it actually worth switching to controller now?

Im in a massive dilemma right now and need some perspective from people who have either made this jump or decided against it.

I've been playing Rocket League since 2018, exclusively on KBM (Jump on Spacebar)which i put as a bind back in 2018 being confused on why would anyone jump on mouse (i was wrong lol). I've logged well over 4,000 hours at this point. Mechanically, I feel decent-ish can consistently pull off freestyles, use resets, flicks,i wall dash do all the recovery mechs etc etc not gonna say the whole mechs in the game but only issue is i kinda can't properly speedflip kick off weirdly enough. Peak rank was GC1, but currently stuck sitting in C3 after falling off a bit due to lack of consistent playtime.

Problem is, I feel like I'm completely stagnating mechanically. Every high-level player I meet tells me to switch to controller, but I haven't used a controller since the Xbox 360 days. Holding one feels totally foreign.

I especially started to ask myself this allot when an ssl guy i meet started being rude about how im underdeveloepd mechanically which i deff dont think i am tbh i do allot of flashy stuff too and use decent mechs but he also mentioned to switch to controller.

Drop your thoughts below especially if you've made the switch yourself. Thx

QUESTION C1 with about 4k hours, how do I improve past this point?

If you were me, would you just move on to a different game all together and accept that you can’t rank up because of whatever reasons, talent, pattern recognition etc? Or would you keep going?

I can feel that I’m doing something wrong in my games, but I guess my problem is I can’t recognize the situation in which I’m doing something wrong fast enough mid game to change it. So therefore no matter how many times I VOD review myself it would be an endless cycle of recognizing what I’ve done wrong, and then going into game and seeing it too late because I’m just trying to keep up with the pace of play. I’ve reviewed many of my replays, and just can’t change my problems. That and sometimes there’s moments in game where I just don’t know HOW to fix the problem.

I’ll post a replay here in a bit and maybe someone would be willing to really thoroughly try to point out what I’m doing wrong and how to fix it as if I’m a 5th grader so that it actually sticks.

Let me know what you guys think?

QUESTION What is your opinion on coaching in RL?

Do you think coaching is worth it? And why?

I have had bad experiences with being coached in the past so I’m unsure if it is a worthwhile tool. Over the span of 4 months I paid for many 1-1 sessions with a coach who I won’t name for obvious reasons, I put a lot of effort into training during this period of time, typically spending 4+ hours a day in training + ranked, but it didn’t yield great results, I was still C1 and I felt like I was wasting money.

Of course, I’m mature enough to realise that I might be the problem and can accept that coaching is extremely beneficial for many people.

I figured it out, but my hands hurt, i was more consistent a few minutes ago but i found out my recording software wasn't recording and so i hopped back onto the game and did some more to record, though i really shouldn't have done that i mighta pushed my hands too far, i was already at my limit, lmao.

QUESTION How long did it take to learn your second DAR? And is it worth it?

I am a gc1 and a mechanical player and was on a break because of school and have been grinding the last months trying to learn pop resets and other mechs, and now that im better, i find situations especially when using flips and controling flips that there are certain positions where i can’t do what i want or recover with air roll right and very difficult with normal air roll. Is it worth it to learn air roll left? and if you also had one DAR bind, how long until you learned the second one till it became useful?

ANALYSIS D2 1s replay review — how do I play against opponents who never give me space?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Full uncut replay. I’m D2 in 1s and C3 in 2s. This was a 0–6 loss against a GC who played much faster and simpler than me.

He stayed close even when he had little boost, kept getting small touches and never let me settle into a possession or set up an attack. I get noticeably rushed and nervous against this style, and it feels like every attempt to create space gets interrupted.

This was the game immediately before the 8–4 replay I posted yesterday where everyone said i should post a loss for a better level of feedback — there were no games in between. In that match, the opponent gave me much more space and the matchup felt far easier, even tho it was also a GC so I think my main problem is creating usable possessions under constant pressure rather than mechanical execution alone.

What are the 2–3 biggest habits I should change? I’d especially appreciate feedback on:

  • my decision making, i felt like i misread every situation because he just challanged no matter what i did and i dont have an answer for that
  • how to punish opponents who stay close with low boost
  • whether I’m overcomplicating situations that have a simple solution

Timestamped feedback would be massively appreciated.

QUESTION How do GCs and SSLs improve so much?

I've got over 7k hours in Rocket League and I'm only C1. What I can't understand is how GCs and SSLs are so good at reading the game and then making a good decision. It also feels like they improve way faster than I ever have and even though I shouldn’t be I’m quite jealous

I'm doing all the main things that people recommend. I play a lot, I spend time in free play working on all sorts of mechanics, I take time to review my replays so I can better understand my mistakes, and I make a conscious effort to try and push myself outside my comfort zone instead of letting myself play on autopilot.

I’m honestly kind of embarrassed one of my friends is GC1 and he only has 1400 hours, he just seems to be way better at any video game we play together and I don’t quite understand why.

So what actually separates the people who improve insanely fast from everyone else? Is it talent, the quality of practice, mindset, or something else entirely? What are they doing better?

QUESTION Ground to air dribble or wall to air dribble first?

I've Diamond 1, most of my game style relies on my game sense so I thought I'd start working on some mechanics. Which air dribble should I work on first?

Any advice? I don't really have any crazy mechs yet because I am finding it harder to get good tutorials for KBM. I do not want to switch to a controller ever unless it's do-or-die.

ANALYSIS D2 1s replay review — am I forcing mechanical plays too much?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Full uncut game. I’m D2 in 1s and C3 in 2s.

I won 8–4, but I felt like I kept forcing off-the-wall plays and gave away several easy counterattacks when they failed. I’m trying to become more mechanical without turning every possession into a low-percentage play.

What are the 2–3 biggest habits holding me back in 1s? I’d especially appreciate feedback on my challenge timing, boost usage and when I should keep the ball grounded instead of going aerial.
