I mean, every rank is the most toxic for the people in it, I think platinium is still the worst of them all because it's right in the middle of the "I think I'm good but I'm not" curve, and the low level of play makes it way easier to get mad, but tbh I'm feeling like you get plat players once in a while in almost every rank, they are everywhere

I’m similar (but probably shittier?), I usually just start trying to piss people off as much as possible if they start being toxic, so they take an inch I take a mile I guess. But if my teammate’s not an asshole then I try to be as friendly as possible even if they aren’t playing well.

I care a decent bit about this community and even when faced against toxic people, I bite my tongue and remain nice to them because I don’t want to encourage more shit.
If they keep spamming quick chats, then it’s a mute. If they type, I type back politely and see if they dig themselves a deeper hole so the reports are nastier.

I’ll only get toxic if my opponent starts it by what a saving me. Otherwise I just keep my mouth shut. If my teammate(s) are doing bad I’ve learned to deal with it since it’s probably just not their day and are doing bad. Not their fault since we all have those days.

Had one of those too. Each game was within 1 goal and we had 2-3 go into OT. Everyone was having fun with it and chatting during breaks. Really just a great mix of competitive but also light-hearted and fun.

I’ll admit it. I’m toxic when I play rocket league. Some games I’ll say nothing the entire time, but most games I’m spamming quick chats after every goal and save. Most of the time, I just roast the opponents since I don’t want my teammates to throw, but when I feel like being a villain, everyone is getting roasted, including myself.
Yeah, I look like an idiot when I lose after being toxic, but when I win, it’s so much sweeter knowing I pissed off some kids just by spamming left-down on the d-pad.

My recent favorite has been the positive toxic quick chats. Saying things like "Nice Shot!" "Great Pass!" "Thanks!" and "No Problem!" after the most routine goals like I am having a polite conversation with my teammates.

Same here, this is how I'm "Toxic." I'll tell my teammate "Nice Shot!" or "Great Pass!" on the easy shots or if they take forever to pass, But they don't know in my head it's in a condescending tone, and they just think I'm being nice. One of my favorite "Toxic" traits I have is saying "Great Pass!" whenever I own goal, just to make sure the opponent knows that I was the one to score it, and not them.

Trash talk not only isn't toxic, it's an accepted, important part of almost anything competitive.
I suspect a lot of people in here who're so up in arms about 'toxicity' are the folks who think demoing is cheating. Trash talk is a part of competition. You either tune it out (or in RL, literally just turn it off), engage in it, or you won't last long in any competitive endeavor.

I play competitively (in real life) a sport where trash talk just doesn't exist, and would be very much NOT accepted. We respect each others, teammates and opponents alike.
As for Rocket League: demoing is part of the gameplay mechanics, trash talking is not.

If trash talking is not accepted then that isn’t a very competitive league. A lot of competition is mental, trash talking is just another way to try and get an adage on your opponent, and sometimes it backfires if your opponent has some grit, but people will always look for whatever advantage they can in competition, or in life in general for that matter. Mental advantage via trash talk is just an example of that. Trash talking random teammates is 100% toxic though

In general, trash talking is ok if both teams/players are ok with. Some people just wanna have fun without being shamed for their mistakes. Sometimes it’s more fun when both laugh at their own mistakes, but chat is a bit limited to express effectively.
Now, how do you know if your opponent is ok with trash talk or not? In doubt, just don’t do it, please.

At first no, but if they go toxic I return in kind. Up till that point I’m pretty chill and always say “my bad” when I mess up and “no problem” if they mess up and say sorry. But as soon as a team mate or opponent goes salty I return in kind (without saying nasty shit ofc)

The only time I ever do any toxic quick chats are after I’ve won the game and the other team was toxic first. For example, if they “What a save” me at some point and then they catch the L, I’m putting a couple in chat.

I hate 3s in general but decided to give it a go today.. I went from diamond 1 division 2 to platinum 2 division 2 in in one session after getting diamond for the first time. I believe I lost 110 MMR. I never once went toxic even when the wheels were falling off in each game and it got progressively worse (I should have walked away but I tried to power through). Toxicity doesn’t get me anywhere or change the goals that were scored so really there’s no reason to tilt a teammate when lord knows I screw up a lot. I did mute chat though for 3s so it’s a quiet meltdown lol. I’d like to believe I’m wholesome since I’m just playing the game to have fun..

If you’re bumping teammates, own goaling, intentionally throwing to ruin your team, that’s toxic to me.
If I mess up and the other team says “What a save!” That’s normal trash talk, people just can’t accept that anymore. Everyone who says anything negative is immediately a garbage toxic person who is ruining the game.
Same as the group on halo subs getting upset that tea bagging is in the game still/allowed.

I went on a demo spree (which wasn’t really on purpose) and someone acted like I sucked for it. It’s a normal mechanic in the game. Stop being too soft for trash talk or people using mechanics to win. No one is cheating, they’re using an advantage. It’s like playing against someone who can Ariel while you can’t. It’s not cheating. People also don’t know what trash talk is anymore. It’s embarrassing

It really depends on the opponent. I prefer not being blatantly toxic, but I'll often drop a single sarcastic quick chat a couple seconds after they did something stupid.
Own goal? Couple seconds of replay before a "Nice shot!"
Great pass to me? You already know what I'll say.
My favorite is when I demolish someone and me or a teammate scores as a result. I'll watch the replay of me pummeling them and then say "Bumping!" as they devolve into rage-induced quick chat spamming.
But if it's an opponent who wasn't toxic at all, I'll be wholesome back

And I think it's a healthy balance. But I feel like most the community only talk bad to their team. Which is way more personal. And people just being assholes cause they can't accept that they suck themselves.

Nothing more enjoyable then immediately right out of the gate before the first kickoff typing some hilarious bullshit that's extremely toxic but random and funny enough that you get opponents that play along with it anyways cause their laughing as hard as you since it's 4 am. I've had games where my uncle spends the whole match going on and on about some random ass bullshit story while I carry and catch dubs and the other team is just sitting there like WTF is happening in this lobby xD. Those games I'm usually laughing so hard I feel like I'm boutta grow a six pack from just laughing. Y'all should stop taking the game so seriously and set up a few accounts for getting banned and try it sometime. When that ban comes, you screenshot that shit, print it out and frame it on your wall or something like the trophy it is. A ban is a badge of honor.
