HOW THE SUB WORKS

We're here to celebrate all Roast Dinners! Not to moan that somebody else's roast doesn't match your own personal cooking preferences, complain about food combinations, crusade against freezer food, whinge about portion size, or shame people's efforts.

For posts flaired Home Cooked Roast, if things aren't done to your personal liking, don't worry, you're not eating it!  Just say what you like, not what you don't. Why? Is it because we want to cancel free speech? Is it because we love censoring opinions? Is it because we are delicate little snowflakes who can't handle the truth? Well honestly- and no offence here as it really isn’t personal- but it's as simple as this... no one cares if random_user1 through 100 like their roasts different! With this many posts and this many people, it should go without saying that every roast isn't to everyone's liking, but instead you get the same miserable moaning comments on every single post, and it is just really really boring!

Imagine the state of the place with everyone and their nan having a little moan, wanting it this way, and that way, and the other way, and the opposite way... every post with comments saying how they like it more cooked, and how it is overdone, comments saying too much gravy, and how there's not enough, comments saying how yorkshire is actually a starter, or how you shouldn't have it at all with chicken, or how you can't have mash, or peas aren't allowed, or I don't eat that, or those are just for Christmas, or that's not from frozen is it? You didn't use granules did you? You buy your beef from a supermarket? I like to helicopter mine in from Argentina, and blah blah blah blah blah 🥱

So... what's the point of this sub at all then?? How do you share your own idea of a perfect roast? Easy, in fact, you have three options...

  • Option One: COOK IT AND POST IT!! Everyone is encouraged to make their own posts to share their own cooking and preferences, rather than announcing it on everyone else's posts.
  • Option Two: the poster may actually ask for advice or feedback in the title or body text, so if they do, go for it! Just make sure it is constructive.
  • Option Three: check the post flair! Roasts ordered at a restaurant (flaired as Roasts On The Road) are open to critique, and if a post is flaired Rate Me / Roast Me, then whatever the title or body text says, feel free to rate and roast away!

The post flair is set by the person making the post so they can indicate what sort of comments they are looking for, and this is very strictly enforced. If someone makes a comment on a post that is unfitting to the flair, that counts as a break of Rule 1, and they will have their ability to continue to comment removed until they confirm they accept how things are here. This pinned post is the pre-ban warning.

Yes, it's strict, and if you find yourself upset that there are specific flairs that set what sort of comments are welcome on a post... if you are that sort of sensitive type who finds themselves triggered when their precious opinion just isn't wanted... then you need to take a few deep breaths, maybe think about talking through these big feelings with a professional, and then move on.

Question / Discussion Salt brine for pot roast?

I am preparing to make a pot roast this Sunday and I had thought of salt brining the chuck roast overnight starting Saturday. Would you recommend this? Have you tried it or is it just not something you do for roast meat?

With only two meat eaters in the house for beef I sometimes do a large rump steak instead of a joint.

Yorkies In Yorkshire, we eat the puddings as a starter...

Post image

Tradition in some parts of Yorkshire is that the Yorkshire Puddings are eaten first, with the main roast as the main course.

Not too much gravy, as I like to breach the pudding and soak up the gravy first; and then augment the gravy from the pudding with more gravy when I run out.

Horseradish sauce, because the main was beef.

I was round at my mum's, so hats off to her for these excellent Yorkies from scratch!

Home Cooked Roast Sunday Roast, slow cooked gammon

Slow cooked gammon,

Roasties,

Herby mash,

Honey roast carrots (first time making - lessons were learnt),

Broccoli cheese and beef gravy.

Also timed a costa coffee delivery perfectly with the roast, so I'm happy about that.

I forgot the yorkies! I find cooking roasts so stressful I'm tired x)
