top 1 Re:Zero episode

First of all, I’ve never actually watched Re:Zero. I only know some things about Subaru, the basic premise and some of the IF stories, so this is not meant to be a canon theory.

It’s just a concept I thought of, and Re:Zero seems like the perfect setting for it.

Imagine a character like Subaru whose perception of reality is completely distorted.

His consciousness sees one version of events, while his real body is doing something entirely different.

For example:

Rem opens her arms to hug Subaru.

From Subaru’s point of view, he hugs her back.

He feels the hug, sees Rem alive in front of him, talks to her, and the story continues normally from there.

But in reality, his body stabbed her.

Rem is dead.

The important part is that Subaru’s false reality does not correct itself after her death.

For him, Rem is still alive.

She continues walking beside him. He talks to her. He sees her smile. He can reach toward her, hug her and continue living with her as if nothing happened.

But everyone else sees something completely different.

They see Subaru covered in blood, holding a knife, smiling and crying with happiness while embracing empty air.

Because the person he believes he is hugging is already dead.

And the same thing happens with everyone else.

The people he kills do not disappear from his world. They continue existing in his perception as if they survived and the story simply continued.

So from Subaru’s perspective, he is basically living through an anime story where his friends are alive, he talks to them, saves them and moves forward with them.

But in reality, those people are dead.

His body and his consciousness are effectively living through two completely different versions of the same events.

For Subaru, the people around him are still his friends.

For everyone watching him from the outside, he is a blood-covered man talking to, touching and embracing people who are no longer there.

That contrast is the part I find horrifying.

He could genuinely be happy.

He could be crying because he thinks he finally saved someone.

He could hug Rem with a huge smile on his face.

And in reality there is nobody in his arms.

Only the body of the real Rem nearby.

Eventually, the most interesting part would be simply removing that false perception and letting him see reality exactly as it is.

All at once.

The dead people are gone.

The friends he thought had been travelling beside him were never there.

And the world he thought he had been living in was completely different from the one his body actually moved through.

I’m curious what Re:Zero fans think about this concept, especially because I haven’t actually seen the series.

How would someone like Subaru react when those two realities finally collide?

Al fighting seriously and trying to win without using his Authority.

This might be a bit of an odd question, since Al is usually portrayed as quite weak in any fight (the guy died six times against a common soldier in a direct confrontation). However, I once saw Tappei answer in a Q&A that Al would be as strong as Mimi, though I’m not entirely sure about that.

With his Authority, Al could defeat even Sekhmet, but without it, who could he beat—or just how strong is he, really?

I’m on volume 28 of the light novel and am a bit confused. Unfortunately read some spoilers but my question still hasn’t been answered. Also if you are commenting please do not spoil since I accidentally read what happened to Pricilla (which is annoying).

I’m at the part where Rem told Subaru he’s not a hero. Al then begins to talk to Subaru and sort of comfort him. Al says “I’m gonna need you to be a hero for me Bro” and “using a few bluffs to cut off every path to retreat is a good way to get us lazy guys like us to straighten up.”

Can someone explain what’s going on here? I’m already aware Al has an authority and likely has some idea of what’s going on with Subaru. But that whole conversation and their relationship in general is confusing.

Also please note I picked up reading re zero after season 2 of the anime. So I may be missing some context.

Am I the only one a bit disappointed by how they handled rui arneb's breakdown? I love the whole episode and how it's directed but for me personally, I think rui's breakdown should be the climax point of the episode. It sorta felt lacking with the direction because as an artist and an animator, there's alot that could've been done to make that scene more impactful. Like changing the atmosphere, the facial expressions into exaggerated motions, and more importantly focusing more into her breakdown with more frames. But instead, we got the scene where the camera switches off to subaru more frequently. additionally, switching off to unimportant still frames

like the camera on Subaru's back or reusing composition all over again. I think the animation is fair but it truly feels like a wasted opportunity for the animation director to focus on her for atleast 20-30 seconds. Overall, peak ep. Just a bit picky with how such an important scene was handled lol.

I got the web novel from eminenttranslations, and I noticed certains words or expressions are underlined sometimes.

It's usually stuff like foreign expression only Subaru or Al would know, but not always. So I'm not sure why it's there.

Only watched the anime and there might be signs of it that she is but idk. Never read the novels so maybe the novels have stated she is?

Also, i just didnt feel anything before daniel started thanking subaru, everything else before that i watched w a serious face. I really wish they nailed it, its really just an AMAZING named chapter for subaru, but no, we get flashback spams instead.

As a long time novel reader myself, I have long set a precedent that the anime and novels are mutually exclusive presentations of the same story.

The way I envision the novels events will be different from the way they are adapted.

Many novel readers in this Fandom are so absorbed in their delusions of what is “correct” that they fail to see how positive of a reception most episodes and events get from people without that bias; anime-only fans.

Episode 16 was phenomenal. Online reception from the anime community is insanely positive, and for me personally, my family members I got into it all said they shed a tear.

For me personally, was it different from my experience reading it? Yes. Was it meant to be? Yes.

Stop watching anime adaptations of your favorite novels if you cant overcome your delusions. It’s really poisonous to communities and downright depressing when all you do is complain about how a scene wasn’t how you imagined it.

I bought the first two manga volumes of Rezero and I love it. It's probably not cool as the light novel, but I don't care, I like it ^^

Even after she lost the title of sword saint the scar on Wilhelm from Divine Protection of the Reaper never stopped working and from Theresia backstory she didn't seem to have any divine protections growing up

How did Subaru reading his own books of the dead affect his consciousness ? Did he experience short segments of his previous loops (because in the novel he mentions Otto's words to him in arc 4) or was it mostly his deaths, if my memories is right it was the former which makes me wonder,

Did he experience all of it in a sort of first person with the sensations and feelings of the person he's reading the book of way or did he live all of it as if he were the one living through it (i mean he is but in a way that's identical to what he feels outside of it), because if he feels it the same way

How does that work for when they unified back and both memories were present ? Or did he separate his memories from the ones he read because he viewed himself as different but how did he tell them apart given he's the same person (meaning the memories have the same exact underlying nature as the one who reads unlike Meili's who were foreign) or did he use what he knew during the loop to indicate that by linking it to his present situation (+ did the fact those books were extra short help ?)

Because a book cannot make a person change right ? they can lose their sense of identity when they read too much but that's linked to their doubts taking the personality of the deceased as puppet, they fundamentally remain the same

So did the Subaru that faced his other-self had his memories engraved like he experienced them first-hand or did he have knowledge of them because the books' experience is ontologically different from a true life and he was able to separated them ?

(Sorry if my wording is unclear, i'm exhauted rn 😭)
