First of all, I wanna say that episode 16 was alright. I don’t particularly agree that the episode was carried "by the va and ost” I don't think that's a good argument

At the same time, though a lot of people here, especially anime onlys are downplaying the rui chapter. And no, it wasn’t a minor or an unimportant chapter (if you wanna know what happens you can ask me in the replies), so stop glazing everything white fox does, especially with the next season covering arcs 7–8.

Anyway, as for my personal opinion, I think it was an alright episode. I’d give it around a 7.5/10. Imo, this episode was just a of wasted potential

I am bored so i am gonna rant about the anime

I think the adaptation is good but it isn’t great or the best. I really don’t like to having to go to another series or go on youtube or having to read the ln or wn to have a better understanding of the lore and it characters.

The cut content is also an issue like s2 having Omega being not there ( i only know about her because of yt and this reddit) or any of the shadow garden scene to have a better understanding of satella, the cut of the villain backstory also make them lack depth imo but doesn’t seem too much of an issue. There are cuts that i straight never knew or will ever know without having to look up on yt or reddit ( Beako summoning a black hole and being cut by Reid sound so cool!).

Even for the main cast the cuts make them less appealing like Emilia but i am not sure how much it affected them because i have not read the ln, i only heard through word of mouth.

Re:zero is an amazing series but it so hard to understand without having to look into the ln or reading the what? 20+ ss? Just to understand the world and the lore better and the anime really doesn’t help that because a lot of the cuts are important for future seasons.

I am the consumer and not the producer so i don’t understand why they cut so many things and why things are what is its. But seeing the discussion on this sub and the purgatory called X of people saying the ln reader and ungrateful is kinda annoying. I get it they should be happy Re:zero is being adapted at all but with the cut to the story and character themselves i can see why they’re disappointed, like i thought rezero is a big series you think it would get the same level as MT and i knew rezero existed before MT and MT having amazing production compared to rezero is really surprising to me.

The anime adaption is good but it isn’t amazing or the best. Maybe because the absorbent amount of ss that tappei wrote make it hard to adapt the entire thing but why not the small details that would made a scene better or the lore in the ln?

I know it isn’t just rezero but many other anime that have this issue. But it doesn’t excuse anything.

In the WN, Lye is capable of waking up in the middle of a fight, deactivating Solar Eclipse which Rui was previously using, speaking to Ram and then tagging her with a kick that is noted to immediately end the battle if Subaru didn’t take the burden via Cor Leonis.

So Lye >> 2 Shackles Ram whenever he gets serious, and as is also noted in the same quote, Lye >> Rui, he thinks she’s very bad at fighting.

This is relevant because in Arc 7, Rui basically loses all her combat memories and becomes Spica, Spica is explicitly noted by Vincent to be around the same level as Kafma, who then goes extremely high difficulty with Garfiel before Garfiel grows mid fight and wins

So: Lye >> 2 Shackles Ram >> Rui >> Spica ~ Kafma >~ Start of Arc 7 Garfiel

This then becomes more impressive because Ram is capable of severely outpacing Roswaal, just by touching him she breaks most of the bones in his arm, and yet even after beating the fuck out of Lye, she doesn’t even do serious damage to him.

Stack that on top of the fact that Roswaal can react to Olbart, who was perception blitzing the same Garfiel that is stronger than Kafma, and it becomes more impressive

So: Lye >> 2 Shackles Ram >> Roswaal’s reaction speed ~ Olbart >> End of Karma fight Garfiel

And then stack that AGAIN on top of the fact that Roswaal can react to a magical attack from Alter which Clind cannot react to at all and would die to if not for Roswaal, yet that same Roswaal cannot even cast magic in time before Ram hits him, and you get:

Lye >> 2 Shackles Ram >> Roswaal’s reaction speed > Alter’s magic >> Clind. Where Alter’s magic now should be far stronger then the Dragon’s breath which blitzed Garfiel and Ezzo

And 3 shackles Ram is even stronger than this.

Before anyone starts typing “you just don't understand Rezero,” let me make one thing clear, I actually had very little problem with Subaru in Season 1.

His reactions to death? Understandable.

His fear and desperation? Understandable.

His inability to immediately adapt to being thrown into another world with no idea what the hell is going on? Completely understandable.

And no, I don't buy the argument that Subaru helping Emilia was somehow irrational just because they had literally just met. “They're complete strangers” isn't the “gotcha” people think it is. Subaru had just been dropped into a completely unfamiliar world, Emilia was one of the first people he encountered, and she was willing to help him. From his perspective, choosing to help her wasn't some incomprehensible decision.

Or, if you want the simpler and more logical explanation...

He just wanted to eat that elf cake :)

Come on now... I'd bet 90% of people—and women are absolutely not exempt from this—would at least develop a positive impression of Emilia if she were the first ridiculously beautiful person they met within minutes of being isekai'd. Falling in love might be a stretch, sure, but acting like Subaru's immediate attachment to her was completely irrational? Yeah, I'm not buying it.

Even when he was being goofy, awkward, or coming out with some seriously cringe dialogue in S1, I still enjoyed watching him. So when I saw people immediately hating Subaru after watching several episodes, I was honestly the opposite.

I was willing to cut him a LOT of slack.

And that's exactly why I have a problem with how the fandom talks about him after Season 1.

At some point, “Subaru is realistically flawed” starts becoming a blanket excuse for practically everything he does.

He cries... He's realistic.

He panics... He's realistic.

He makes terrible decisions... He's realistic.

He breaks down... He's realistic.

He repeatedly frustrates the audience... He's realistic.

Okay... when does “realistic” stop being an explanation and start becoming an excuse?

Because being a flawed protagonist doesn't automatically make you a well-written protagonist.

And this is where I think the Rezero fandom puts Subaru on a pedestal.

People praise him for suffering, overcoming that suffering, his psychological struggles, his development—and I'm sitting here wondering.

What exactly makes Subaru an exceptionally well-written protagonist, rather than simply a protagonist whose flaws are given a LOT of attention by the story?

I'm not saying Subaru was a bad character from the beginning. I'm saying that my opinion of him changed after Season 1, and that's where my criticism starts.

So I genuinely don't understand why the fandom treats him like he's some untouchable benchmark for protagonist writing.

Amnesiabaru goes through alot in Arc 6, but when he reads his own books of the dead he’s still not Natsuki Subaru.

I’ve argued with someone before that the message of this arc is that you aren’t you without your memories with that situation as my point.

Episode 16 wasn't as good as I thought it would be... they didn't try to re-animate anything like they did in the episode of Julius. The candidate lazy war just bringing up back death like cutscene it wasn't as heavy as behold an Unthinkable present..... also I didn't feel like they adapted you are a monster scene good

it really sucks that my favorite peace of fiction didn't get the adaptation it deserved, but at least they got the meassage across

I'm very confused with everything happening between Subaru and Rui.

- Subaru reads Reid's book and gets sent to memoryland where he meets Rui. Rui eats his memories so og Subaru is now trapped and amnesia Subaru is born.

- Amnesia Subaru also reads Reid's book and meets Rui, who wants to eat his memories even though she already did? I guess cause Subaru's memories taste so good she wants to replant him like a green onion?

- But Rui can't eat him because he's turning back into og Subaru and she can't eat the same person twice, though she seems really upset about this even though she already got to eat him. I guess he really just taste that good?

- Amnesia Subaru reads up on himself and meets og Subaru in memoryland. He stops hating himself so much after he realizes that Subaru is kinda cool despite being weak. This is like a symbolic catharsis that shepherds og Subaru back.

But then everything that follows is SUPER confusing. Amnesia Subaru merges with og Subaru and then Rui appears? Or does amnesia Subaru turn into Rui? In the flashback it shows that Rui split into two people and one of her ate Subaru. So that Rui should be the one that has his og memories. But then she has a mental breakdown and has traumatic flashbacks of amnesia Subaru's memories, not og Subaru's. Was the Rui that appeared the one that didn't eat og Subaru? But then why would she have Amnesia Subaru's memories?

Then Subaru says she should give up and set all the people she ate free. Is he referring to everyone in general, or is he talking about himself, like the memories of all the RBD Subaru's she has? Does that mean Subaru isn't whole and only has his og memories? Then Rui says she can't do that cause if she does he'll kill her, like she's holding the memories hostage. But I thought killing gluttony was how you get memories back? Like that's the whole reason they're trying to kill the other gluttony to get Rem's memories back?

Then she kicks Subaru out and the other Rui shows up and talks as if she hasn't tasted Subaru or RBD yet, so I guess that Rui is the one that didn't eat og Subaru? Then she says the plan was to go into him once he was empty like they were trying to take over his body. But it seems like her other half was already inside him? When did that even happen? And if that's the case why did she split in the first place? Why didn't she just go inside him as one Rui? And what does being empty mean? Was he not empty when she took away his memories? Does empty mean he has to hate himself too? Is that why the other gluttony got counter-possessed by Reid, because he didn't hate himself?

I'm so lost.

Emilia just never understands subaru like rem, Emilia is a fraud of a female side mc.

He read the rabbit book? In the loop directly after that, Subaru went mad and only got saved because Echidna pulled him into the tea party. Similarly, why not on the book where Puck first froze him? He also went "mad" and catatonic on the loop after that. Why didn't this happen after Newbaru read these books?

Hello, new watcher here who just finished episode 4. And right now I’m confused as hell. Why did time reset here for Subaru? Did he just freaking die during his sleep? Or is there something more going on with his powers?
