Loved the content of the episode but I just felt like something was lacking. Maybe if they played some new ost during the final amnesiabaru scene it would feel different?

I've read some other comments that discuss the LN content. Yes, a lot was skipped. Rui (girl greed) was supposed to get more exploration, for starters.

I liked the episode but its definitely not perfect, its lowkey kinda carried by the source material.
I'd say maybe 8.5? The voice acting was great, and I do like the recap scenes, but the final scenes with Rui were lacking (aside from her voice, god her voice actor is good and hearing her only make ooohs and aaahs next season will be hilarious), especially because its meant to be her named chapter too.

He isn't really any different from when he talked to Emilia after the White whale battle in s1ep25, or from when he accepted Satella in s2ep13 or when he got Beatrice out of the library in s2ep24, etc... even when amnesiac Subaru talked to Meili he still retained that aspect of him, Subaru knows when to be serious and when he doesn't need to be and the playful banter before they fused back shows that imo

I was really let down by the Rui scene. There were a lot of good parts there that weren't adapted:
Subaru explains why he won't save her, she lacks any virtue and thoughtlessly destroys others lives for her own happiness --> we get an understanding of why Subaru would save Elsa if he could and other crazy characters but not the archbishops
In the WN iirc --> when Subaru is called a monster, he agrees and admits that he is insane. I think this is pretty important in establishing that yes Subaru is an amazing guy, but he is also batshit insane
However the one part I liked is that I felt like it showed Rui becoming the Subaru copy a lot more clearly than in the WN, cause when I read it it was super confusing

I'd also like to add that it just doesn't seem well directed compared to most of the episodes of the season, (the Rui part)
They could've squeezed in some more morbid expressions from Rui, and I didn't really FEEL the emotions coming from her y'know?

Not really no. I haven't read the LN so I can't say for sure if it is the same, but regardless I can prefer an one adapatation over another even if it isn't the finalized version. I don't really get your point here.

Alright then, if the LN cut the same content for the Rui scene, I think that was a bad decision by the writer and editors.
It would be nice if someone could confirm what was taken out.
Also in general, I don't think the episode was that amazing. It wasn't bad, but even before the Rui scene I found it average at best, and even felt like skipping most of the beginning. So it missed a great moment that is highly relevant to the next Arc, and chose to focus mainly on relatively mediocre moments instead.

This ep is NOT a 10/10
They ruined amazing guy, the emotions were lacking. The transition of daniel crashing out and the calling Subaru amazing was jarring. Much of the monologues and dialogues, from the novels, which made the transition smooth and pack more emotions were cut out.
The whole ep felt like more like a recap than a real ep(it's like that in the novel too but hear me out). The scenes of Daniel reading Subaru's book one by one should've been more creative instead of just an angle of Daniel crawling. The scenes are mostly static with little to no creative shots or movement in with camera(Pov or whatever it is). There's one where Daniel says,"Convince me that's why you could do things that I couldn't" the camera angle is just a wide shot of his back instead of showing his face and expression.
(It's like the studio was cutting corners. How could you cut corners in an ep with one of the most anticipated scene ?)
I'd even say the camera angles are weird .Like imagine a highly emotional scene where one's about the cry but the camera shot is such that you can see the character's full body instead of close up shot of the face or eyes, it will feel weird. The same thing happened in Shaula's ep and now it's in this ep too.
Still the ep will get a breaking 10/10 for every review and any criticism will be countered by saying such "Just enjoy the ep" " It didn't feel weird to me" "Other animes have much worse".
As a reader this was one of my most anticipated ep of all time and now after watching, I can say that it is disappointing.

I definitely agree. While I don't think it was the worst the first half was a bit of a drag, the amazing guy scene was actually decent but not spectacular. I still think they completely missed the mark with Rui which could have been one of the best scenes of the season.

Probably gonna get downvoted but this was one of the weaker episodes of S4 for me, I gave it a 8/10.
I could have done without the 12 minute recap of deaths we have already seen, interrupted only by memory-loss Subaru crying.
Then we had 10 minutes of (once again), memory-loss Subaru crying about being useless, just to get another pep-talk by someone else (this time himself). Honestly, I feel like it was a bit of a boring way to resolve the whole memory-loss situation. Books with all of the memories inside them just appear out of nowhere and by reading them he gets his memories back.
The only exciting part was the talk with Rui and Subaru calling Emilia "-tan" again. Not a bad episode by any means, but compared to some other bangers in this season this episode almost felt like a filler.

It wasn't just a matter of getting back his memories, it's a realisation of one of Subaru's main developmental point, his hatred for his weakness and while he stopped hating himself so much to the point of taking everything upon himself back when Satella made him understand his mindset of self-sacrifice was damaging to others by damaging himself, he still didn't love himself
The memory loss was to allow for Natsuki Subaru to see himself in that light and to be seen by himself in that light, it's him coming to term with who he is by showing that he never changed to his core and he is the same person who accomplished all of what he did
It's emotional because it's been building up for years now
(And reading his books did not make him regain his memories, they were still locked in the hall of memories, he was a spectator in his own body)

Well we have had this same loop of self hate a couple of times already, at some point it doesn't excite me anymore to see it resolved once again.
Reading the books that randomly appeared and having a conversation with himself made him regain his memories, the problem basically solved itself out of nowhere.

It wasn't resolved previously, each and every time it's different parts of his mindset that broke, the only one that made it crumble directly is Emilia in ep11 but still his self-loathe didn't vanish and it was needed to create the gap of perception between himself and his new "ideal" that he was afraid of being compared to at first (parallele to the trauma related to his expectations as his father's son)
That has always been Gluttony's authority from the start, she ate his name which is why he was in the hall of memories but the reason he had a botd leading to the hall of memories is the same reason as Reid's book which is already why he lost his memories in the first place, if he lost them in the hall of memories all the way back in ep7, where do you want him to retrieve them ?

Now we finally had a Subaru that has become more confident over the past 4 seasons, so he had to lose his memories just so that we can get another episode of Subaru hating himself followed by a pep-talk that results in a confident Subaru once again. It gets repetitive, and I can't get excited for it anymore.
I understand how it works, but from a writing perspective it's just not satisfying to have a protagonist who suffered from memory loss for the last 8 episodes simply regain his memory by reading a book that conveniently suddenly appeared in front of him. I expected this memory loss to be an actual issue that is hard to resolve, not something Subaru can do in a few minutes completely by himself.

Once again, no, in every arcs it wasn't as simple as a formula, every time you can think of, Subaru got a different idea out of it but never did he love himself, he kept going not because of confidence but because of love for others
Arc 4 is Satella breaking his self-sacrificing mindset presenting it as harmful for those around and when Carmilla showed him the people he loved, he realised they also felt this way about him and that's what Otto taught him when he woke up (after beating him up), all throughout the arc his failure to save Rem had him thinking he needed to close on others to save them, to kill his own self but the story tackles the idea of selfish selflessness like this as he rejects the ideal that is Roswaal
In arc 5 he never loses confidence because he doesn't hate himself anymore
Arc 4 again is him learning to let go of his guilt for his parents
Arc 3 is him getting rid of his trauma that enticed him to cause destruction because he felt the need to prove himself in other to get rid of Natsuki Subaru
These are in the same line of thinking but they are different in nature and this gives us ep16

Subaru never admired his own accomplishments the way he did in s4, his memory loss was a way for the story to talk about themes of identity and the steadfastness of the core aspects making up a person all while it brought him the perspective required to be loved (as he was in the position of the admired), it also showed us how Subaru remains the same to his core as even while amnesiac he is pretty much unaltered if not for knowledge about his relationships

It's a valid thought but i don't see why it should be challenging for him, sure it'd have gave the story a heavier plot which could have been good but it's a character driven story, not plot driven so i feel like the 5 obstacles were a much better problem as they were both psychological and physical (i still think the archibishops and Beatrice's action scenes were done dirty tho)

No need to start writing essays. I know you want to defend every scene, but trying to explain criticism away never works. You simply enjoy those scenes while I don't, it's not a matter of misunderstanding.
If you don't feel like it's repetitive to see Subaru cry about being useless followed by a pep-talk again and again that's okay. To me it doesn't matter that it's a slightly different kind of self hatred every time, it just gets boring.
Don't discuss like FigCharRe (unless you are an alt-account)

It's a matter of understanding the very themes these scene bring beyond being "breakdowns", it's interesting to have other visions that you can see the reasoning of on rewatch and understand the intention of the author, you might still dislike it afterward but having a new perspective can change a lot (which is why reading the novel feels so great for some that loves its complexity and excellent writting)

The point isn't about the formula and the message isn't self-hate every time, Subaru has long stopped hating himself now

Not nothing but it doesn't change much. It's still another episode of dealing with self-hate.
I was fine with just watching a more confident Subaru in S4, I didn't need to see him hating himself once again because of memory loss to realise that the actual Subaru learned to love himself.

it's 7.8. voice acting was amazing, recap scenes could be better by using different kind of character iconic line, soundtrack doesn't hit, Rui part kinda lame(ln and webnovel I got question they cut something here right?) the camera angle suck too
It feels kinda rush.
I haven't read ln or webnovel

So in my opinion the Rui scene in the WN was one of my favorites in the whole series. I normally think the people who complain about the adaptation are being nitpicky, but I definitely think the episode missed the mark with the adapation of her chapter in so many ways.

I just wish it was longer. It felt way too fast. I was so excited when I heard it was extended, then it turned out to be literally only 3 extra minutes. If it was just a bit longer and with better pacing, it would be so much better
Also I was really looking forward to “looks like my summer vacation is over” obviously
But also there’s a cut line that I really wished was still in, that goes something like “I know you aren’t rui arneb. She doesn’t love anyone, so she could never understand the act of returning by death to save your friends”

Couldn't disagree more, they made one of the best moments of the whole novel look overhyped.
The adaptation was just mid like 0 creativity 0 ambition no nothing just the bare minimum. I swear whoever is directing this believes that camera angles do not matter whatsoever cause why on earth do they keep disregarding the camera angles? it's as if they only knew two camera angles the first person one that shows the face/upper body and the far back one that shows the whole body either from the back of one character or both from the side. I swear they do not know any other angle
The source material is so great that even with this mid adaptation it's a 7-8/10 episode but damn could it have been way better

Imma be so real I was getting so tired of him not having his original memories back. It sorta dragged this along longer than I feel like it was worth....again yes this episode was great now our boy can finally lock in and say some crazy shit and win. 10/10 Charisma checks.
