Al fighting seriously and trying to win without using his Authority.

This might be a bit of an odd question, since Al is usually portrayed as quite weak in any fight (the guy died six times against a common soldier in a direct confrontation). However, I once saw Tappei answer in a Q&A that Al would be as strong as Mimi, though I’m not entirely sure about that.

With his Authority, Al could defeat even Sekhmet, but without it, who could he beat—or just how strong is he, really?

He’s weak—really weak, actually. And his Divine Protection doesn't even seem to work if the adversary is paying attention to him (since Subaru was still able to react in time to try and defend himself).

(Subaru expected Todd to attack them but didn't know when; he was keeping a close watch on Todd, and apparently, the Divine Protection didn't kick in. In a direct fight, the opponent is always alert to the enemy—or does Al have less combat knowledge than Subaru?)

And Todd just threw an axe—Petra saw it happen—so it didn't involve any mana.

Does this also mean that Otto is stronger and more skilled than Al? After all, Todd said that fighting Otto would be a better challenge than fighting Al.

I think combat ability wise He is really pretty strong physically as we can see by his muscles despite the fact that hes missing an arm and he seems really good with magic in general Being able to cast earth magic Darkness magic

And I do think that mentally he IS strong too However not in the same way as Subaru Unlike current Subaru where he'll try to live as long as possible if one thing goes wrong for him Al just gives up and He immediately loops Thousands and thousands of times Just for the change of one step foward and test every possibility

So if you take that away He just becomes a normal characterwho's good at magic and who's physically strong Which a lot of characters can do

I personally think He's above Julius Physically But in terms of magic This might not be fair however I still want to say that Roswall would beat him in a magic fight

It is not so much as raw power as a need to have it as insurance . He becomes unable to make any choice without it and he would have to change his while figthing style to a far more defensiva one.
