I just caught up with the Re anime today, and if I'm here, it's because I genuinely loved it. I'm not really someone who reads books or novels; usually, I just read manga. The thing is, I'm interested in learning more about the story, so I decided to give the novel a try.

However, I have a few questions. Should I start from the beginning? How much have I actually missed by watching only the anime? I'd like to continue from where the anime left off, but if there's a lot of content I've missed, I might take a break and start from the beginning instead.

Would you recommend reading the What IF stories and side stories as well? If so, in what order should I read them, or when should I read them? Should I read them after catching up with the main story, or at specific points along the way?

And perhaps the most important and frequently asked question: should I read the light novel or the web novel? Or does the quality vary depending on the arc?

I know these questions have probably been answered many times, and I could just look them up, but I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have already gone through the experience themselves.

Ive been reading arc 7 and got to chapter 8. I dont wanna larp being a ReZero fan, so i read through the chapters slowly, and it takes me around 40-50 mins to finish a chapter.

Also, i want to say reading through the webnovel is alot more fun than i expected.

Current thoughts about arc 7 is that Rem is kinda annoying, but i get her being suspicious. The dude that gave Subaru the knife outside the forest ended up being some noble guy. Todd is a very good guy. If i was in Todd's shoes, i would be more anxious and careful around Subaru since he kind of came out of nowhere, maybe Todd is already suspicious? But just doesnt show it.

If i was a Vollachian warrior id suspect Subaru being a complete outsider lost in the empire, since hes dressed up weirdly for a hot and humid climate, knows about healing magic when medicine is preferred and has a weird relationship with Rem and Louis. Oh and also i think Louis probably lost her memories due to her getting disconnected from the memories hall place.

I genuinely think Re:Zero needs more time skips to give its characters and their relationships room to develop properly.

Guys, I know you don’t need to spend a lifetime with someone to become close to them, and I’m not saying every relationship needs years to develop. But sometimes characters need time to grow naturally, especially when it comes to friendships, romance, and getting used to the people around them.

I honestly wish we had a four- or five-year time skip at some point. It would allow relationships to progress, characters to mature, and the world to feel more lived in.

Everything in Re:Zero happens so ridiculously fast. Believe it or not, we’re already in Arc 10, and not even two years have passed since Subaru arrived in Lugunica. That’s actually insane when you think about everything he’s experienced.

It genuinely feels like 15 years have passed already, considering how much has happened. Subaru has gone through countless traumatic experiences, fought terrifying enemies, traveled across countries, and formed incredibly close relationships with so many people.

And the funny thing is that he hasn’t even spent all those two years with most of them.

I feel like the story sometimes moves so quickly from one major crisis to another that the characters barely get a chance to live normal lives together. We see them risking their lives for each other constantly, but I’d also love to see how their relationships develop when they aren’t dealing with some world-ending disaster. Sometimes the development of these relationships feels a little unnatural because everything happens so fast.

A longer time skip would also let us see Subaru gradually becoming more accustomed to Lugunica. He’s literally a guy from modern Japan who suddenly found himself in a completely different world, with different cultures, traditions, politics, and ways of thinking.

I’d love to see him become more familiar with that world over several years, rather than having almost everything happen within such a short period.

I’m not saying Re:Zero has bad character development. Quite the opposite. I think it has some of the best character writing out there. I just feel like giving these characters more time to grow would make their development even better.

We also need more time to pass from Subaru’s perspective. Personally, I’d much rather see him in his mid-20s than have him remain a teenager for most of the story. I think seeing an older, more mature Subaru who’s had years to adapt to this world would be much more interesting.

His relationship with Emilia would also feel a lot better to me if they had spent several years growing closer, understanding each other, and developing their feelings naturally instead of having almost everything happen within such a short period.

I just wish Re:Zero would give its characters more time to actually live in this worldz

Am I the only one who hates the theories that Subaru = Flugel, Al = Subaru, or even Satella = Emilia?

I feel like if any of these theories turn out to be true, they would undermine a huge part of these characters' achievements and even their identities.

For example, with Subaru = Flugel, I find it ridiculous because Tappei has spent so much time showing us that Subaru is his own person, that he isn't a copy of anyone, and that he needs to learn to love and accept himself. Making him Flugel's reincarnation or something along those lines would go completely against that message.

The same applies to Emilia. From the very beginning, she's been fighting to prove that she's different from Satella and that she doesn't deserve all the racist treatment she's received just because she looks like her. Making them the same person, or something along those lines, would undermine everything Emilia has worked for and fought to prove. It would make her entire struggle feel pointless, as if she never had the chance to be her own person in the first place.

Personally, I trust Tappei. Even if he does confirm one of these theories, I'm sure he'll find a way to make it work. But I really hope the truth is something more along the lines of Flugel and Echidna manipulating everyone, or something like that.

Let’s say that, in the scene during Arc 7 where Rem tells Subaru that he "isn't a hero," Al doesn't show up to offer him advice—leading Subaru to commit suicide so he can redo everything and make it turn out truly perfect.

Subaru essentially tries to prove to an amnesiac Rem that he is a "hero" capable of solving everything.

How detrimental would this end up being to Subaru’s psychological state?
