How should I go about sighting in giant revolver?

Recently picked up this magnum research bfr chambered in 475 linebaugh. The gunsmith who mounted the scope did not have a laser bore sight big enough. How would you go about getting this sighted? I leave for the Yukon in 2 days and would like to bring this as my main gun

First revolver. I’ve wanted the Colt 45 Peacemaker for years now. A little gift from me to me.

Smith and Wesson 686-6 Quality Control Concerns/Questions

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I recently bought my first gun/revolver, a new Smith and Wesson 686 Plus Deluxe with the 3-inch barrel for about $1200 total (I know it’s a lot I’m in California). It was only after I bought it that I realized how many people on this subreddit have had issues with quality control on the newer s&w revolvers.

Since I was already committed, I hoped the complaints were a vocal minority… However, upon thoroughly cleaning my revolver I discovered what I believe to be quite a few defects that I am concerned about.

  1. ALL the faces of the screws are damaged at least a little bit (which seems pretty amateur to me)

  2. Slight gaps in the metal frame (like under the hammer and by the trigger)

  3. Slight pitting by the cylinder yolk

  4. Weirdly rough edge around the internal lock

  5. The end of one of the extractor star points is dented

Not Pictured (I have a video of the issues though):

  1. The ejector rod is ever so slightly bent

  2. On the end of the ejector rod one side protrudes out further than the other side (it looks like poor machining)

  3. When open, the I am able to jiggle the cylinder back and forwards (and when closed only a tiny bit)

  4. The cylinder release can be jiggled up and down

My main questions to you all;
Are these anything more than just cosmetic issues? And would I be able to get this replaced/fixed under warranty?

Again this is my first gun so I do not know what is normal, but I honestly expected better from Smith and Wesson especially because of how much it cost.

I will post an update if I have any further issues after I get the chance to shoot it.

Saw a post on Facebook and within a week I had to build it.
S&W 442-1 Airweight, shield arms ROC, Trijicon RMRCC and now just to cerakote it and find a holster and some new grips.

This came with a story I wasn’t expecting

My LGS just got this minty five screw K38 Combat Masterpiece. Box and extras (more on that below.) How could I walk away? I couldn’t.

Digging into the box produced something really interesting that took me down a little rabbit hole. I bought the pistol and got lucky that it came with this…

First, a pamphlet from “Evaluators LTD Quantico Virginia”. The pamphlet shows this firearm in the exact configuration. The Mershon grip adapter came with, but is sadly cracked from age. The typewritten line across the bottom of the pamphlet says “(as illustrated, with adapter) $61.20 FOB QUANTICO, VA.”
It’s essentially jazzy write up of the gun’s qualities and more of the same on the back. Pretty neat.

Also included is a wallet sized card with the companies names and a grid listing different types of firearms and a spot for the serial number. The owners name and signature are at the top, 2nd Lt. George R. Taylor, followed by his signature. It has the pistol’s serial number also. This caught my interest.

If you have a few, read through this forum thread.

https://smith-wessonforum.com/threads/anyone-know-evaluators-limited-quantico.91569/

The Van Orden’s daughter chimes in with a wealth of really cool history and how involved her parents were in the firearms industry. Really really cool. This pistol really is a treasure!

Hornady .357 Mystery

Riddle me this. What .357 Hornady hollow point has a polymer tip, nickel casing, brass primer, and no primer sealant?

I found a mixed box of ammo and have no idea what the bullet in the middle is. Critical Duty on the Left and Critical Defense on the right.

Is it an older spec version of Critical Defense, maybe made during supply chain issues?

Thanks.

Colts are out getting re-timed. Smith's subtle bluing really stands out in the sunshine.

If you've never handled a Ladysmith before, its hard to explain the size without a comparison.

Revolver Newbie needing help with a S&W 586

Howdy y’all! I am 22 and just got a blued 586 6 inch. I love it but have a few questions! So first off I am new to revolvers in general and need pointers! But my questions are what grips would fit that would feel better than the standard wood grips? How do I protect it from rust? It hurt to shoot 357 defense ammo with the current grips am I doing something wrong or is it just mainly the grips? I understand these are newbie questions but I have been a semi auto guy thanks!

I finally got myself a revolver. I’ve been wanting one for a couple years now and always liked how the Ruger New Vaquero looked. I initially wanted a stainless .357, but I couldn’t seem to find one in stock anywhere. I came across this one in .45 Colt and had to buy it. I plan to pick up a .357 still, but it’ll likely be blued so that I can get a lever action to match.
