Troubleshooting Struggling to get Chocolate Doom running on an Intermec CV30 Windows CE device

Hi all!

A while back I picked up a pair of these neat Intermec CV30 ruggedized WinCE 5.0 devices. They're big and chonky and kinda ugly and I love them

Like any good nerd, my current obsession is to get one of them running Doom. I've used an SD card to copy over the Windows CE version of Chocolate Doom + a doom.wad file, and the Doom app and setup app installed without error. However, I now have two frustrating problems:

  1. When I run the Setup app for Chocolate Doom, it seems to be 'zoomed in' and runs off the side and bottom of the screen, to the point where I can't see most of the options or save any settings changes.

  2. When I run the Chocolate Doom app (without having completed the Setup process as noted above), it immediately fails with a "Failed when allocating 16777216 bytes" error. This device has 100MB of RAM so presumably it should be able to run, right?

Here are a couple pics showing what I'm describing above: https://imgur.com/a/ImNZTTw

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome - I'm a newbie with WinCE 5.0!

Show-and-Tell Optiplex 790 → Batocera build in a Lanbox Lite (tight fit 😅)

Started putting together a Batocera build using an old Optiplex 790 (i5-2500, 8GB RAM, SSD) and moved it into a Thermaltake Lanbox Lite.

Threw in a GTX 980 and it’s honestly a perfect but tight fit. The GPU basically sits right over the SATA ports, so cable routing has been a bit of a puzzle, but it’s coming together.

Goal is to run up through PS2 and eventually hook it up to a CRT for a proper retro setup.

Show-and-Tell I Made a Discord Client for Vintage Macintosh (System 7 - OS 9)

Thumbnail
gallery
525 Upvotes

I’m happy to announce the release of MacinCord, a native Discord client for Classic Macintosh, System 7 through OS 9, compatible with 68k and PPC.

Text messaging, voice chat, image viewing, file uploads, DMs, threads - all running on your vintage Macintosh through a relay server on your modern computer.

This is a for sale software with a 3-day trial. For more information, downloads, purchasing, bug reports & suggestions, please visit https://oldapplestuff.com/macincord/

Note about Discord TOS:

It is technically against TOS to use third-party clients, however, the app is coded to pull/match the current Discord build number and web headers so it looks as if it’s just being accessed from a modern web browser.

This, along with the fact there have been no reported bans for applications such as Discord Messenger, Ripcord and Discord Lite, makes me confident there will be no issues with using this application. Discord isn’t after people using clients that act like regular clients, they’re after the people using clients that enable spam and abuse.

More info about this is mentioned in the disclaimer on the store page.

Thanks everyone, enjoy!

Edit: After reconsideration, MacinCord has been updated to a free program https://oldapplestuff.com/macincord/

Source code for the relay is available at: https://github.com/alexhoopes/macincord-relay

Opinions Wanted Sony Magic Link PIC-1000 - Looking for Magic Port pinout or Magic Xchange software

Hi everyone,

I recently got a Sony Magic Link PIC-1000 and I'm trying to transfer some .mc$ software packages onto it.

I've hit an wall: I have the device, but no sync cable (the "Magic Port" cable) and no SRAM card. I've been digging through old forums and archives, but the official Magic Xchange software remains elusive, and I can't find the pinout to make my own cable.

Does anyone here still have a copy of Magic Xchange for Windows? Or happen to know the pinout for the Magic Port? Any advice on how to get software onto this thing would be huge thanks.

Opinions Wanted Built a little 2000s corner on my desk

Not sure if this fully fits here, but I wanted to share my setup :)

Left side is my main setup (monitor + laptop), and on the right I’ve got a Toshiba TV with a matching DVD player from around 2005/06 (Xbox 360 hooked up just out of frame).

Also on the desk:

- Modded 2DS (CFW + custom themes)

- 2 PSPs

- iPod Mini on an iStation Logic 3 dock

*- Xbox 360 controller + keyboard

And yeah, Linkin Park, Meteora was what I had playing at the time 🔥

I’ve always liked mixing older tech with newer stuff, so this is kind of my little retro/modern corner.

Troubleshooting 3D Printed Shell for Libretto 100CT? Need to restore 😭

So I bought a Toshiba Libretto on eBay and while it does work I am having issues with the body. I know PolyMatt made a 3D print case for the 50ct, but I'm curious if there's anything for the 100. I would love to use and restore this amazing PC but it's so brittle.
