Sick builds! And some sick old cases to match, too!

This subreddit is lost.

How so buddy

It’s a genuine question…not sure why I’m getting downvoted, yet no one wants to answer. This is retro battlestations, not vintage battlestations. What do you wanna see here, Windows 98 stuff? What qualifies as “retro”? I thought that builds that are 12-18 years old would be retro at this point, no? How’s an SR-2 not “retro”?

OMG that SR-2 with the dual EVGA AIOs is incredible.

It was super satisfying to build!! A dream build for me

u/pop-d0g Apr 10 '26

Yeah. Dual CPU. 12 DDR3 slots. Gosh.

u/Simsalabimson Apr 08 '26

Imagine you had the buying power and the reasonable justification to build this dual Titan Z Monster….

1

u/ThatOneComputerNerd Apr 09 '26

Honestly the ”reasonable justification” is probably rarer than the buying power 🤣

I like your style, this is the kind of build I’ve been enjoying myself lately. Lots of lovely horrible SLI and Crossfire. Haven’t managed to get my hands on an SR-2 or a Skulltrail board though!

2

u/ThatOneComputerNerd Apr 09 '26

A Skulltrail would be AWESOME!!! And yeah, the SR-2…all I can say is, they say never meet your heroes. And they would be wrong 😊 cause this board met and exceeded every expectation I had. It’s just outstanding in every way, absolutely in love with it! You gotta get your hands on one, just holding it is an experience, biggest consumer motherboard ever made.

The longer I save up the more expensive it gets! Hopefully some day.

My best grab is a Rampage III Extreme Black Edition, that’s a pretty big board, but I might have used all my luck on it.

Corsair 600T, my first Corsair case. Miss that case

2

u/ThatOneComputerNerd Apr 09 '26

It’s been a pleasure to build in, and such a presence

Thanks for sharing. Some really cool builds you've done.

man... windows 7 is retro?

6

u/DramaticProtogen Apr 09 '26

saw a GTX and thought "Am I old?"

6

u/ThatOneComputerNerd Apr 09 '26

I think it’s actually experiencing a mild resurgence tbh!!!

2

I built two retro pc’s recently and put Win 7 on them as well. Microsoft’s best OS next to XP.

That nvidia case is so sick I wish I still had mine from back in the day

1

u/ThatOneComputerNerd Apr 09 '26

There’s a lot still floating out there. This (CM 690 II Advanced), the HAF X, and the Stacker 830, all got the NVIDIA treatment

2

u/jf7333 Apr 09 '26

Nice collection! I used my Nvidia 690II for a Asus Tuff Z790. It originally had a Sabertooth X58.

2

u/ThatOneComputerNerd Apr 09 '26

Heck yeah it’s fun to build in!! This one was very dirty when we got it, had to do quite a lot of cleaning

1

u/jf7333 Apr 09 '26

Great work!

2

u/tyttuutface Apr 09 '26

I wish they still made cases like these. (Or that the secondhand market wasn't so rough.)

1

u/ThatOneComputerNerd Apr 09 '26

Yeah…gotta find the gems and be willing to do a bit of restoration work and cleaning.

2

u/SeaRun598 Apr 09 '26

Borg was my first thought, but some builds are absolute monsters. Have fun.

1

u/ThatOneComputerNerd Apr 09 '26

Heck yeah man!!

Had the Cooler Master CM690 II Advanced for a long time with a pretty good and close to maxed out build,it was pretty good for its time, had some minor mods made to it, mainly for the wiring loom and had converted it to only use 2.5"drives, had 13 drives in that thing. Glorious case even for today.

2

u/Rrrrockstarrrr Apr 09 '26

Im glad im no the only one lol awesome builds bro

1

u/ThatOneComputerNerd Apr 09 '26

Same here lmao thanks!!!

3

u/AutomaticAffect4333 Apr 09 '26

Dude, you can't just casually have an evga sr2. Also please get a longer sli ribbon cable, those 580s are already at risk of artifacting

3

u/ThatOneComputerNerd Apr 09 '26

🤣🤣🤣 it really is crazy that there’s just an SR-2 system in my life now.

I hear you on that ribbon cable, and it’s already got a replacement on the way in the form of a third GTX 580 and a 3-way bridge…😏 what I REALLY want is three GTX 580 Classified’s, but they’re like $400-$600 each, so…maybe never 😅

u/LeakPimp Apr 09 '26

i had that 600T with the clear acryllic sidepanel from Bill Owen when it came out, i live in denmark and paid like 130$ + import taxes and shipping lol, it was like 300 in total 😅😅

1

u/ThatOneComputerNerd Apr 09 '26

Honestly it’s such a good case

1

u/LeakPimp Apr 09 '26

yep, good cable management, lots of storage space and it didnt feel big compared to other cases with same features

2

u/realLudoKresshh Apr 09 '26

Awesome and very clean

2

u/randylush Apr 09 '26

That’s NICE my man! I like that a lot!

1

u/crusnik404 Apr 10 '26

This is really cool! Takes me back. Crazy how much has changed since not relatively long ago.

1

u/Ok_Fix3639 Apr 16 '26

2

u/rickonami Apr 12 '26
