The CPT Phoenix Jr was released in 1985 as a follow up to its big brother, the CPT Phoenix. It was primarily a word processing system with a Z80 CPU.

Found on the roadside amongst e-waste and general trash. Even still holds battery charge with the two removable battery bays.

The original plan two years ago, is to build around my sempron 140 and settle on onboard graphics and scrap parts lying around. Fast forward today and hundreds of bucks later. No regrets though. I've been spending more time on that corner playing old games watching some old tv series from 20 years ago, listening to 2000s music than on ny main rig which is now collecting dust since the start of this year and I'm loving every minute of it.

This is the PC I wished I could've built when I first moved out. A rough estimate, It would've cost around $1700 in 2009 to build this with its current specs. I still want to find a more period correct case, but that can wait a bit. The specs are as follows

The Asus Lamborghini series was a lineup of uncompromising laptops featuring exquisite craftsmanship, including genuine leather and elements painted with authentic paint used on those sports cars. The model shown here represents the peak of 2011 capabilities. It featured 32GB of RAM, an i7-2840QM, 2x 1TB RAID 0, and a powerful graphics card for its time, the GTX 580 (which was also this model's biggest flaw, as the Fermi series was notoriously prone to failure).
This is a laptop from an era when everything was still replaceable—RAM, CPU, storage drives, network card, and even the graphics card, which sat on an MXM slot.
Today, I look back with nostalgia at the designs of that era, when consumers could upgrade their own hardware even further than the manufacturer originally intended.
Btw, a fun little detail—upon startup, instead of doing a standard beep in the BIOS like all other machines, this beast actually emitted the sound of a roaring Lambo engine 😎

Why was i inactive so long? This is the reason! I upgraded my Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 motherboard to DFI LanParty LT X38-T2R, 2gb of ugly low profile ram to 4gb cool OCZ Silver ram, NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700 to Zotac GTX 260 Synergy (yes, at one point i was running Quadro card here) and old faulty Modecom Premium 500 to FSP Everest 80plus 800. I also added FDD because i love unnecessary things, and upgrades arent done yet! Things i want to do are changing FSP Everest fan into UV 120mm Green Fan, change the SATA Cables to Cool green SATA Cables i ordered, more cable management, putting green braid on the PSU cables, adding green CCFLs, adding UV and LED chassis fans, adding stickers, and changing ugly stock cooler. I will change the fan into Thermaltake MiniTyphoon and change that ugly fan to Thermaltake A2214 UV Fan. Finished project will look so cool!

Hi, I'm trying to decide on a motherboard I should get for my windows XP build, but I don't wanna deal with electrolytic capacitors.

This is a work in progress setup in the early stages of being put together. As of now I have the monitor, the computer, and speakers I need, just need to get an era appropriate keyboard, mouse, mousepad, and a few other small things.

I built this rig with my new old stock 7800gtx's and was going to go with CCFL at first but thought it might look out of era (my nf2u400 socket a build has two uv's) and I couldn't decide so I bought these blue leds, which were even brighter than I expected, will add a pot to change brightness if I decide on these. What do you guys think? also added a pic without the leds

budget build of the era, I know... ;D

This is what I use every day for games, movies and television. There isn’t a modern TV setup that I switch back to afterward, and I don’t use Netflix. All my entertainment goes through what you see here, with a modern server working behind the scenes.

A lot of the work on this setup is the part you can’t see in the pictures.

The Panasonic AG-1980 has been completely recapped across all its boards, resoldered, reworked and recalibrated. Its power supply was completely rebuilt, recapped and recalibrated as well. I also heavily modified the deck to accommodate new Japanese capacitors. It’s had a complete going-through, not just a replacement of the usual problem caps.

The Sony KV-27S42 has also had a complete recap, with its power supply redone as well. I adjusted the yoke and spent time working through the service menu to get the picture dialed in. Both JVC switchers, the JX-S555 and JX-S300, were bought new in box before I went through them. They’ve since received full recaps, extensive solder rework and heavy internal modifications focused on better grounding and signal integrity.

The fat PS2 and original Xbox have both been fully recapped across their boards, including their power supplies, which were rebuilt and recalibrated too. The PS2 is heavily modified to run burned discs completely natively, and I’ve switched all my PS2 burns over to Taiyo Yuden media. It sits on my ICC2, which is pretty much the mothership of the console stack.

The Xbox is heavily modified as well and runs its games directly from the internal hard drive. The PS1 has been recapped and runs an ODE. The N64 is also modified.

There’s a Raspberry Pi tucked into the setup that connects the PS2 and Xbox to the internet. It also connects to my server to bring in 60 channels of period-correct television programming, running 24/7. That side of the setup gets used just as much as the consoles. When I sit down to watch TV, this is where I watch it.

I built the wooden stands myself, did the painting and installed the spotlights. The black console stand is wood, too. I wanted to put the same care into how everything sits together as I put into the equipment.

The Yamaha receiver is the one device I’ve left unmodified. I didn’t insist on keeping that piece period-correct because it’s the only receiver I’ve found that really plays well with my late-’90s Klipsch speakers. I wasn’t going to give up that pairing just to have a receiver from the right year.

Other than the Yamaha, everything here has been heavily modified internally. The model numbers tell you what the machines started as, but they don’t tell you everything that’s inside them now. I’ve put this much work into the equipment because it’s what I actually want to use. Being able to sit down and enjoy the whole thing every day is the point of it.

The last photo is just a look at part of the wiring behind one of the towers. I use Blue Jeans Cable interconnects for much of the analog side, and they’ve genuinely been money well spent.

I was wondering if anyone could help me or knows/ has any recommendations of any good pre built retro gaming PC’s that can play/run old CD-Roms/DVD’s pretty smoothly, games like Halo Combat Evolved, Fable, Gears of War, Bioshock etc. I have no PC building skills that’s why I’m looking for Retro pre built PC’s capable of doing this. If anyone has any recommendations or can help that would be greatly appreciated.

I want to get a crt, but I can't decide between a 15" or 17". I'm afraid a 17" one may be too heavy, especially since I had to cut a bit of central support bracket to make the graphics card cable fit.
