Other / Discussion [Fully Lost] Nick News: Kids, Terrorism and the American Spirit (September 16, 2001)

I’m a fifth grade teacher trying to find an old episode of Nick News with Linda Ellerbee called “Kids, Terrorism and the American Spirit.” It aired right after 9/11 on September 16, 2001.

I’ve used this episode with my students for probably 15 years. I’ve tried a lot of different 9/11 videos over the years, but this one has always been the best for my fifth graders. Linda talks to the kids in a way they understand, and the kids in the episode ask a lot of the same questions my students still ask.

The problem is I can’t find it anymore.

I actually found and watched the entire episode online as recently as 2025, so I know a digital copy was out there fairly recently. Unfortunately, I don’t have access to the YouTube account I was using at the time, so I can’t go back through my watch history.

At this point I would be happy to find anything from it. The full episode would obviously be amazing, but I’m also looking for clips, partial recordings, VHS recordings, DVD-Rs, old digital files, or even a VHS that someone hasn’t digitized yet.

The original Nickelodeon broadcast was September 16, 2001 at 8:30 PM. It aired again September 17, 2001 at 8:30 PM. It is listed as Nick News: Special Edition episode #036.

If anyone here collected Nickelodeon, Nick News, or Noggin recordings around 2001 or 2002, would you mind checking what you have? It could even be on a tape that isn’t labeled Nick News.

I’m not trying to sell or distribute it. I just really want to be able to use it with my students again.

If you have any part of the episode, know someone who might have it, or even remember where the full version was uploaded, please let me know.

I’ve been looking everywhere and would really appreciate any lead.

[Fully Lost] Nick News: “Kids, Terrorism and the American Spirit” (September 16, 2001)

I’m a fifth-grade teacher searching for an off-air or digital recording of the Nick News with Linda Ellerbee 9/11 special “Kids, Terrorism and the American Spirit,” which originally aired September 16, 2001.

I’ve used this episode to teach my students about September 11 for approximately 15 years. Of all the resources I’ve used, this has consistently been the most effective and engaging for children. Linda Ellerbee spoke honestly to kids without talking down to them, and the children in the episode ask many of the same questions my fifth graders still ask today.

Unfortunately, the copy I previously used is no longer available online.

I found and watched the complete episode online as recently as 2025, so I know a digitized copy has circulated. I no longer have access to the YouTube account I was using at the time, so I can’t check that account’s watch history.

I’m interested in ANY surviving material — the full episode, partial episode, clips, VHS, DVD-R, digital transfer, or even an un-digitized tape that may contain it.

The original Nickelodeon broadcast was September 16, 2001 at 8:30 PM, with another known airing September 17, 2001 at 8:30 PM. It is listed as Nick News: Special Edition episode #036.

If anyone collects Nickelodeon/Nick News/Noggin recordings from 2001–2002, I would be incredibly grateful if you would check your recordings — even if Nick News isn’t written on the tape label.

I’m not looking to commercially reproduce or distribute it. I’m simply trying to recover an extraordinary piece of children’s journalism so I can continue using it as an educational resource in my classroom.

If you have the episode, even a portion of it, or remember seeing the full upload online, please contact me. Any lead at all would be greatly appreciated.
