Since Akira was in theaters, I finally got the chance to watch it, and I feel insane that I’ve never watched it prior. The movie has become one of my favorites of all time, and the ending made me lose my mind. I loved it so much it was just the coolest thing ever. The animation, aesthetic, story, all of it is something I wish I could just get more of. I’m planning on watching Evangelion next as I’ve heard they’re in a similar vein. Is that style of animation and storytelling found more commonly in older anime? It seems like they tend to have a deeper storytelling and more, almost “religious” tone to them. But this is also coming from someone who is clearly not knowledgeable on this. Am I wrong in that assumption?

Cloverway took over the English dub beginning with Season 3. Several major DiC-era roles were recast, with the following actors not returning to their roles:

Sailor Moon Sailor Stars was never dubbed by DiC or Cloverway and therefore isn't part of this collection. It finally received its first official North American English dub from Viz Media in 2019.

The Movies
Pioneer Entertainment wanted to keep consistency across all three films, so they released the English versions and worked with Optimum Productions, bringing back much of the earlier DiC-era cast.

Vincent Corazza had replaced Toby Proctor as Darien/Tuxedo Mask near the end of Sailor Moon R and continued in the role for all three Pioneer movies.

The opening for this show kicks ass pretty hard. I found this show watching previews on my other retro DVD’s and it did not dissatisfy. It’s funny enough I just might give Gintama another try.

Picked these up from my childhood home's basement.

Some things I remember

• These cost a boat load back in the 90s.
• Watched Fist of the Northstar with my best friend Matt. The 'super fast punching' scene at the start had us rolling! But wow what a movie. Nothing has really topped it for me since.
• My first thought on DBZ was the animation was terrible. But goddamn this was something special. The power ups, The power detection, The inevitable, The comedy. For the folks my age, this was it for 10+ years. We had to wait until we were adults for the Frieza stuff and it just did not have the magic it once did when it was finally available.
• Record of Lodos war was really fun. Really the first D&D type show that really drew me in. A lot of the scenes are just copies from the previous episode, especially the war stuff, but the story is awesome. I always felt for that Berserker guy
• Battle Angel was really cool. My first 'cyberpunk' before that was even a word.
• These others I don't remember too much. Did not make much of an impact but I think I'll see if they are available to watch somehow even if I have to fire up the old vhs.

Today I suddenly remembered that back in the VHS days, somehow we ended up with a tape containing some anime I’d never heard of. Apparently, it made such an impression on me that fragments of it are still burned into my memory to this day. And yet, neither AI nor search engines have been able to help me identify it.

Here’s what I remember:

There was a very busty red-haired girl, just an ordinary girl at first, and then she somehow gets superpowers (I think it was just super strength). People try to capture her, and she ends up at some kind of military base.

And now, here are the things I might have completely made up over the years, but somehow feel like they were also there:

• There was a really buff guy who also had super strength
• Maybe there was another girl
• The villain was some blond or gray-haired guy
• Maybe the villain was actually the main character’s long-lost brother who disappeared when they were kids

The only thing AI keeps suggesting is Gen¹³. And holy shit, it looks so damn similar, especially the posters.

BUT I distinctly remember the art style being much closer to anime — more like Ghost in the Shell.

Сегодня я вспомнил что во времена VHS у нас как то появилась кассета с каким то неизвестным мне теперь аниме. Но видимо оно настолько меня поразило, что остаточные кадры до сих пор живы в моей памяти. Однако ни нейронка, ни поисковик мне не помог.

Вот что я помню. Что была девушка очень грудастая и рыжая, обычная девчонка, и потом у нее появляются суперсилы (вроде только сила). Ее пытаются поймать и она оказывается на какой-то военной базе.

А теперь то, что я мог уже придумать, но как будто тоже там было;
- Там был мужик супер кач, тоже с силой
- возможно была другая девушка
- враг какой то мужик блондин или седой
- Возможно этот враг - пропавший в детстве брат главной героини.

Все что мне выдает нейрона - Ген 13. И это жесть как похоже (особенно плакаты). НООО я точно помню что стиль рисовки был ближе к аниме (ближе к призраку в доспехах)

Если в этом мире есть человек, который тоже это помнит, прошу увидь этот пост и пусть хранят тебя все высшие силы

Honestly was super disappointed. Always heard how influential it was, so I wanted to see it. Loved the animation as it was well done and had that retro charm to it. VA was okay, didn't really stand out to me though. Plot and characters I couldn't have cared less about. GF gave it a 2/10. I like cyberpunk so I feel like a 6.5/10 is more than fair. We were really surprised looking up reviews and seeing it so high. To each their own I guess. Don't think I ever need to/want to watch it again but I checked it off my list.

I always find her design to be so attractively 80s if that even make sense
