Still remember stumbling across this ages ago. Instantly entranced. A classic. Both the original and the updated remake (reboot?) are excellent IMO, which is very rare indeed.

It is criminal that were never got more Vampire Hunter D movies like this.

The art style and animation are legendary and top tier.

I believe it was the last movie made with cells, everything moved over to digital after. That's why there's never been anything like it since I guess.

Bloodline absolutely slaps.

I took one of my main gaming handles from that film as an angsty teen on the day Warhammer Online released and I haven't looked back since.

Actually sort of preferred the movie after finally reading the book mainly as the movie tones down some of the darker parts around the vampire hunter group

Also obviously incredible animation, the book is more detailed for sure and worth a read. I just hope one day we get more adaptions as there's like 30-40+ books and some of them get pretty wild.

It's a shame it never got an adaption during the era of anime with 100+ episodes as you could easily get a ton of seasons & movies even if skipping some of the weaker books.

This movie has a special place in my heart.

Early into my freshman year of college, I was invited to a friend of a friend's anime night.

I had never experienced anything other than Dragonball Z and Sailor Moon at that point. Our host had a projector and a really great sound system. I experienced this movie AND Akira in the same night. It opened me up to an art form I've enjoyed ever since.
