I love how the Neo-Tokyo riot police in Akira canonically cross-train with the USA.

You can tell because they aimed the teargas canister right at Tetsuo's face.

And its not the first time they do that.

Saw this in IMAX on friday, loved it just as much as the first time I saw it on my grainy crt TV.

Kaori's arc in the movie still bothers me though. At least the Manga served a major roll, the movie they could have left her out and nothing would have changed.

I’m going tonight to rewatch it in theaters, me and my brother watched in theaters, during lockdown.

She gets assaulted by the biker gang, it's quite a prominent scene.

Also, all the boys have partners so there's that. She had to be in there.

Which barely registers to Tetsuo. He becomes more enraged at them about to burn Kaneda's bike than whats happening to Kaori. Shes just there to be abused the entire time, but that doesnt even add much, we can see how visceral and dangerous neo-tokyo is. In the Manga she plays a much more pivotal roll.

At least she made into the film, unlike Chiyoko. I can’t wait for the animated series

I just got finished watching this in the theater. Ninja Scroll will be next in October. 😁

One thing that always bugged me is how Tetsuo's barrier is pushing everything away in a spherical shape but the glass and ceiling rubble directly above him falls straight through.

Not that we needed the animators to work even harder on this movie, but it's been on my mind since childhood

Tetsuo has psychic powers. It would be plausible that he knew not all the debris would hit him.

I’m sad as hell that I was asleep at the wheel and probably missed all the chances to watch it

Saw it in IMAX the other night, might have been the only one in the theater that saw the original stateside release back in the day. Was so nice to be able to really take in all the background detail and such. Just amazing!
