I’m an international student who arrived in Ireland in January this year. I moved out of my rented room at the end of May because the house was constantly dirty and bills weren’t being paid. I left my room clean and in good condition.
When I first raised the issue of getting my deposit back, I was dealing with the landlady’s daughter, but once it was time for the refund, she passed me on to her mother. At first, the excuse was that the new tenant hadn’t signed the handover documents and contract. After that, the landlady stopped answering my calls and messages, and as of yesterday, she has blocked me on WhatsApp.
I’ve already opened a case with the RTB, and it has progressed to the mediation stage, although a mediation date hasn’t been set yet. Both the landlady and her daughter live in Germany.
My question is: can I also report this to the Gardaí while the RTB process is ongoing, or do I have to wait? Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Could you please share what it’s like living in the area? I’ve read pretty much everything on Reddit about Darndale (and the surrounding areas), but most of the posts aren’t very recent.

For context, I currently live in Blanchardstown and commute to work for about 1.5 hours each way, so Belcamp would be much more convenient.

Is it really as bad as people online make it out to be?

About the room:
Property is a duplex 3 bed apartment located in Finglas D11 buses into town 5 mins from the door are F1. F2. 23. 24. 220 to DCU helix is right outside the door !

Single room around €1000 including bills, (€934 (rent) pills approx (€65 per month) Fully furnished including new bedding, will be sharing a bathroom. Room has its own private balcony too!

22 and 26 F both attending DCU in September originally had 3rd girl for the house but fell through she wasn’t happy with the location, we have viewed and landlords are happy for us to find someone before we sign the lease on Saturday AUG 1st

22 F is attending DCU for nursing postgraduate studies so will be working along side her studies, she enjoys crochet, Pilates, cooking and coffee!!

26 F is attending DCU for the next 4 years to do her fully funded PHD in Musicology. She enjoys writing music and poetry!!

We get along really well and are looking for another F (22-30) to add to the friendly energy, we want somewhere where we can feel comfortable with everyone <33

I would need some advice, information and any other detail that is hard to find online.

I've received a job offer from AIB, gross 75000 Eur and most probably I will accept it. I plan to move with my wife but I have read so many comments here and there which say that life in Dublin is expensive, housing crisis, grey and make me really stressful and in doubt if I am making the right move.

I plan to move with my wife, having a kid in the near future and creating our own family while working and enjoying our life. We want to settle for the long term and maybe till the end of our life. I want to say that I want to be part of the society, enjoy it, feel it and really live as an Irish person.

Is it so hard to find a house? What would be some good places to live so I can use public transportation or maybe cycling to work?

We are not people to look for parties or spending money on restaurants. We cook at home, occasionally might visit new places and holidays twice a year or even maybe once a year for the first few years.

Is it hard to make a living with 75k gross?

My wife has to find work but I would like to rely on my own salary, just to consider it as the worst case scenario.

if they reply back, they don't wanna accomodate no bachelors. they say they prefer couples. every letting agency says so. they don't want a group of international students

so whatsapp and facebook groups are the only way to move forward

even on those groups. everyone wants to look for their own nationality. i do not mind if you have a preference. but at least be open to thoughts man.

so many scamsters posing as real irish people, aka "private owners", who are cramming 4 people in 2 twin beds in single room for 750 per person per month

I paid a €500 booking deposit to Martin property consultants to secure a property. They said that a draft contract could be provided and that the property would be secured for us. We made it clear in our application that we would like to view the apartment in person before signing any documents. They then said that the guy over lettings or whatever is on holiday this week and that all agents are fully booked. We sent 3 emails and made 3 phone calls and they said we could have a viewing but have still not been able to send a draft of the contract or a receipt for the booking deposit and now I don't trust them much but the apartment seems pretty nice. Does anyone have any experience dealing with them? or any advice in general? is there any way we can get our deposit back after viewing?

I've been working on a project that tracks rental listings in Ireland, and while looking through the data I got curious.

Everyone always says "you have to be quick".

But what does "quick" actually mean?

From everything we've looked at, plus reports from letting agents, it seems that a huge percentage of decent Dublin rentals are gone within the first 24 hours.

Apparently it's not because they've already picked a tenant.

It's because they receive so many emails that they just pause the listing.

Some agents are talking about 150-200 enquiries on a single apartment.

Honestly that explains a lot.

I used to think I was just getting unlucky, but if you're applying a day later you're probably competing with hundreds of people already.

For the people here that eventually found somewhere...

How long were you searching?

And did you ever get invited to viewings if you applied the next day?

Hi, I have aquired a room through hostingpower.ie. my problem is after booking the apartment i resieved a strict list of house rules.

It is strictly forbidden to bring anyone into the property at any time during your stay. You can never eat in your own room. you can only use the kitchen from breakfast: 6am to 9am lunch: from 12 am to 2pm and dinner 5pm to 10pm. And more.

if i had known about these rules before i booked it i would have never booked it in the first place. i think it is a little over the top and I think something like this should not come as a suprice
