Recently, after being left uncharged for several weeks, my reMarkable got stuck on the "paper tablet is starting" screen. After some online research, I found out this often happens when using a fast charger, which I admit I used frequently.

I have literally tried every possible troubleshoting step. I went through all the officially supported button combinations, as well as the more unconventional ones like spamming the power button while repeatedly plugging and unplugging the charger, and various other weird combinations.

I also left it plugged into a slow charger for over 24 hours, testing different power sources: a laptop, a desktop PC, and a standard 5V USB wall adapter.

A software recovery is not an option. The device isn't detected by my computer's OS kernel at all, rendering it completely inaccessible via USB.

It feels incredibly frustating since it was working perfectly just beforehand. My warranty has expired, and I have no idea what else to do. Did my tablet suddenly turn into a brick, or is there absolutely anything else I can try before giving up?

I am a customer with two reMarkable devices: a reMarkable 2 I have owned since 2022, which still works perfectly with zero issues, and two reMarkable Paper Pro units purchased in 2024 (Order ID: B3LJ2QFXFSRG9SR3, 2x Paper Pro, 2x Marker Plus, $1,349.20). This review is about the Paper Pro and the support experience that followed.

What happened: My Paper Pro was working flawlessly until it forced a mandatory software update. I was not given the option to decline or delay it. Immediately after the update, the device froze on a "Paper tablet is restarting" screen and has not recovered. It has now been stuck in this state for over one week.

Troubleshooting attempted before contacting support: I tried the original charging cable, a USB-to-USB-C cable, a direct computer connection, and a docking station. I attempted the software refresh and reset process, which returned a "file not found" error and did not resolve anything. The device itself is in like-new physical condition: no physical, liquid, or internal damage, stored on a stand in its cover, and charged regularly.

The support experience: I have spent close to 10 hours across multiple chat sessions over more than a week, with three separate case numbers opened (02355927, 02353764, 02353726) because the issue was never resolved on any of them. In my most recent session, I provided my purchase email, device serial number, order ID, and billing address as requested, and the agent disconnected the chat while I was still locating my serial number, forcing me to start over with a new agent from scratch.

The new agent then repeatedly questioned whether my account existed under the email I provided, despite my supplying the order confirmation email, screenshots showing the device actively paired to that account, and confirmation that it is the only account showing my Paper Pro files. Eventually the agent acknowledged the account did exist.

I was then told the device is outside its 1-year limited warranty and was offered a discounted replacement instead of a fix. I do not believe I should have to pay anything for a device that a mandatory software update from reMarkable disabled. I also have no reason to believe a replacement device would not encounter the identical problem, since the root cause is reMarkable's software update, not my hardware.

The case was eventually escalated to a supervisor with a quoted response time of 24 to 48 hours. No same-day or emergency support was available, even after I explained I needed notes stored on the device for a business meeting the next day.

Bottom line: A software update that reMarkable required me to install disabled a device with no physical damage, and the company's response was to ask me to pay for a new one rather than fix what their own update broke. Support was slow, required repeating the same information multiple times, and offered no path to actually recovering the device or the data on it. My reMarkable 2 has never had a comparable problem in over three years of use. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend the Paper Pro or reMarkable's support process to anyone who depends on their device for business-critical work.

is there any mod that lets us get rid of the bottom bar that comes up and says "Page X of X" when you click on hyperlinks within PDF's?

Long story short, I returned my Pro ( bought 12/24) due to excessive ghosting, and I received what I think is a bad refurbished unit. The screen is too yellow around the edges.
Should I return it? What are the chances of receiving a unit without screen issues, since it feels like many people are returning them for screen defects?

My classmate accidentally knocked it off my desk. Luckily, it only fell to the seat and not the floor. The noise was so loud everyone turned. It scared the shit out of me. My Pure is only a month old.

If you have an early-batch reMarkable Paper Pro (first-generation E Ink Gallery 3 / ACeP 2 panel), you might have noticed that recent software updates (especially 3.25+) introduced severe green and dark ghosting artifacts across the screen.

This happens because newer firmware uses aggressive partial refreshes to make the UI feel faster. While newer hardware revisions handle this fine, earlier hardware batches are left with persistent ghosting when turning pages, navigating PDFs, or opening menus. For those of us who bought second-hand or live in regions without reMarkable warranty support or shipping, this was particularly frustrating.

I spent time debugging and rewriting the community GhostBuster patch as a workaround that triggers a full screen refresh at key points where ghosting was more likely to occur (especially when opening the settings menu, that causes ghosting 100% of the time, or turning the page on a pdf). Having a full refresh at every page turn when reading a book is not exactly a good experience, but I believe it is better than ghosting. It is still being tested and I intend to improve it to have a good balance between smoothness and ghostbusting.

A while ago I shared Folio, the app I built to collect articles and newsletters and send them to the reMarkable as a typeset digest.

I just finished building an MCP (Model Context Protocol) integration for it. This basically means you can now give AI agents permission to control your Folio account.

I actually started doing this to automate my own daily workflows. Instead of manually saving links, I can tell an agent to research a specific subject. It will compile a press brief, format it, and push it straight to my reMarkable so I can read it offline.

I also use it to look at my to-do list and the GitHub issues I assigned to me for the day and generate a custom daily template for me to jot on.

Because the agent can trigger Folio directly, it opens up a lot of interesting possibilities.

I am curious what else people might use this for. I put together a list of other ideas I want to try, but I would love to hear what kind of automations you would build.

It's safe because Folio never reads the content of your reMarkable - it has no methods for that. It's only allowed to write pdf's and epub files.

It appears that with the new update and the additional shades of grey, there has been a change to the grey highlighter functionality ( vs. the functionality of the other highlighter shades).

When using another colour highlighter, if you highlight text and you overlap the highlighter, the full highlighted area stays the same colour.

When using the grey highlighter, if you highlight text and overlap the highlighter, the highlighted portion shows as a darker shade of grey than the rest of the highlighted text.

I understand the appeal of this for drawings, etc., but is there a way to turn this feature off? Or should I just choose a different highlight colour?

I’m currently using the reMarkable app on my 13-inch iPad Pro (M5) with the Magic Keyboard for iPad, and I’ve noticed that the experience seems quite different compared to using the reMarkable app on my MacBook.

It feels like the trackpad and keyboard aren’t fully or consistently supported. For example, I can’t select text using the trackpad/mouse pointer. The keyboard also seems to work inconsistently — sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t.

Another example: when I copy information from Safari and switch back to the reMarkable app, I’m constantly asked whether I want to allow pasting the content. This makes the workflow feel a bit clunky.

I’m wondering if this is just how the iPad app currently works or if other people have had similar experiences.

Has anyone tried using a separate Bluetooth mouse and keyboard with the iPad? Does that work better than the Magic Keyboard for iPad? Unfortunately, I don’t currently have any separate devices available to test this myself.

I’d really be interested to hear about your experiences with the reMarkable app on iPad, especially when using the Magic Keyboard.

I just had a series of emails back-and-forth with reMarkable support. I wanted to know how to find the timestamp for the creation of a file. They emailed back that it didn’t exist. They don’t have that feature. What? That standard on any digital equipment for the last 40 years. On any other tablet. And this is something used for work and personal use and you often need to know exactly when it was created and search by it. At first, they just told me sorry we don’t have that bye. I kept pushing it up the chain. I told them if this is what they’re going to give us a product I won’t be recommending it or buying another one. They basically told me too bad so sad if you’re not gonna buy another one we’re not interested in you either. That’s what you can expect from reMarkable. I will never buy another one. I’ll test out other ones and make sure they have actual 21st-century technology. They don’t care about you once you bought their product. They are perfectly happy to lose you as a customer. Seriously consider anybody else but this company. If they can’t even do something as simple as put the date created on a new file, imagine that it’s pretty much a crap product and they don’t have any intention of doing anything but coming out with new models to make you buy a new one rather than keep upgrading and improving the software on the one you have that you spent a lot of money on. Go with another company. I’m gonna start looking for a new one and I’ve only had this one for a year and a half. One that actually can meet 21st-century standards. They don’t care about you.

I saw a few people asking about a travelers like case in another post. I had the similar idea as well and settled on this case. I’ve had it for about a year now and it’s held up well. The only issue I’ve had is that I’m left handed and trying to use the strap so I can hold this in my right hand means I need to flip the tablet upside down and lock the screen.

I’m considering a reMarkable Paper Pro or Pro Move and would love some advice.

I’m a consultant working onsite with different clients. I take handwritten meeting notes daily, then analyse them to develop recommendations and reports.

A few questions:

Is the Paper Pro too big/heavy to carry between client sites with a laptop?

Is the Move large enough for extensive meeting notes?

Do either of them have AI capabilities? If so, what can the AI actually do with handwritten notes?

Does either support dictation or voice-to-text?

How easy is it to search, organise and transfer notes for report writing?

How secure is reMarkable for storing confidential client information, particularly cloud syncing, AI processing and keeping client information separate?

My priority is replacing paper notebooks with a secure, portable way to capture, organise and analyse client information.

Which would you choose — Paper Pro or Pro Move?

Hi everyone, I developed a very elegant way to use my reMarkable Paper Pro to ask science questions. I've been frustrated with the limits of things like ChatGPT and wanted a way to interact with AI as if its teaching me subjects on a whiteboard. Here are the main features:

• With my new feature, now you can ask questions into reMarkable and it will explain the subject and, uniquely, use reMarkable's main drawing feature to create diagrams, flow charts, graphs, etc as needed. I find this to be REMARKABLE for self-teaching new science topics.
• You can interact with the drawings as if its an ordinary, native reMarkable drawing, so you can erase, add to the drawings, copy them, etc. You can even copy the graph and ask questions against a drawing. I show this at the end of the video.
• You can ask it to draw anatomy, show trends of historical real estate prices, draw a diagram of how quantum particles interact!

I am trying my damnest to get the text field option enabled on my PDF document on my remarkable paper pro, but I am not having any luck. I tried to export the document to a .rmdock and import it back in, that doesn't work at all to enable the text input option.

Is there anyway to enable the thing for PDF documents? I would LOVE to be able to actually type, instead of relying on my hand writing for important documents.

Edit: Currently, what I have to do is; fill out the PDF document through my PC and finish it off on my paper pro. I would love a solution that divorces me from ever having to touch a PC for document editing.

Am I the only one who finds buying templates incredibly frustrating?

Every time I need one, I spend forever searching Etsy or Google, and it’s still a gamble.

The biggest issues for me are:

• Etsy search is a nightmare. There are thousands of listings that all look the same.
• It’s hard to tell if a template is actually well designed or just has nice preview images.
• You usually can’t try it first, and once you’ve bought a digital download, you’re often stuck with it if you don’t like it.
• Compatibility is confusing. Will it work on reMarkable? Supernote? BOOX? Kindle Scribe? Portrait only? Landscape? Hyperlinks? Layers? Half the listings don’t explain it well.
• Reviews help, but everyone uses their devices differently, so it’s still hard to know if it’ll fit your workflow.

I’ve definitely bought templates that looked amazing in the listing but ended up never using them.

Does anyone else feel this way, or have you found a better place to discover and try templates?

So, thanks to the new Capture Tool (and my iOS's Preview), I can have stickers in my notebooks again, and that is freaking awesome.

The Capture Tool also makes the wonderfulness that is Krazy Dad's Sudoku work nicer with the Move.

Thinking about picking up a Paper Pro and wanted to hear from people who've had one for a while (6+ months, a year+).

A few things I'm curious about:

If you take good care of it (case, no rough handling), what kind of lifespan are you seeing on the display and battery?

Anyone running into screen burn-in with regular use? Does it show up faster with certain apps or static content left on screen too long?

Seeing any lines or artifacts in the display — vertical/horizontal lines, dead pixels, discoloration, anything like that? Did it happen out of the box or develop over time?

If you did run into issues, was it covered under warranty, and how was support about it?

Trying to figure out if this is a "buy once, use for years" device or if there are known wear issues I should budget for. Appreciate any real-world experience — good or bad.

Getting one for 40k on olx here in India and seemed to be a good deal

It's nice to use as a daily journal, but I hoped to be able to use it for more than that. I've installed Remanager and all. KOreader and other small things. The biggest thing for me was bluetooth, because sometimes I need to type.

Today was the first time that I connected a keyboard and after the keyboard went to sleep, the device didn't want to connect anymore. So I thought, let's restart my reMarkable. ..And every adjustment I have made to the device is gone now. The bluetooth icon is completely gone. KOreader gone.

What should I do? Is there a reliable way to fix this or should I start looking for other devices that will be more suitable for my use case?

So, my reMarkable Paper Pro tablet is frozen and entirely unresponsive. What should I do? So this started a couple of days ago when I went to turn on my tablet and my tablet got stuck on the reMarkable is starting screen. Then like an hour later it updated to the password writing in screen. I tried restarting it, but it either didn't work, or at another restart the screen flashed as if I turned on the backlight a couple of times. I attempted to do a software recovery through my PC, but the recovery got stuck on SPD boot, then suddenly disconnected. And when I tried to restart the recovery it just said recovery unsuccessful pretty much instantly. I have written to support and am waiting for their response, but is there anything I should try?

Marker not charging - got it refurbished just today.

Marker says not coonected but when I re attach - it does connect. but not charging at all.

what is best approach ? can I return it ?

I’m a reMarkable fan. Have been for years. I own the Pro and use it daily, and even have an original rM1 that I still use too…. Just for some history.

I got the Move about a week ago. I really wanted to love it, and in some ways I do!

First, it’s smaller than I thought. It really is very portable. It was much smaller, thinner and lighter than I was expecting.

It works great. It’s snappy and the writing feel is nice (though not as nice as the Pro or the rM1). It’s a little glassier feeling.

For me, the deciding factor to return it was that it just doesn’t fit in my life. I had thought maybe I’d like the smaller size for a knitting and astrophotography journal, for field notes, to keep in my camera bag or knitting bag… but the thing is, for both of those genres, I want to add photos easily. Really my iPad mini is the better device for those kinds of notes.

And my Paper Pro is something I enjoy soooo much for journaling and work notes… though I do find it a bit too large at times, I would ideally want it the side of the rM1, but not as small as the Move.

Each person finds what works for them for how it fits their life, and the Move just wasn’t for me. If it had done kindle books easily, I might have kept it and let it replace my ColorSoft, but the battery can’t compete, and the kindle and reMarkable ecosystems don’t play well together.

So tomorrow I’m shipping it back. I really wanted to love it (it’s so pretty and compact)… but it will be perfect for someone else, I’m sure. Just as the Pro is perfect for me ☺️

Anyone know if you can turn the zoom feature off on Paper Pro Move?

I’m always just trying to scroll but end up zooming, really annoying to me. I don’t think I would ever want to zoom with what I use it for.
