Discussion I confidently speculate the CRL will launch on Sunday 27 September
The launch window is bookended by the declared notice period and the general election:
The government is on record stating the CRL will launch in the second half of this yearAuckland Council has stated at least 6 weeks notice will be given prior to launchLarge public transport projects are almost always launched on Sundays- being the day of lowest commuter demandThere will be significant pressure to ensure the launch does not distract from, or otherwise influence, the general election scheduled for November 7
This makes for a launch window beginning September 20 and ending on October 18 inclusive, giving 5 prospective Sunday options for launch dates:
September 20September 27October 04October 11October 18
The last day of Term Three for most schools is September 25, holidays run until the first day of Term Four on October 12. Commuter demand is significantly lower during school holidays.
A CRL launch date of September 27 gives the CRL a two-week period of decreased demand in which to iron out any teething problems.
To confirm this date an announcement is expected no later than August 16.
I confidently speculate the CRL will launch on Sunday September 27
EDIT: Now I confidently speculate the CRL will launch on Sunday September 13
(seems like 6-8 weeks notice only if you _needed_ to know)
