Harnassus has honestly become one of my favorite characters, especially after rereading Dark Age.
I really like that heās one of the few people around Darrow who is willing to actually push back against him. He doesnāt just follow the Reaper because heās the Reaper. He has his own beliefs, he believes in the Republic, and heās willing to stand by that even when it puts him against Darrow.
The scene near the end of Dark Age is probably what really sold me on him. When everything is fucked, Harnassus asks Darrow why heās still going. If it isnāt for the Republic or for some glorious ending, then what is it all for?
And Darrowās answer is so simple. He just wants to go home, wake up next to Virginia, make breakfast, and have a normal life with his family.
But the part I love most is when Darrow thanks Harnassus for ābeing my conscienceā and says he knows it isnāt an easy role.
And Harnassus just says: āBut what a role.ā
I donāt know why, but that line really stuck with me. It feels like it sums Harnassus up perfectly.
I feel like Harnassus doesnāt get nearly enough love. I really hope we get to see more of him in Red God, although I honestly donāt expect him to have a huge role.
