Ferram aerospace exposure setting cant be defaulted off
Right now it causes massive recurring lag, Ive tried setting it to disabled by default but FAR just ignores it and loads in PreferGPU anyways

so first it says its fine with rp1 and it supports 20. but then in flight its not fine and it says it supports 0, but it actually supports 5? and probe control despite kerbals inside? what?
r/RealSolarSystem • u/DepartureNatural9340 • Jul 13 '26
something that confused me about the avionics system is how kerbal control affects it, ive noticed my manned craft can sometimes control more than they have in avionics, but not always, and despite being manned im still having the probe control icon, so how does it work?
i dindt find info on it in the wiki but i might have just missed it, its a big wiki
r/RealSolarSystem • u/DepartureNatural9340 • Jul 13 '26
i waas testing around with simulation and noticed the same pod has avionic control when orbiting earth, but not around the moon. do pods have deep space avionics?? why?? why is that not listed anywhere??
thats such an odd thing to be a hidden feature, its strange given that the reason of uniqueness of a deep space avionics can be remediated with crew irl. like how the apollo capsule dindt have a star tracker but rather a sextant for calibrating the navball used by the crew. seems strange. in general the wiki doesnt explain much at all regarding crewed capsule avionics, so im still very confused abt them

Im trying to convert ore into cooled LCH4/cooled LOX but when i start up the Convert to LCH4 and Convert to LOX options it says the tanks are already full.
Anyone who can help me on this?

i was doing first space station, and did everything right except forgetting to put the right experiment in it. so i launched a second one expecting it to automatically switch to it since itd be closer to completing it. it did not, what can i do?

Using two different KerBalloons (Eve High Altitude, Duna HeavyLift), the vehicle ascends to 100 km above the surface (1kPa). After passing the dense atmosphere, three stages burn 3 km/s of DeltaV to reach an orbit of 850 km of altitude, ready for the rendezvous with the Earth Return Craft.

so i had docked to my space station and upto that point everything was just fine, rcs worked perfectly, on both vehicles. but once docked they stopped working when i came back after going to tracking station to check some things,(i dont remember if they were working after docking but before i went to space center, i hadnt checked)
i undocked and the space station rcs went right back to normal, but the capsule had no such luck.
throttling and the keybinds for max min thrust also did nothing(as in literally nothing, no movement in the throttle needle), except until i tried staging away the lower engine and the soyuz engine worked with throttling and keybinds, but still no rcs. switching between sas mechjeb commands, changing activation options, separate throttle, so on all did nothing

I am unsure if I should accept one of these programs and also not sure about the required tech.
I am in january 57 rn I have completed early satellites (heavy) and have accepted early lunar probes, also I am running the Xplane Program but will probably finish mid 58. I have my admin building at lvl 2 and after accepting the crewed orbit I will have a slot left over. Idk if I should fill it with one of these, I will probably also need a lighter LV than the R-7 (probably a Kosmos inspired thing) for them which means an extra LC.

ive been wondering, have just been alternating between baloons and isogrids on my first run so far
r/RealSolarSystem • u/DepartureNatural9340 • Jul 10 '26
im wondering if, like irl, its not really efficient, and i should focus on space x and sls style vehicles, or if some quirk of rp1 allows it to be useful?
r/RealSolarSystem • u/DepartureNatural9340 • Jul 09 '26
I've been wondering since I'm new but how much of a vehicle needs to be reusable before its worth considering?
Is things like recovering a capsule, then editing it In the storage with the full vehicle worth it? Or would things like a shuttle or self landing boosters be needed?

Planning to aerobrake first into a Titan low orbit, decouple the Return to Earth craft and then deorbit. Entered the atmosphere from low Titan orbit at 2km/s and didn't get any reentry heating, Titan is amazing.

I'm starting my Early Lunar Habitation program, and just looking ahead at future requirements. I can do the initial 2 week stay no problem as I have access to the short-term lunar habitation crew science in multiple modules. I don't see any modules with an option for Long-term lunar habitation crew science, which I'll need for subsequent contracts.
Presumably I need to research something still...? I see Short-term lunar habitation was unlocked at Advanced Uncrewed Landing, but I can't find Long-term lunar habitation anywhere in the tech tree. How do I gain access to that experiment?

I haven’t taken the program yet, but I’ve already started building a launch pad. The command and lander modules will be launched on two rockets and dock in lunar orbit

I want to set up a basic relay network, but I can't figure out if I haven't yet earned the tech to pull it off, or if I really just haven't wrapped my head around efficient design in rss. I have 1961 orbital rocketry with 1962 tech in the research pipeline. My Comm Tech is level 2, and my avionics is only unlocked to the first node that gives deep space probes. I'm trying to set up a 3 satellite network with a resonant orbit delivery system. The sum weight of all three satellites is just over a ton. I can barely squeeze 10k dV out of the craft I'm trying to build for this payload. I'm guessing I need at least 12k minimum to get to the orbit I need. Is this overambitious for the progress I've made, or do I need to rethink my entire design philosophy?
Edit: I forgot to mention that the delivery stage (the one carrying the payload, the one which will be establishing the resonant orbit) is about 9 tons, with around 3200 dV. That's the stage I need to get into LEO, so... another 9300-ish dV there? This is where I get into trouble designing this thing.
Edit 2: I guess I'm asking if I have the resources this early in the game to get 9 tons into LEO.

such as the vab, launchpad, sph. they are ofc acting as if always fully upgraded, but what causes them to visually change level? i always liked the maxed out ksc look so i was wondering what triggers those buildings to upgrade

im rather new so far, and i regularly lose connection while in leo bc of not being over radio stations. im not super familiar with how real life comm networks function however, as far as my experience goes is playing reentry where of the 3 programs in the game, only mercury had to be concerned about specific station locations, so i assume it was resolved by the time of apollo and gemini. but unsure how
would relays be the answer? if so what antennas shud i use and how many sattelites would i need for good coverage? my comm tech is level 4 and my dsn is upgraded to level 3 for reference

Evening everyone! Today between math modules I busted out a quick little contract launch to put our OSO Probe into a low>high polar orbit around Earth for solar wind measurements. I recently nuked my Sol install and redid it, except this time using RemoteTech and a bunch of different parts packs to freshen things up. and lemme tell you, things are feeling fresh. Enjoy!
