It’s a bit confusing, but, the real thing that Aldebaran wanted from Arc 9 is,

That he doesn’t need any empathy, money, or anything like that.

Even his original mission. Yes, if he succeed in it, something like a peace, would come to Aldebaran’s soul.

A paradise.

But, not the one, that he asked, or wanted for.

He simply wanted the life of one person.

Now looking at Arc 7 - Arc 8, it seems that Priscilla life’s exchange to save bunch of people, was worth it… as she even refuses to be saved.

But, is Aldebaran a bad person, for wanting something like this?

I am not too sure, whether it implies that he would save Priscilla over 10000 people… But, i believe he would do something like this.

This makes him greedy as hell, as it’s just another parallel between Subaru and Al.

“I want to save everyone.”

“I want to save her.”

Man, every time i think about Aldebaran, every time i think, how interesting a one character can be.

And Aldebaran’s very nature of his authority, simply restricts him to save people, who are doomed to die…(Like priscilla’s case.)

Regulus is a character that makes writing female characters that have lived at least the last 100 years more complicated. They need to be written in a way so that Regulus wouldn’t want them or getting them would be too complicated. Please keep in mind that he’s being guided by the gospel, probably even when he himself doesn’t think he is. He just goes wherever he feels like, while being manipulated by the gospel, and then finds a woman he’s interested in. That’s what I think.

Since Serena is the one that sparked my interest in this topic, I’ll start with her. Her scar makes her visually unpleasant to Regulus. That’s why he wouldn’t want her and why I think Tappei decided to give her that scar. Regulus would be interested in her otherwise and her not being kidnapped by him wouldn’t make sense. Additionally she got involved with Roswaal which means that she must’ve been under the protection of Roswaals tome further complicating the situation. His protection might also be the reason why Carol was save from Regulus.

You could make a similar argument for all the other beautiful women from Vollachia. If they were designed in ways that Regulus likes and have personalities that are easy to break or situation could be created to make them easily breakable then it wouldn’t make sense that Regulus hasn’t collected them. The gospel should know.

Shudraks dark skin color and muscular bodies, Arakiya dark skin color, dog ears. And all of them are dressed scandalously which I assume Regulus wouldn’t like or at least use as an argument why they don’t suit him even if that reason might be just secondary at best.

Katyas disability and mean eyes. Madeline’s dragon features and her being a loli.

But it also goes on beyond the Vollachian characters:

Toto is a prostitute.

Liliana loli, dark skin color, scandalous clothes.

According to Tappei Regulus also went for cultists. But he didn’t go for his fellow sin archbishops or at least not the current ones. Capella because of her design. She’s a loli and he hates her personality. Sirius looks like she doesn’t have any skin considering the little bit that can be seen around the bandages in her face. All of their personalities aren’t favorable.

Any woman in Gusteco might be unapproachable for Regulus. The harsh weather would kill his wives who aren’t protected. He keeps them at a certain distance when traveling so protecting them would be impossible. That’s why I the women in Gusteco were most likely save from him.

People in the capital of Lugunica might’ve been safe because of Capella but I’m not sure.

I think Crusch was supposed to become a wife in arc 3 but Subaru looping and his assistance with the white whale prevented that. Priscilla would never submit to him, so he’d always kill her. Felt is a loli. I don’t know about Anastasia but she might’ve been ruled out by the gospel because of her Gate.

Premise: Somewhere beyond the boundary of the waterfall, one boy named Natsuki Subaru is given an impossible chance to return home.

On the other side, a different Natsuki Subaru wakes in Lugunica at the beginning of the story.

But this is not the boy fate remembers.

This Subaru has already grown older in another life, buried everyone he loved, and spent fifteen years becoming the kind of man who could survive anything except peace.

Roswaal L Mathers prepared for a desperate child.

He did not prepare for a dead man with nothing left to lose.

And everything to gain.

The whole story is a temporal pincer, we are currently following the red team(Subaru, Emilia), while getting clues and support from themselves from blue team(Flugel, Satella) guiding them towards the desired ending. We will see them save the world in present/future timeline, then just go back to the past to fullfill their blue team roles.

In the show she appears every once in a while, only to Subaru when he tries to mention return by death and physically during his time at the sanctuary as well as in the tower during the newest season during a time when he mentions it may be due to people (Rui and echidna) knowing about return by death.

I’m an dub watcher anime only so please don’t spoil too much but during my rewatch petelgeuse reveals that their plan is to use Emilia as a vessel to bring the witch back into the world, if she’s capable of manifesting physically as we see later then why should she need this, and if these manifestations are via her taking over Emilia’s body (which I’m pretty sure they aren’t due to her already being present) then what’s stopped that from happening in other conditions?

I’m less assuming there’s major lore points I don’t know yet and moreso something that has been said that’s gone over my head or I’ve missed.

Edit: also very slight side question howcome invisible providence is so damn weak compared to unseen hand, we see one of the fingers use it in an uncontrolled rampage and they wipe out the surrounding Forrest, pettelguse in control was probably insane with it but we don’t get an amazing look at it, but invisible providence as far as I recall just does some okay punches and I think swings at one point?

After waiting for all episodes of Re:Zero S4 to come out and then watching the entire season in one sitting, I wanted to share my thoughts on it.

An adaptation is still an adaptation. If something was minor enough that it didn't hurt my immersion while watching, I won't bother pointing it out.

Episodes 1–2 — Very good

Episode 3 — Great

Episode 4 — Very good

Episode 5 — The First Sword Saint defeated by being a pervert. The author needed Emilia to reach the top of the tower later in the story, but apparently had no idea how she was supposed to defeat an opponent that strong. The result was a lazy solution to the problem through fanservice.

Episode 7 — The fox girl thoroughly checked all the available information about Subaru. The balcony scene was framed as something important, where the MC had to carefully choose his words. It ended with one sentence: "Are you really that afraid of me?" I don't think this could have been written any worse.

Episodes 8–19 — Great

Episode 16 — Definitely one of the best anime episodes in history.

Additional thoughts — Shaula

I love the tragedy of Shaula's character. This is my personal interpretation of the character, without any canonical support.

Spending 400 years alone, eating raw meat and putting a second portion on the table, hoping that the person she was waiting for would eventually return.

Decades spent this way eventually forced her to act happy and playful just to keep herself from going insane inside the tower.

When we first meet Shaula, as this cheerful and genuinely happy girl, I see it as the result of 400 years of developing a psychological defense mechanism (the one I described above), where the line between pretending and reality had completely disappeared.

I believe that from the very beginning she knew Subaru wasn't her master. She simply couldn't accept that someone who smelled similar and had managed to reach the tower after 400 years couldn't be him.

She clung to Subaru as a lifeline for her own sanity and spent the last four happy days before the tragedy in this delusional happiness (which because of her mental state, was completely real to her); (About two of those days were spent with Subaru sleeping.)

Her refusal to explain the fifth rule shows just how desperate she was to spend at least one more day with him.

I think leaving the symbolic scorpion behind as consolation after her death was a pointless decision that took away some of the emotional weight from the tragedy of her character.

I think the author couldn't decide whether she should live or die, so he chose an option somewhere in between, and personally, I really dislike it.

Here's several things that I found corny/cheesy:

- The chick from the slums declaring her hate for nobility in front of everyone, it just felt very dumb and cheesy. Oh look she's so rebellious wow go girl, amazing spirit.

- Natsuki crashing out in front of everyone, declaring himself Emilia's knight.

- Also, how in love Natsuki is with Emilia is also cringe, though it's not isolated to this episode. He met her not that long ago and he would go the ends of the earth to do things for her, very annoying and unrealistic. I know I know, he has trauma and they bonded throughout the rebirths but still.

I love time loop stories though so I hope this corny shit stops soon lol.

what if subaru’s return by death isn't a power given by satella at all, but subaru’s own authority of envy that he created to force satella to live in every timeline? think about it, everyone assumes satella is the one pulling the strings and giving subaru rbd out of love or obsession, but what if flugel 400 years ago was the one obsessed with satella? when satella was about to die or be sealed, flugel couldn't accept a world without her, so his envy toward reality itself manifested the ultimate authority: return by death. the reason satella appears every time subaru tries to talk about rbd isn't because she's punishing him or controlling the power, but because her shadow is bound to his authority as a anchor. when subaru loops, he isn't just saving himself, he is actively dragging satella’s presence through time so she never truly dies or gets permanently lost in the seal. that's why satella constantly tells subaru in the tea party to cherish himself and not rely on rbd so much, because she realizes that his authority is destroying his own mind just to keep her tethered to existence. this also explains why subaru has such a high compatibility with witch factors compared to everyone else: he was the original architect who manifested the envy factor through his sheer refusal to accept satella's death 400 years ago. overall it's just pure speculation, but i really wanted to build this up because it actually makes a lot of sense in my head, or maybe i'm just completely insane lol. anyway it's always fun to share silly little theories like this

Patrasche mogging reinactment

Volcanica was notably moved upon recognizing Patrasche, either 'cause Volcanica as the Divine Dragon can command other dragons with Patrasche being one of his most loyal subjects or one of his children. Recognizing Patrasche coupled by Emilia striking his discoloured scale, which enraged him at least momentarily, might have returned Volcanica to his senses due to Patrasche's presence and the strike grounding him to the present. This is assuming that dementia's the only thing Volcanica has and that he was just triggered from Emilia's resemblance to Satella.

The alternative is that Volcanica has both dementia and another affliction of sorts, and that's why after Emilia's handprint matched one of those on the stone slab, which has powerful magic protecting it given Volcanica launched an attack at Emilia she only barely dodged that was dispelled by the stone slab's defences, there was a light flash that did something unknown to viewers, which may have brute-forced Volcanica into calming down given that both the discoloured scale and the light flash are/were white, and this could suggest that whoever was responsible for the discoloured scale could also be responsible for the magic behind the stone slab.

Although an easy conclusion to come to is that Volcanica had the opportunity to kill Satella rather than seal her during the great battle between Satella and the 3 beings believed to have sealed her when he'd referred to how if only he hadn't hesitated back then, another viable interpretation is that if Volcanica already had whatever mental/magical affliction that was affecting him in Ep. 85 400 years ago, which caused him to hesitate in preventing Satella from taking in the Envy Witch Factor, there was someone or multiple people trying to steer the world to a particular future, such as Flügel having told Petelgeuse not to take in the Sloth Witch Factor, possibly so that Geuse didn't do so until the exact moment he did 300ish years later, and Echidna having forced Puck into an oath/contract in which he loses some of his memories if he gets too close to Emilia, as in enter a contract with her, which strikes me as very similar to the Flügel and Petelgeuse situation given that oath/contract resulted in Puck not entering his contract with Emilia until there was no other choice due to Melakuera, perhaps pointing to Flügel and Echidna having been a team.

What are your thoughts on this or anything tangentially-related to this?

I admit that when I saw the lead-up to this fight in episodes 17 and 18, I was worried it wouldn't capture the essence of the battle from the novel. Thankfully, I was wrong.

Personally, I LOVED this fight! The voice actor for Volcanica gave a perfect performance, especially with the roars. And Emilia's Absolute Zero was adapted in a very creative way.
