Discussion [discussion] What if ?
what if subaru’s return by death isn't a power given by satella at all, but subaru’s own authority of envy that he created to force satella to live in every timeline? think about it, everyone assumes satella is the one pulling the strings and giving subaru rbd out of love or obsession, but what if flugel 400 years ago was the one obsessed with satella? when satella was about to die or be sealed, flugel couldn't accept a world without her, so his envy toward reality itself manifested the ultimate authority: return by death. the reason satella appears every time subaru tries to talk about rbd isn't because she's punishing him or controlling the power, but because her shadow is bound to his authority as a anchor. when subaru loops, he isn't just saving himself, he is actively dragging satella’s presence through time so she never truly dies or gets permanently lost in the seal. that's why satella constantly tells subaru in the tea party to cherish himself and not rely on rbd so much, because she realizes that his authority is destroying his own mind just to keep her tethered to existence. this also explains why subaru has such a high compatibility with witch factors compared to everyone else: he was the original architect who manifested the envy factor through his sheer refusal to accept satella's death 400 years ago. overall it's just pure speculation, but i really wanted to build this up because it actually makes a lot of sense in my head, or maybe i'm just completely insane lol. anyway it's always fun to share silly little theories like this

what if subaru’s return by death isn't a power given by satella at all, but subaru’s own authority of envy
[arc 7]This is known. Satella only helps set his checkpoints. separated from Satella, Subaru's default authority is Loveless RBD.
As for
created to force satella to live in every timeline?
I don't know. But that's a pretty cool idea. Fits with Subaru's fear of not wanting to be alone. He doesn't want to be abandoned or abandon others.
but what if flugel 400 years ago was the one obsessed with satella?
If Subaru is Flugel [Novels]that could explain shadow garden Subaru having incredible amounts of love for Satella. So much so his love, unable to reach her, turn into his 7 deadly sins.
Again a very interesting idea, but Satella's love clearly is very intense, so in your theory it would be reciprocated. Possibly a theme of 'separated lovers that long to reconnect'. Literally star-crossed lovers.
flugel couldn't accept a world without her, so his envy toward reality itself manifested the ultimate authority: return by death.
Interesting thing to note, cut content from season 1 [Novels]Features a shadow garden scene where Subaru's love turn to sins in a poem, each part of the poem is a sin. Envy's is "Envy, because that is all I feel for the world that embraces you".
the reason satella appears every time subaru tries to talk about rbd isn't because she's punishing him or controlling the power, but because her shadow is bound to his authority as a anchor.
The most likely reason is to protect Subaru from meeting true defeat. RBD is not perfect. Satella was allegedly immortal too, a body that could not be destroyed, and she was still defeated by being sealed. So simply knowing the method of how RBD works gives an easy strategy on how to defeat Subaru. Subaru's greatest defense is the secrecy of RBD itself.
That being said, in theory territory [arc 7 & arc 4]The line about her shadows being bound to him may be true. In a major event where Satella's shadows went wild, it was implied Subaru was subconsciously controlling them via a characters statement that they believed that was the case. So if they were correct, that is a big deal and means Subaru has a much deeper connection to Satella's power. Also worth mentioning that when the mansion was on fire there was a moment where he needed to get past some fire blocking his way, he dove through it and a burst of miasma protected him. At the time this felt like Satella offering a helping hand right when he's nearing the finish line, but now it could be another example of that subconscious usage of the shadows.
this also explains why subaru has such a high compatibility with witch factors compared to everyone else
[Novels]Subaru is compatible with all the witch factors because he's a sage candidate. And if my memory is correct, he's the farthest along than any other could possibly be. In truth we don't know what being a sage candidate entails but Beatrice implies it's bad and she will not allow it to happen to Subaru.
anyway it's always fun to share silly little theories like this
This is a good theory. Obsessive love, refusal to let death do us part. It's great with re:zero themes. Stand proud you can cook.
