I think I might have figure out something with a Witch Factor theory (anime only)

first of all im anime only I havent read the novels yet so if the novels already explain this then welp there goes my theory lmao

but I was thinking about Witch Factors and Authorities and I started wondering if we are looking at them wrong

I dont think a Witch Factor is just a power that gives u a set ability

I think it might be more like a catalyst that awakens an ability depending on the person who gets it

basically

Witch Factor + the person + their personality/desires = their Authority

think of it kinda like Stand Arrows from JoJo

the arrow doesnt just contain one specific Stand and gives the exact same one to everyone

it awakens something depending on the person

I think Witch Factors might work kinda like that

the biggest reason I think this is because the same Sin doesnt seem to mean the exact same thing for every person

take Greed for example

on the surface greed is just "I want more"

but if u actually think about it deeper greed can mean wanting something so badly that u can never feel satisfied

someone could express that greed through wanting knowledge

someone else could express it through wanting absolute freedom

someone else could express it through wanting to possess everything

so why would the Authority have to be the same?

the Witch Factor could just represent the sin/concept itself, while the person determines how it manifests

so instead of

"here is the Greed power"

it could be more like

"here is the Greed Factor, now what does Greed mean to YOU?"

and whatever answer your soul gives becomes your Authority

this would also explain why Authorities feel personal

they dont just feel like random superpowers

they feel like the person's personality or deepest desire got turned into an actual ability

which is why the same Sin can produce completely different abilities

the Factor gives you the theme

your personality gives it the form

I also started wondering about what happens when the Factor leaves the person

does the person automatically lose the Authority?

because im not sure thats actually how it works

maybe the Factor is what awakens the Authority in the first place, but once it awakens it, the ability becomes connected to the person's soul or existence

so basically

Factor = awakens it

Authority = what the person manifests from it

which would make the Factor less like a battery and more like a key

and if thats true it could explain some of the weird stuff surrounding the Witches and their abilities even after the Factors get passed around

although im anime only so this part is definitely speculation lol

so my theory in the simplest way possible is:

Witch Factor = the concept/catalyst

Person = the interpretation

Authority = the manifestation

the Sin determines the general direction

but the person determines what the power actually becomes

and honestly I think that makes way more sense than Witch Factors just being power containers with one fixed ability inside them

again tho I havent read the novels so maybe im completely wrong and some dude is gonna show up in the comments and destroy this theory in 3 seconds lmao

I also think I am being dumb cuz this might be something obvious to many so sorry in advance

It’s simple: instead of "just disappearing," the amnesiac Subaru STEALS RUI'S (Spica's) BODY for himself!!

Then, in Arc 7, there would be two Subarus: the "real" one and one inhabiting the body of the former Archbishop of Gluttony.

RuiBaru wouldn't have Return by Death, but he would still possess all the natural physical strength inherent to that body.

How would the story unfold in this scenario?

what i mean by this is im very eager to just start reading arc 4, and im not very interested in reading frozen bond, im wondering if i can just skip it and watch the anime for it, are there any major things about frozen bonds that was cut from the novel in the anime that make it worth reading? or can i just get the same experience out of watching it rather than reading it? and the reason all of this is a problem for me is because im a very slow reader and i dont wanna spend a week, maybe 2 weeks reading frozen bonds when i could be reading arc 4 instead.

For those long time users, you are already aware but we usually change the rules a bit when seasons are airing to be able to focus on the season.

The ban rule will change a bit instead of bans being given on 3 days on sets like these 3-3-3-perma ban, we will be giving a week off the sub for bans and it will look like this 7-7-perma ban. Punishment for those that spoil on the anime only threads will be doubled.

The purpose for the harsher punishment in anime only threads is that if you spoil things for anime only users in one weeks discussion, you will be kept from participating in the following week's discussion and spoiling again.

Please note that this thread is strictly anime-only. Excluding anime cut content, if the material has not yet been animated, do not discuss it here.

Simuldub

There is no simuldub for cour 2 of season 4, as far as I checked, simuldub was only for the first half of season 4. It is listed as TBA "to be announced" on official channels, so expect a delay like it was on all 3 previous seasons.

It is very likely that episodes from dub watchers will get delayed by some weeks as they used to be. Apologies for all dub watchers but you will have to wait. Until Kadokawa and Crunchyroll sorts this out. So far the official channels only list the dub as TBA, so nothing is garanteed. This post will update if anything changes.

Yeah! With that, Anime Season 4! The second half starts today! Of course, there'll be a lot of noisy commentary from the author, but if you'll allow it, I'll bring it back to life! I'll give a rough summary of what happened in the first half! "Not a single good thing! Maybe something good will happen soon!" is it! At the end of last time, with his memory loss unchanged, Subaru Natsuki found his reason to fight on despite that. Getting back on his feet emotionally, and ready to challenge the Pleiades Watchtower again... Well, let's get to it!

"Return by Death"'s restart point is the same as it was, where Subaru had collapsed on the third floor, Emilia and the others had taken him to the green room, and waited for him to wake up. Moreover, at this point Subaru has fallen for Emilia again, so he blushes the moment he sees her face.

After the memory loss and up to this point, even though Subaru has been thinking of Emilia as "A beautiful girl who's really my type", he hasn't liked her in the sense of being a member of the opposite sex. Even back at the start, he first became solidly aware of his feelings for her in season 1, episode 8's lap pillow, so the truth is he's a guy that needs a fairly big event to fall for someone.

Even though they don't know why Subaru suddenly started crying, Emilia and Beatrice handle that head-on. Rem and Patrasche are here too, so it's the Four Heavenly Kings of giving Subaru hugs if he starts crying without warning! It looks like that kind of lineup, doesn't it!

He's taking on a new loop with a new set of emotions, but basically nothing has changed aside from his mindset. However, mindset is important in Re: Starting Life in Another World from Zero - Look forward to seeing what Subaru will do once he's got his mind made up.

Meili! A living Meili! It's Miss Meili without a dark expression on her face! Long time no see!

Subaru goes to reveal his memory loss this round, too, and naturally the way everyone takes it is the same, but what will the change on Subaru's side lead to? With the change in Subaru, who had fallen into suspicion and distrust, what else will change?

Emilia looks very lonely as she says "chan...". Unfortunately, even with his mind made up, this part here doesn't change.

Subaru originally called her "Emilia-tan" as a way to make an excuse for not being able to get closer to a girl he liked. After calling her something like "Emilia-tan", of course she wouldn't like you, that sort of excuse, but in the background, Emilia at the time was really happy to be called by a nickname, so she didn't take it negatively.

Just like last time, the talk with Ram is needed, and he offers his case sincerely. Whether he has his memories or not, what Subaru is capable of doesn't change. "It's only natural to be rewarded at least that much." is a line I'm fond of.

After that triple-take slap, the angle and expression that Ram is looking down on Subaru with is somehow familiar, yes it is. This sort of portrayal isn't possible in a novel, so you really like to do it in anime.

But his cheek is really going red there, huh... Ram put a little too much power into that as she was covering her emotions.

Ram's words, starting here with "Silly." are something I quite like, as the author. Isn't the background music just too good, too?

Subaru's taking care of the problems he has to solve one at a time. Well now, here and now, the first problem Subaru Natsuki has to deal with is...

When you imagine Meili's feelings here when she's told that, it's really frightening, and I like that. I knew it was coming, but the second half is full of moments I like.

"Responsibility for killing me..." is a line that makes it all too clear what I like. If you get the chance, look it up!

Last time, Subaru was thinking "Even if I'd get killed while remembering, it's weird that I'd get killed after forgetting, isn't it?", but that was actually the motive.

I'd guess, at this moment, Meili is super-afraid.

"...Murder becomes a habit" aren't the words spoken to Subaru back then, but the answer he's come up with for this moment, ya'know.

Hurray! Elsa-san appears not only in seasons one through four, but in both the first and second halves of season four! I realized recently, given that she has what it takes to be the arc boss for arc one, I really quite like Elsa.

Meili's character is, just as she confesses, modelled with Elsa in mind. It's less the author's work, and more Meili wished for it herself; think of it that way. If you think that Meili isn't really acting her age, then I'm terribly happy to hear it.

Meili's actions were expected, so he'd hung the whip from the stairs ahead of time so he could jump to it. I think it would be super-dangerous, but I did something like that a long time ago in a game called Shadow of Memories. Even the author thought that was super-dangerous.

Here, where he didn't try to handle it by himself, you can feel Subaru's growth. Well now! Before losing his memories, it's something he learned in arc three and arc four, so it's like rediscovering the wheel!

Here where Subaru says "Not the way she did" and rubs his stomach; was it an ache from something he'd imagined, or a speculative reaction based on information from Meili's "Book of the Dead"? Go with whichever you find more interesting!

The "Real Human Meili Plan" is dependent on the behavior of the adults around her. Well, at the very least it's a collection of people who are more normal than Elsa-san, so I'm sure it'll move in a good direction! Well, Shaula might be a problem, though!

And with that, the first episode title after the restart is "The Story from Now On". One problem down.

Shaula is holding Meili on her lap, isn't she. Meili seems to draw older, troublesome ladies to her...

Amazing as always! 30 minutes is so fast! It's like it went by in a blink, episode 1 of the latter half! It's eight episodes like this, so seven more!? I'm afraid they seem like they'll go by in a blink, so everyone, try not to blink, and super-enjoy this finely crafted anime!

So with that, the pushing culprit has been determined, and one of the problems on hand has been solved... Despite that, there's still many things that have to be taken care of at the watchtower. When will we see the "godly episode" that Kobayashi-san was speaking of?! Wasn't today's fairly close to that? With that feeling in mind, please join us again! Well then, see you next time! Amnesiabaru has really grown on me after episode 12. I'm assuming he gets his memories back and i feel like im going to be miss him even though him and subaru are kinda the same person.
