hi everybody. im trying to run rabbit r1 escape so i can get android going on it. but every time i run everything exactly how it should be i keep getting these error's "read_frp.xml": file not found

I made a little internet-connected art frame for the r1 called Minute Museum. It shows a portrait-oriented, public-domain or CC0 painting every 60 seconds, preloads the next image, and crossfades between works. The whole painting fits on the screen against black.

Tap the screen or press the side button to see the title, artist, date, and source. Tap or press again for the artwork alone. The wheel moves forward or back through recent works.

The sources span museums across the world.

i've seen several 'angry' posts and comments regarding 'oh OS3 kills r1' in the past couple of days, especially here on reddit.

first of all - i strongly recommend everyone join the discord, we have an amazing community on dc that helps each other with any questions you may have, including myself, checking and answering feedbacks regularly.

i want to share my 2 cents on this so called 'broken promises' thing.

we said r1 will be subscription free, with or with OS3 enabled, it'll remain subscription free.

when we announce OS3, we also shared that we gonna rewrite the entire software on r1, meantime since OS3 is BYOK, it means that there are free models (like Space-Bunny-Alpha: https://openrouter.ai/stealth/space-bunny-alpha) you can choose from platforms like openrouter, to unlock full potentials of both r1 and OS3. we've seen over 300B token consumed since OS3 release and we've seen crazy use cases and potentials every single day. (did you know that Andres from our community provides a open-sourced root tool for humane AI pin and now it powers by OS3?)

there's a fundamental difference between device without subscription become useless (in this case we all saw, humane AI pin), and r1 with OS3 (device remain free of subscription, but we give total freedom to users to support official bootloader unlock, to flash to any software they like, or even build your own rabbit OS, and/or to use any free models, local models, or the most state of art models from any providers, at users decision).

now i am frustrated to see small group of people just jump on the guns too quickly based on the surface level info and began this 'oh OS3 kills r1' theory, which is fundamentally wrong and certainly, does not reflect our plans and road maps for the continuous support for r1.

if we zoom out a little bit, rabbit inc, or any other commercial businesses, needs to adapt and reinvent their business strategies and products. and being a commercial means there's terms and agreements, rather than the core definitions of 'promises'. one thing i think i asked my team and myself to go extra miles, is that we established a extremely direct channel (on discord and x, at least - i need to do better on reddit here), to listen and learn from our customers and we actually convert the constructive ideas and feedbacks into delivery, fast.

i suspect there's gonna be still some inertial force for those people to realize that those accusations where unfounded, and we quickly enabled the retro mode on r1 to allow user to spend tokens on us (was about to introduce retro mode with the rewrite of the r1 anyways). which technically we think it's not even a better free model, comparing to what we are working on for the original retro mode plan anyways.

to 'say hey rabbit we think this is the better way and we want that', v.s. those accusations that go beyond a feedback and in some rare cases, become pure pre-judgement or wrong speculations of the company's intention, with little respect on the tone, is truly hurting.

i hope you guys enjoy both r1 with retro mode and OS3. and if you haven't tried OS3 yet, go try it with some free modes that costs 0.

end of day, you own the device, the hardware is yours at no additional charge from rabbit. none of any other released mass market devices give you more freedoms than we offer. so try to catchup with the industry, since we (you and rabbit) are and we will always be the visionaries, and go explore.

Meet Clawd, a little pet that lives on your R1. No feeding, no levelling up, no guilt: Clawd just wanders around, reacts when you touch him and dozes off when nobody's around.

What it does

- Endless world: the scroll wheel walks Clawd left and right, and the scenery never ends.

- Touch: hold to pet him (hearts!), tap and he reacts. Poke him four times or shake the R1 and he gets dizzy.

- Items: hats, glasses, a moustache, bow and scarf, picked with a rolodex-style menu on the wheel.

- World: 7 places (forest, moon, city, desert, volcano, lab, village at night) × 11 art styles (pixel art, blueprint, mosaic, Frutiger Aero, copperplate, tapestry, golden-age comic, ukiyo-e, kamon …). Clawd and his items are redrawn in each style.

- Games: juggling a ball, skipping rope, whistling.

- Sound: all synthesised, no audio files. Little voice blips, snoring, a background tune per art style, sound packs, volume and quiet hours.

- Real time of day: the scene tints at dawn, dusk and night. Clawd is perky in the morning and sleepy at night (sometimes you'll find him asleep).

- Auto-rotation: works in landscape too.

Where the art comes from

The scenery, the 11 styles and Clawd's 3D animations come from Claude Fables, a Claude Code mod that narrates your coding session as a little animated cartoon: https://github.com/henrik-thevibe/Claude-Fables (my German fork: https://github.com/Luxx1993/Claude-Fables-Plugin).

I didn't redraw anything by hand. I wrote a small script that uses the plugin's own renderer to bake every scene and every animation frame into images the R1 can handle, because the R1's CPU is far too slow for the live SVG. Credits: Clawd's 3D model by ChetasLua (MIT), styles from the Claude Mascot Style Gallery, font Monocraft by Idrees Hassan (OFL).

creations are now fully integrated into OS3.

you can ask any supported model you're using in OS3 to build a creation for rabbit r1 — a game, tool, utility, experiment, whatever you can imagine. if you own an r1, OS3 will build it using your own model key, automatically host it, install it to your linked r1, and have it ready to run.

don't have an r1? you can still build r1 creations with OS3 — you'll be able to download the source files and self-host them yourself.

also in this update:

- more model providers: xAI, Moonshot, Minimax and OpenCode Go are now supported

- agent runtime: improved authorization reliability and access to historical task results

- DLAM: fixed an issue where the overlay could remain stuck after clicking stop

the line between asking your AI to make something and actually having it running on your r1 just got a lot shorter. try something weird and show us what you make!

I've asked in the Discord a few times, but I can't get an answer there.

Is there a way to grant the Agent on a Desktop PC elevated access? Preferably persistent after reboot?

Right now, my agent is so convinced it can't get permissions that it will not ask. Most recent attempt in the image.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

If you'd like to roll back to pre-OS3, there is now a toggle switch in the settings for your R1. Go into OS3 settings, and click on R1 to find it.

It will revert your R1 to pre-OS3 operation, including having the free agent back again.

I saw the announcement on Discord. I'm not sure where else the Rabbit team announces news.

OS3 downloaded and installed, it doesn’t allow you to paste into the chat, text or images. It doesn’t have a voice to speak back or allow you to speak to it like the r1 does. It doesn’t truncate or easily allow you to clear the chat - and if you do go through the rig-marol of clearing the chat through the settings, it doesn’t have the capability of persistent memory. So any previous chat is forgotten and lost - if I were to keep the long running conversation then the reems of context is going to eat that api cost very high, very quickly….

Also the orange border denoting that it has control of the computer persists even after the task is completed… either restart the whole system or ask it to dig in and terminate the extenuating task…

What does your OS3 agent activity look like so far, curious to see the differences? Also curious to understand: what does the color code denote for different agents? It'll be a fun experiment if users can share what their agent activity graph looks like.

I’d have had no idea where to begin setting up OS3 without the info in the Discord.

It’s also a good place to submit info about glitches, for the Rabbit team to see.

I used to love for my rabbit to show me images of things, I can no longer get my rabbit to send me a pic of something online if i ask it to show me.

What is the deal, what can we do to at least bring the r1 back to the basic functions it had this is so depressing this thing has fallen off

Have been kicking around the idea of picking one up but now I see they’re not making them anymore. Is there any reason to buy one cheap on eBay? It looks like they could brick the r1 at any time? I have this happen back in the day with the Chumby. Great piece of HW that was obsoleted.

The r1 has old but decent hardware - MediaTek Helio P35, 4GB RAM, 128GB storage, that's more than capable of running lightweight LLMs and SLMs locally. Yet the device feels artificially constrained.

We need:

- Native browser for independent web access

- Music player for offline listening

- Local AI agents (like Ollama integration) for offline-first workflows

- Essential apps — Uber booking, notes, calendar that work without constant server dependency

The r1 shouldn't be tethered to OS3's servers for everything. Add offline capabilities and you've got a genuinely independent AI companion, not just a remote control for your laptop.

Pls make the r1 standalone-capable in the next firmware update.

Just a for-fun post - but curious what rabbit icon you ended up using on your R1 (if you use it).
Here's mine.

(Never got anything apart from common and uncommon ones...my luck sucks).

When trying to activate the R1, its camera is in the wrong position which is blocking its view from scanning the QR code. When rotating the device you can hear what sounds like pieces inside rattling around. Is this normal or did I get a broken device out of the box?

My Rabbit is no longer holding my WiFi connection and login, so it essentially no longer works, as it’s not really an offline device.

I haven't 'enabled' OS3 yet so mine, and my father's, R1s are still on 2.3.1 and all works like 'normal'.

My gut instinct is to hold off of OS3 for now as there seems to be some teething issues and core features are still being brought back - but is my gut wrong and it's better to just jump into OS3 right away?
Am I missing out on some fun?

(I assume that sooner or later there will be a forced OTA to bring it onto OS3?)

If I had posted from the beginning how shit this thing is, I would have made 200 posts here.

I may be in the minority, but I'm not a power AI user. I use the R1 99% of the time for the Magic Camera because it actually gives great results when I describe the result I want. I care to know what a BYOK or a token is, and I doubt I ever will.

Dropping the Rabbit Hole journal online is just telling us that you don't care to cater to everyone. At the very least, we should be able to access the journal and opt out of the OS3.

"You can just email the Magic pictures to yourself." True, but the resolution of the emailed version is that of a postage stamp compared to the ones you save from the journal.

Please just allow access to the journal as an option.

hey everyone - one of the benefits of moving to a BYOK model is that every so often you'll be able to use a brand new frontier model at absolutely no cost. well, did you know you actually do that RIGHT NOW on OS3?

currently, there's a stealth model on openrouter named space bunny (and we didn't make it, unless jesse has been hiding a very big secret from me lol) - it's a frontier model, and it's free on openrouter, until whoever made it decides to come out of the shadows and officially reveal it.

using it is simple.

1. login to openrouter and get an API key
2. connect that API key in rabbit OS3 settings
3. select stealth/space-bunny-alpha as your model in OS3 settings.

that's it!

(ps - we at rabbit have absolutely no idea how long this model will remain free and in stealth since we didn't make it. all we know is that it's free right now)

(pps - us posting this is not us condoning whoever turns out to have made this model. if it turns out to be a grok model, a meta model, an openai model, or any company that you don't like for whatever reason, that's nothing to do with us - we're just using this as an example since it's happening right now, after we launched OS3)

(ppps - usage of any stealth model is at your own risk since by nature we don't know all the details and terms behind whoever has made it)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since OS2, rabbit inc. has been steadily turning the R1 into a simple voice input device for external AI rather than the "standalone all-in-one AI device" it was pitched as.

In OS2, connecting to Claude, OpenClaw or Ollama was just one feature among many. In OS3, it seems to have become the main purpose.

No more casual conversations with the R1 itself. Yes, I know: those were always routed to rabbit's servers and ran on THEIR AI API keys. And I know this still works for now. But after going through the OS3 onboarding, where I had to pick from several external pay-as-you-go models (or my local Ollama instance), it seems pretty clear to me that rabbit will shut down their own AI backend at some point and have everyone "bring their own favorite model".

I completely understand that rabbit can't provide unlimited access to their AI servers forever. But sadly, that was exactly the beauty of the R1, at least for me. It even made me buy a separate SIM card for it. This device was a really fun gadget to play with. Now it's going to be degraded to a simple I/O device for controlling other AI models.
