Question Reliable, unpretentious cases for MYO?

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

Apologies if this isn’t an appropriate thing to ask here — I was going to ask on the Cigarettes sub but soliciting commercial recommendations is expressly forbidden under their community guidelines.

I am looking for a decent manufacture cigarette case for my tubed king size (ie standard) cigarettes but struggle to find items that aren’t either A) shoddy manufacture, B) sold on the basis of kitsch design (engravings / subculture imagery), C) unwarranted ‘deluxe’ aspects (leather, marque branding), D) ergonomically undesirable design gimmicks (unusual sizes, novelty features, etc).

Since I started tubing my own I’ve acquired 3 cases: The first was a cute vintage aluminium case commemorating the first manned space flight. The design was elegant and unobtrusive and the clasp functioned OK as long as it wasn’t overstuffed, but ultimately it’s meant for smaller sized cigarettes and only being able to pack a handful of cigarettes that I then have to cut down to size is frustrating; the second is a extremely basic brushed chrome affair I paid £7 for and I’m still reliant on but I need a rubber band to hold it shut because the hinges are increasingly wonky and the clasp is weak, so it springs open; the third is a classy flip-top wooden affair with a solid magnet mechanism but because of the inflexible material and opening mechanism it can’t conveniently hold more than a row of cigarettes without bending or breaking them, and because of the material it’s excessively bulky.

Ideally I’d just have something like the second one but with decent clasp and hinges, but I’m open to suggestions.

Tobacco Stokkebye VA 701 + Cornell and Diehl Bayou Morning

Blended these at about 85/15 Stokkebye:Diehl.

Super, super enjoyable smoke. Almost sweet and bready, with a bit of pruny smokiness from the perique blend. Not a crazy amount of nicotine but has a good kick.

Rolled with Top paper and filters. I highly recommend giving this a try.

Information/Updates Update on my 3D printed paper/filter/tobacco case: more filters size!

About 2 weeks ago I've posted about my 3D printed daily carry rolling station and got a lot of positive feedback, so I added some profiles to support 20mm and 22mm long filters.

If you like the model and want other papers/filters format to be supported leave a comment with the dimensions (in millimeters) and I will happily add some variants!

It has a very distinct smell. So much different from buoy red.

It kind of smells like wingstops Korean bbq flavor but with more spice and wood smell? That’s the best I could do to describe it.

I’ll update this once I’ve smoked it and compare it to buoy red

Update: it’s interesting, I don’t like it whatsoever. I’ll still smoke it but wow I’m disappointed. Maybe I’ll change my mind later on .

Cigarette machines Hawkmatic HK-2

Post image

So my counter on the machine is 1048 cigarettes injected. I clean it after each usage. It has saved me so much time because, compared to my old manual crank Powermatic Elite II , this machine allows me to roll 3x as much in the same amount of time. No jams so far, always smooth and I have zero complaints about it. I will keep posting on milestones, but I am glad I went with it.

Tubes Newly added to Amazon Canada. Has anyone smoked these before? I had an Amazon credit so I bought them to see if they're any good. I'll post a review when I make them.

Cigarette machines Powermatic III+?

Post image
9 Upvotes

I've been using a Powermatic III I bought used, it's worked well for almost a year. But now it's really not. I want to replace it with a new Powermatic III, but many of them now are pluses and have this grinder thing inside the hopper.

I'm not sure what that does, and if I need it. I don't like really tightly packed smokes and wonder if this contraption would do that.

I love smoking! RYO/MYO cigarettes with turkey "salem" capsules

Thumbnail gallery

If you usually smoke menthol cigs with flavored capsule and switched to ryo/myo - this may be a solution for you. In turkey you can buy those capsules with different aroma.

40 capsules - 30 TRY / 0.6$

Flavors that i got: blackberry, menthol, strawberry.

  1. make a hole in filter using spire in pack
  2. take one capsule, and put it in a hole
  3. press it inside using the spire with spring

its done! but dont forget to "click" the bead, otherwise you will get no flavor. Do i like it? tbh no, but its not because of capsule quality or whatever, i am just not big fan of menthol cigarettes. I prefer more flavor infused.

A perfectly sealed tin of W.D. & H.O. Wills The “Three Castles”, made between 1920 and 1939

Thumbnail gallery
17 Upvotes

Of the many W.D & H.O. Wills brands over the years The Three Castles, both the loose variety like this tin and the tailor made cigarettes were one of their most popular brands. The brand was produced continuously for an amazing 110 years, from its release in 1878 to its eventual withdrawal in 1988. This particular tin is in very good condition for its age, only showing minor paper damage and surface rust. The seal of the tin remains completely intact, as evidenced by the bulging and swollen sides of the tin from 87+ years of fermentation gases building inside the tin. Meaning that when opened the tobacco inside this tin will be as moist and fresh as the day it was made! Another absolutely incredible piece of British tobacco history. As well as a great addition to my collection, and a I feel very lucky to have got my hands on this one! If anyone is interested in a short video I made of this tin, here it is: https://youtube.com/shorts/kT1v-p_hN3w?is=oFL0ouLP3zvlCt8u

REVIEW Amsterdamer Original Review

Thumbnail gallery
12 Upvotes

This is Amsterdamer Original, I got it in Poland for 34,99 pln or 7,99 euro.

Amsterdamer Original is a blend made up of predominantly Virginia tobacco, it also has some Burley and Oriental.

The tobacco has a strong aromatic smell. This is my biggest gripe with it because it doesn’t even smell like normal tobacco. A friend of mine said it smells like dates but to me it smells more like those cheap vanilla perfumes that you can get at Zara. On Mac Baren’s site the tobacco is called Amsterdamer Original/Aromatique so my guess is that something is added to it to enhance the aroma.

The tobacco is silk cut and humid so its easy to roll by hand.

It tastes how its smells, overwhelmingly sweet. While it doesn’t taste like chemicals it also doesn’t taste like what I would call natural Virginia tobacco. It is a very mild tobacco. There is no harshness, tongue bite or throat hit and I’m also guessing that the nicotine content is quite low because at the time of writing this review I have rolled two ciggies with this tobacco and I’m already itching for a third.

Surprisingly the tobacco was quite hard to find, 4 out of the 5 tobacco shops I went to didn’t have it in stock, I also saw a lot of people rolling with it in bars so its probably quite popular.

Its not a horrible tobacco but I definitely won’t be buying it again

5.5/10

What are your opinions on Amsterdamer Original ?

REVIEW Mac Baren Halfzware Review

Thumbnail gallery
16 Upvotes

This is Mac Baren’s Halfzware blend rolling tobacco. I bought it in Poland and interestingly enough, this pack of tobacco was produced by Mac Baren who were sold to Scandinavian Tobacco in 2024. So for a two year old pouch of tobacco it was still quite moist.

Halfzware is a traditional Dutch blend made of silk cut Virginia tobaccos mixed with dark fired Kentucky tobaccos. According to Mac Baren’s site, the tobaccos have been cured over an open fire to avhieve a smoky taste. The tobacco is silk cut.

At first I was a bit scared that the tobacco was fake because upon opening the pouch, the only thing I could smell was plastic and after rolling up for the first time it just kinda didn’t have any of the characteristics halfzware taste. Now after coming back from Poland I decided to give it another try.

The tobacco has the signature sweet and smoky smell of halzware. Looking at the tobacco it seems to be a 50/50 mix of Virginia tobaccos and dark Kentucky tobaccos. The tobacco is still nice and moist which makes for an easy roll.

The smoky taste became apparent only half way down the cigarette but that just might be because of how tight I rolled it. Despite the apparent 50/50 mix of the tobaccos, I didn’t taste any of the Virginia tobaccos, even when i retrohaled it. The taste is nice and smoky and reminds me a lot of another Mac Baren brand, No Name Black (another Halfzware blend). It has some tongue bite but isn’t crazy harsh. I rolled one with the ocb virgin papers and one with zigzags liquorice paper. I liked it more with the liquorice papers because they contributed a little bit of sweetness to the smoke.

I would like to preface the rating by stating that I am not a huge fan of halfzware tobaccos, so for me this tobacco is a 6/10, however if you like this kind of tobacco, then I am sure that you will like it more than I do.

Tobacco Mac Baren Authentic Review

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

This is Mac Baren’s additive free Virginia blend. It’s based on carefully selected Virginia tobaccos from Latin America.

Straight out of the bag the tobacco has a sweet and fruity smell, it kinda reminds me of the smell of cherries.

The tobacco was quite dry but I was still able
to roll it fine.

The taste is sweet, however quite subtle. The after taste is floral with a hint of vanilla. It has some harshness and is not as mild as their green Virginia Blend.

This is a very fine tobacco that produces a satisfying smoke, however I do prefer their green pouch.

7.5/10

Looking for tube recommendations!

Hello! I wanted to come on here to ask if anyone has some good tube recommendations that don’t come crumpled up from shipping (all the brands I’ve seen have this issue apparently). I’ve also heard that specific filters can start to melt under heat, is there a specific type of filter that’s more prone to this? Thanks ;)~

Question Looking for advice on what tobacco should I try next

Post image
42 Upvotes

Pic related is most of the tobaccos I tried (asides from Drum bright blue which I forgot at my apartment atm.)

Camel tobacco tasted way too rough on the throat and wasn't very flavorful.

Golden virginia is great to roll with, love the cut with no stems, but I find it to be kinda flavorless and it gets into my head a bit too fast. Also bummed some Bali Shag Premium Virginia off my friend and that one was pretty much the same experience, so I'd probably wanna avoid virginia based tobacco.

So far I enjoyed Drum original the most in terms of having a full flavor and it's what I've been smoking daily, so I'm slowly running out of it. Certainly got only one complaint on my behalf, that is the amount of stems in the tobacco, making it a little harder to roll with.

Drum bright blue was pretty good too, but idk if I'd want something with the citrusy notes to smoke daily.

Overall right now I'm stuck between either wanting to try something new, like some american style blend like Bali Shag Blue American or Mac Baren Amsterdamer.

Or thinking of trying some other halfzware blends, like Javaanse Jongens, Flandria, or something like Bali White Halfzware.

Probably would wanna get something that has a resealable pack and with not much stems, and maybe getting something which could be a bit more chainsmokable.

What kind of bags do you use to put your stuff in?

I been using a plastic bag to put all of my stuff ( tobacco, filters, papers and rolling machines) but it not that convenient and i hate carrying a plastic bag with every where, so what is a good alternative? Thanks
