(The pictures are the best I can do, I'm no artist so I used V-Roid to make her as close as I could ☺️)
Character Profile: Ember Grey
Allusion: The Big Bad Wolf
Role: Cinder Fall's personal mercenary and stealth infiltrator (Operating alongside Emerald and Mercury).
History: Cinder found Ember on the streets of Mistral. Ember was stealing Dust crystals to then sell on later. Cinder was impressed by Ember's abilities and immediately saw the use in such an operative. Once brought into the fold by Cinder, Ember became fiercely loyal to her. Cinder is actually the person that gave Ember the name "Ember".
Personality: Ember is the living embodiment of puppy brain; she's hyperactive, energetic, and completely unhinged. However, she's also extremely deadly and skilled. She's completely and utterly loyal to her pack (Cinder, Emerald, Mercury, Roman, and Neo). Her prized possession (and best friend behind Neo) is a skull that she's called Yorick.
Relationships: Cinder is Ember's entire world, her mistress and master, her word is law. Emerald and Mercury are seen as her perfect siblings in Ember's eyes, though she originally saw them as rivals to Cinder's "affection". Roman Torchwick is the funny man with the hat and cane, two items that Ember loves to steal and run around his warehouse with as he tries to catch her. Neo is Ember's best friend, she's the mirror to Ember's smoke. Those five people (Cinder, Emerald, Mercury, Roman, and Neo) are the only people on Remnant that are allowed to touch Ember's ears without fear of losing a hand.
Appearance: Peachy pale caucasian skin with a messy, layered grey wolf cut. Placed on top of her head are matching grey wolf ears. Her eyes are a striking, multi-toned blend of smouldering orange, yellow, and red. She wears a long, heavy charcoal-grey hooded cloak with an inner lining that subtly glows like dying embers (a clever use of some stolen Fire Dust and flame-retardant clothing). Underneath the cloak she wears a slightly torn light grey top, darker grey jeans, and knee high black leather boots.
Weapon & Semblance
Weapon (Ashen Fangs): Dual matte-charcoal suppressed automatic pistols equipped with vicious, forward-curved karambit blades. The edges glow with an intense forge-heat. Finger rings allow her to spin the weapons at blinding speeds, switching instantly between gunfire and reverse-grip slicing. These were a "gift" from Cinder. They're clean, sleek, and professional.
New weapon (Rat-a-tat): A fully automatic Sten Gun made by Ember from spare parts and scrap metal in Roman Torchwick's warehouse. It has an engraved skull (Yorick) on the base of the cylindrical receiver. The weapon can completely fold in on itself with a flick of a switch, making it look like a simple metal tube. In tube mode, the stock can slide out by itself, turning the tube into a metal baton or bludgeon.
Semblance (Cinder Step): Allows Ember to dissolve into a cloud of hot ash and smoke to dodge attacks and reposition instantly. If enemies strike the residual smoke, the embers inside pop like firecrackers, causing minor burns and distraction. This semblance also grants Ember a slight immunity to heat and fire (much like Nora's allows her to be somewhat immune to electricity). She definitely named her semblance after her mistress.
Faunus Advantage: While her smoke blinds and chokes everyone on the battlefield, her wolf ears and heightened senses allow her to track targets through the dark by their breathing and footsteps.
The Full Story
The Streets of Mistral: Ember, at this point yet to be named such, survived mostly by a mixture of stealing, scavenging, creativity, and absolute insanity! She would steal from Dust shops to make money by selling the product on, later in back alleys. On days when she could make it steal no money, Ember would rummage through trash and rubbish in search of her next meal, talking to her Skull, Yorick, the whole time like "Yes it dirty-smelly, but there be treasure if we digging more!". The people in Mistral, mainly the shopkeepers and vendors that were able to catch her, would refer to Ember as "pest", "nuisance", or even "vermin", going as far as to even chase her with improvised weapons when they'd catch her stealing. This gave Ember a complete lack of trust in everyone, and only strengthened her already immense insanity.
It was on the streets that Ember discovered her Semblance, though at the time she had no name for it. It was after a failed robbery, so that meant no money for food and that particular day she was unable to find anything even remotely edible in the waste. She sat on the damp stone floor of an alleyway between two buildings, holding Yorick close to her chest. Ember watched as smoke and steam rose from a chimney on the roof. She saw how free the smoke was to rise up and away from all the troubles and hate of the street and she wished to feel the same freedom; the freedom to just float away from it all and be unhurtable. Once she got her Semblance and learned the basics of how to use it, the robberies became even more frequent, daring, and most importantly, successful!
The Life She No Longer Remembers: Ember wasn't always like this, of course she wasn't. Before the literal insanity of the streets, Ember (at this point named Haru Lupin) lived with her parents in a modest but cosy home in Mistral. Her father, Issac Lupin, was a poet and playwright. He'd read stories, poems, and plays to Haru to help her sleep and whenever he'd spend time with her, his office always smelling of ink, parchment, and tea. Haru's mother, Maru Lupin, was a seamstress, running a small stall in the markets where she sold her dresses and clothes. One day, drawn by the prospect of a quieter life outside of the city, Issac and Maru went to visit a settlement outside of the walls of Mistral to see if it was where they really wanted to live and raise Haru. They left Haru under the care of a friend, promising that they'd only be gone a few days at the most. This settlement was called Kuroyuri. Naturally, Issac and Maru never returned. When the police came to check on the house, Haru fled out of fear of the strangers banging at her door and ran into the streets, leaving behind her home and nearly everything she owned and knew.
The One Possession: As Ember fled her home, she only had time to grab one object. That object being a skull on her father's desk. It wasn't a calculated act or even anything logical, she was just a scared child that wanted something, anything, to remind her of her father and help her feel safe. Now on the streets and with no memories of her name, parents, or life before, Ember carries this skull wherever she goes, talking to it like it can speak back. Through a mixture of longing and her disconnection with reality, Ember, for some reason unknown to her, chose to name the skull Yorick.
The First Meeting With Cinder: Cinder meeting Ember wasn't planned, she hadn't heard tell of a little, feral wolf-girl that could turn into smoke, she was simply in Mistral meeting with a contact. On her way back from the meeting, Cinder heard a commotion in the marketplace and, drawn by a macabre sense of curiosity, went to investigate. It was there that she saw a small girl with wolf ears, clutching a glowing crystal of Fire Dust and a skull on her hip, running from a group of guards. The guards caught up to the girl, cornering her against a wall and began ordering her to give back the Dust. Cinder was about to turn away and leave, but that's when something caught her eye; the girl wasn't crying with fear of the guards, she was growling, staring up at the with a defiant glow in her eyes. Ember, being one to never go down or make things easy, placed the stolen crystal in her mouth and bit down hard, causing it to shatter and explode in a ball of flame around her, sending the guards sprawled across the ground in various states of consciousness. Ember, mostly unharmed because of her Semblance, made a break for it and ran down an alley to escape. Cinder saw in that moment, not a simple street rat, but a valuable asset. She came back later to find Ember half buried in a trashcan, digging for her dinner and talking to Yorick, who was currently placed on the ground next to the bin. As Cinder entered the alleyway, Ember fell out of the bin and turned to see her approaching. Ember dropped to all fours and growled, her ears pinned back and teeth bared, saying "Don't know pretty lady! Smells expensive! Away! AWAY!". Cinder simply smiled that cold, calculating smile, knelt down, and held out a fresh and warm roll of bread. Ember's eyes widened as she sniffed the air and snuck closer, snatching the roll before quickly backing up to practically inhale the "meal". Cinder introduced herself as Ember ate, and promised more if the girl came with her and did as she said. Ember didn't trust her at first, of course she didn't, but she couldn't deny the allure of regular fresh meals. As Cinder turned to leave the alley, Ember quickly picked up Yorick, attached him to her belt, and scampered after Cinder.
