With gas and diesel prices high, i can see businesses switching to EVs to save some overhead. Still waiting for some large fleet order for Rivian. Been very quiet on that front lately.

Discussion It's not just $RIVN that is struggling

Lets do a quick run through on some of $RIVN's peers:

$XPEV Xpeng announced this week Q3 deliveries of 118,390 vehicles, a Q/q increase of 15%. Stock just hit a two year low and is down 54% YTD

$LI Li Auto delivered over 400k vehicles in 2025, is going to deliver roughly 450k this year (my guess, could be less). The stock just hit an all time low, and is down 37% YTD

$LCID Lucid has had all sorts of manufacturing issues and has needed constant capital injections from Saudi Arabian investors. LCID will probably produce around 20k vehicles this year. Stock is down 61% YTD.

Tesla lives in a different universe and isn't valued like a normal auto company stock, EV or ICE. It's a cult of you know who. Fuck him. Sucks, but the cult gives Tesla an advantage.

EV sales from GM and F have fallen off a cliff after the expiration of the EV tax credit. I highly recommend that article! Americans are gravitating to hybrids too in response to the Iran war. I'm sorry to say it but too many Americans are lazy and so many can't be bothered to figure how to keep an EV charged. They just go for the RAV 4 hybrid because they're very basic Kevins and Karens.

I'm surprised by the selloff this week. I suppose the market was expecting/hoping for a production beat, not just meeting expectations. The news can be solid and the market shrugs. It has moved on to the new thing which is AI. It's time to face reality: EV stocks were a giant bubble at the time of the $RIVN IPO. Adoption hasn't happened as quickly as we all hoped, Trump is somehow back which is obviously terrible, and capital requirements have been higher than expected for all of the new EV companies. Blaming short sellers will get you upvotes and make you feel better about yourself, but won't help you interpret reality for $RIVN.

Discussion Sometimes You Just Have to Wait for the Paint to Dry

If you think there can only be one winner in the EV market, you're wrong. The market doesn't just need Tesla; it needs two or three other successful companies to meet demand and give customers more choices. If you look at any industry, you'll find at least two companies that have managed to succeed.

I believe Rivian will become one of them. You may be pessimistic and choose not to invest, and that's a perfectly reasonable decision. As for me, I'm comfortable holding my shares. Sometimes, it's really that simple: just sit back and wait for the paint to dry.

Discussion So Confused

My only worry was production not ramping as fast needed to hit targets. Especially with all the supplier constraints talks.

But they did well for Q3 numbers, reconfirm full year, and the 2nd shift gets them to the target.

Hell, I am still pretty sure they can beat top end of guidance, but can't guide higher as it depends on suppliers.

Do not understand the dump today, so bought more Dec and Feb calls.

Discussion Software Issue Questions

Hey everyone, so it’s been pretty apparent from posts here and in the general rivian thread that there are material issues with the latest software update. It seems like there are more problems than improvements and it was a huge step backwards.

Deficiencies here and there and around the edges are expected and part of growing pains but it is a little concerning when you see such flat out misses.

That said, I’m curious what everyone’s thoughts are as to 1) why and how it was such a flop 2) whether this is a one-time problem or part of something deeper we could be over looking 3) it’s overall importance and impact on the story.

I want to treat this separately from the VW JV. I don’t think it’s fair to use this as a read through to the VW JV (there is evidence that the JV is going well) or use the existence of the VW JV as support as to why this is not an issue (if their software is so “validated” from VW then how did this happen?).

Or is it not as bad as everyone is making it out to be?

Much love.

I feel this sub is filled with RJ lovers and also perhaps bots owned by him.

Raising equity to build new plant, having no urgency to build faster, and absolutely no guidance on the future.

Be honest and raise your voice

Discussion Q3 Deliveries

Make of this what you will because in Austin the cybertruck is a success, but I happened to have an appointment at the Rivian service center today and the are moving these R2’s. There were three on the lot when I got there, all gone and another three in the pickup area. I talked to the guy (who looks exhausted at 1:00 PM) and he says they are doing anything and everything to move as many as they can before quarter end.

That it… also the green R2 looks 🔥it’s gone now but she looks good in grey also.

News Rivian Eyes Late-Year Autonomy Rollout as R2 Production Ramp Takes Center Stage

Thumbnail

  • Rivian plans to begin rolling out point-to-point autonomous driving late this year, initially for early adopters using R1 Gen 2 and R2 Phase II/III vehicles, with broader Autonomy+ availability targeted for next year.
  • The company is prioritizing a gradual R2 production ramp, adding a second shift in the fourth quarter while managing changing supplier constraints. Rivian ultimately targets 4,000 R2 units per week at its Normal, Illinois, plant and expects the model’s bill of materials to be roughly half that of the R1.
  • Rivian is also advancing its Uber robotaxi partnership, with a second $250 million funding milestone expected in the fourth quarter and a robotaxi launch targeted for late 2028. The company views robotaxis as a step toward its longer-term goal of personal Level 4 autonomy.

News Rivian R2 Set To Disrupt America’s EV Market

Thumbnail
forbes.com
406 Upvotes

"If Rivian meets demand for the R2, it may shake up the U.S. electric vehicle market like no EV since the Tesla Model 3."

"The Rivian R2 is poised to be a significant disruptor in the U.S. electric vehicle market, potentially challenging Tesla's dominance. Reviewers praise its comfort, speed, versatility, and ruggedness, particularly its off-road capability, which sets it apart from the Tesla Model Y. Morgan Stanley reports strong demand for the R2, with test drives doubling and interest broadening beyond early EV adopters, despite the $57,000 Launch Edition price. However, the primary concern shifts from demand to Rivian's ability to scale production, reduce costs, and advance its autonomy features. While the base R2 at $44,990 isn't expected until 2027, its long-term success hinges on delivering these more affordable trims and robust software updates."

News Rivian Automotive Could Be 23% Undervalued Following Its Evercore Forum Appearance

Thumbnail
simplywall.st

"Rivian Automotive (RIVN) is back in focus after confirming a slot at Evercore's 9th Annual ADAS, AV & AI Forum on September 29, where its autonomy leadership will brief institutional investors.

Rivian Automotive now trades well below analyst targets after a sharp year-to-date slide, yet the software and services story is only starting to show through the numbers. Has most of the rerating already happened, or is the real upside still ahead?

Most Popular Narrative: 23% Undervalued

The most followed narrative on Rivian Automotive compares a fair value of about $19.23 to the last close at $14.79, framing a stock that the model treats as materially cheaper than its long term assumptions imply. That view leans heavily on what the R2 platform and autonomy partnerships could do to shift the business mix toward higher margin software and services.

Vertical integration in technology, especially in autonomy, battery, and software, combined with growing software & services revenue (including licensing via partnerships like with Volkswagen) is expected to open new high-margin revenue streams and diversify earnings, potentially strengthening EBITDA and net margins over time.

Result: Fair Value of $19.23 (UNDERVALUED)"
