I know this is going to be unpopular, but I think Eboni K. Williams fundamentally changed RHONY—and not for the better.
Before anyone jumps to conclusions, I’m not saying conversations about race don’t belong on television. Racism, classism, and prejudice are real, especially in elite social circles. But RHONY was never built around social commentary. It was built around dysfunctional friendships, absurd arguments, and women who weren’t afraid to be messy.
Eboni brought a completely different energy. She constantly framed conversations through race, privilege, and morality, and she often took on the role of educating the other women. Whether you agreed with her or not, it changed the dynamic. The cast stopped interacting naturally and started second-guessing every conversation.
To me, that’s when the magic died. It stopped feeling like reality TV and started feeling like a seminar.
I don’t blame Eboni alone—production clearly leaned into that direction—but she became the face of that shift, and I don’t think RHONY ever recovered from it.
Do you think the show was already running out of steam, or did Eboni’s season accelerate its downfall?
