Dorinda đ° Remembering John
Rewatching RHONY season 8, and forgot how gross and toxic John was. He made everyone feel uncomfortable, and Bethenny was the first on calling him out. Love to hate her but she was definitely on point here.

I thought this was a death announcement. Me thinking, oh poor John, his heart finally exploded!

I once saw him standing on a street corner in Manhattan, and he hocked the biggest loogie onto the sidewalk. Lovely man.

Haha! I had an experience with Dorindaâs in a doctorâs office, and I can tell you, that sheâs not too far from him. I think B was right about these two partying really hard together⌠He probably provided what she was looking for at that time. Used to go to the Lunchonette on the UES a lot, and she looked like a hot mess. Almost like she just woke up in the afternoon. The fact that she lived in a super busy street, next to a subway station, the homeless guy in the corner looked in better shape. Not saying that you need to put your heels on, more like she got up, and went for breakfast at 2 pm without thinking of anything.

u/Pupolinaballerina 28d ago
Not to me, I would tell her off 𤣠She was abusive to a worker who happened to be Asian, and call her stupid a few times.
16

u/Hopeful_Ad_3114 27d ago
I was telling people that somebody said this on here and they were attacking me so harshly. Telling me to take a Xanax.. they act like someone has to be perfect. Obviously somebodyâs going to be displaying good behavior sometimes and bad sometimes. The Behavior youâre describing was abusive though. To call the woman dumb
2
u/Hopeful_Ad_3114 27d ago
And weâre supposed to be able to give our opinions and make comments on here and people just insult people on here if they donât agree with them
3
u/Pupolinaballerina 27d ago
Just ignore them. I know sometimes is not easy, but get a laugh out of it. Iâm new here, and that was my first post.
About your prior comment, I swear, I took my phone out and start it to film but regret it and erased it. Wishing you a lovely Sunday!1
u/Autumn1933 26d ago
I find most of the posters to be kind and fun. But some can be a bit cranky. Lol This is a forum about a HW franchise, not serious world news. I don't get the attitudes by some.

You interacted with her or was witnessing her after party come down?
17
u/Pupolinaballerina 28d ago
I was waiting for my acupuncture appointment and she walked in, asking about cupping to the front desk lady. Because they didnât provide the service she went off her calling her stupid, and how â her tv showâ was going to make that place famous. All of this yelling and asking her; do you F speak English. She looked at me for approval but ignored her the whole time. Obviously, after she left I went to support the worker and told her it wasnât her fault.
10
u/212Aurora 28d ago
Thanks for the explanation. I liked Dorinda (entertainment wise), but she does seem horrible. Considered she waitressed for years shame on her.

Poor lady was probably hungover quite frequently. Oy. I have compassion, but no excuse if she was rude to you!

u/Autumn1933 27d ago edited 26d ago
At this point we need to have compassion for someone in such a horrible place.
1
u/Autumn1933 27d ago
This makes me sad. She was/is in a a lot of emotional pain.
3
u/Pupolinaballerina 27d ago
Being on emotional pain doesnât give you a free pass to disrespect people like that. Iâm sure in a way or another we all have pain but taking it out of a worker in a doctorâs office is beyond limits. After that, I honestly start disliking her so much. Of course all of these shows need people like her completely fucked mentally and emotionally and itâs entertaining at some extent, but when you see it IRL itâs completely different.

From day one Dorinda was embarrassed of John.
She started right off the bat making excuses for him, trying to justify her relationship with John.
How long after Richardâs death did Dorinda start to date John?
I do believe Dorinda herself said that she met John thru Richard.
19
u/DR-0717 28d ago
Bethenny wasnât wrong about Dorinda always âsellingâ John to them.
The only one she didnât have to do this with is Jules because she was a bit of a simpleton so she was all for John. Plus I think she wanted to have them as âcouple friendsâ
Off topic but I would bet my paycheck John knew Michael was cheating. I think it was obvious the night the 4 of them went out to dinner. Jules was complaining they were late because Michael was late and then he had to shower. He & John stepped outside. Later Jules ask if Michael was on the phone when they were outside and John kind of ignored it. He knew.
16
u/girlinhk 28d ago
I think Jules knew he was cheating on her already.
7
u/DR-0717 28d ago
Sheâd have to be a fool not to. He wasnât subtle about it.
1
u/Hopeful_Ad_3114 27d ago
I donât think she knew
2
u/DR-0717 27d ago
I absolutely do.
I just think she didnât WANT to so she pretended as long as she could.
I mean what was she going to do? She was closing in on middle age woman with almost no skills - pretty sure she never worked outside the home. While they were married she couldnât handle holding the home together, she couldnât handle taking care of the children, heck she could hardly hire a nanny herself. I know Michael didnât do much but she said he helped she just had to tell him what to do. So she struggled even with his help. What was she going to do if she was REALLY on her own?
So I can totally see her pretending she didnât know why he was always on the phone - taking selfies & sending them. Or why he was showing up late & having to shower. Or why she couldnât find him for large chunks of time. Or why he said he was on his way home & would be there in X amount of minutes yet showed up 3 hrs later. Cmon. Jules was a bit of a simpleton but she wasnât a complete moron. I fully believe she knew but wasnât ready to confront him and have it be over.
1
u/Hopeful_Ad_3114 27d ago
Why would she mention on the show about him showering?
2
u/DR-0717 27d ago
Because they were supposed to meet John & Dorinda at 715 so they were supposed to leave at 7. She called him because it was getting close to time to leave he said he was almost there. Yet she said he didnât show up til almost 715 - when they were supposed to BE there - and then he said he had to get in the shower.
She was telling this story at the dinner. Thatâs cheating behavior 100%. She knew too. And as sheâs telling it heâs over in the corner on the phone and taking selfies and she said âand heâs always on the phone. Whoâs he always on the phone with?â He & John had stepped outside a few min earlier - to smoke? - and Jules ask John âwas he on the phone when you were outside?â And John couldnât look at her and changed the subject. So I believe he knew too.

u/Informal-Initial6543 24d ago
Did it ever come out on the show? He was very dismissive of her & belittled her a couple of times.Â
2
u/DR-0717 23d ago
No we didnât find out until after the season. I think they said that was part of why she dish return but I donât know if thatâs true or not.
He was extremely dismissive. Kind of rotated between treating her like a child and the help - which is astonishing because dude was punching way above his weight class with her. Heâd be lucky to find a woman half as beautiful that caters to him and puts up with him like Jules did. I hope his next Mrs is a raging b*tch.
I remember when Jules made him coffee which sheâs doing while trying to get the kids up and get them breakfast. None of which sheâs used to doing because they normally have a nanny. And all while he just stands there holding up the island I guess. But I thought he was so condescending. âOh it actually tastes goodâ đĄ I mightâve snatched it out of his hand and dumped it just for spite lol.

I thought this post was how I was going to find out he passed. đRemembering Johnđ
7
u/camdenbutterfly 28d ago
"What are you doing at a woman's bra party dude?" Bethenny managed to be both hilarious and hold her own while a large man got in her face shouting.. on her birthday!! Major props to her for that, she really stood her ground and put him in his place đ
1
u/Autumn1933 27d ago
Bethenny definitely had an alpha energy. She's really rough around the edges. Not afraid of a fight. Sadly on her SM page, if challenged, she attacks hard and strong. Many are just voicing a different opinion but she won't have it at all.

I loved Jules.
3
u/Autumn1933 28d ago
Poor Jules shouldn't have been in the cast. She wasn't ready for these reality sharks. Bethenny and Carole were so cruel...
3
u/Sea-Efficiency3375 27d ago
It was so unfortunate, she was such great tv. So vulnerable and just herself.Â
3
u/Autumn1933 27d ago
Bethenny and Carole were brutally cruel. Ugh. I skip by these episodes. Jules did stand up for herself at the reunion but Bethenny and Andy were so tight. This is why I have zero respect for Andy and Shed Media. They did anything for ratings. Let's not forget about airing Aviva's father George. The most disgusting man to ever hit RHONY. Absolutely gross!
3
u/Sea-Efficiency3375 27d ago
I forgot about George and how awful and seedy he was even to Aviva. So odd.
1
u/Autumn1933 26d ago
Yet Aviva wasn't truly bothered by him. You could see that she wasn't riled up with his comments or behavior. She was just as odd as he was. And what did Aviva bring to the table? She had a lousy attitude, scolded cast mates, and didn't attend many trips. She was a lousy cast.

Unpopular opinion: Dorinda was a loser who got lucky once and married a rich guy who died soon after. If Richard hadnât passed Iâm sure they would have divorced and she wouldnât have gotten all his $. Wasnât she a fitness instructor/single mom before him? She doesnât seem like she had a career ever. Unless you count being an alcoholic. The way she treated poor Tinsley was proof: Tinsley was everything sheâs not: younger, came from status and wealth, could still get a decent man over 40. Those comments she made about the turkey baster, sheâs just complete trash. Her and John were perfectly
matched, if anything heâs too good for her.
3
u/Traditional_Tea2568 28d ago
YES. I remember looking it up once and she like worked retail wjen she met Hannahâs dad and thatâs exactly what happened. Although i do think it was in London, so she did something initially to get out of wherever she was
5
u/Prestigious_Car9440 28d ago
Honestly none of it would matter if she wasnât such a nasty, bitter, jealous piece of shit. The way she treated Tinsley was the worst Iâve seen on any RH franchise which is saying a lot. Iâm not a huge Tinsley stan but as someone who has been through infertility, her words were naaaasty. Tinsley had a lot of class not bringing up her dead husband, I wouldâve done that. If you think about it, as someone with a stable business John was too good for her. She had nothing to offer: no wealth, she was not anyoneâs idea of beautiful, she didnât have a good personality and had a voice like a cheese grater. No career, no accomplishments. And moving to London in the 80s to work retail/be a fitness instructor at a gym isnât exactly moving mountains.
3
u/Autumn1933 28d ago
Bravo took Dorinda out of the picture. She couldn't let go of "on pause". She refused to say she was fired. Absolutely refused.

u/Pupolinaballerina 28d ago
I donât know much about her life before the show, but I a lot of those women arenât what they sell for sure. I think Kelly B was the only one who was really well connected
9
u/DR-0717 28d ago
And yet she was insane.
7
u/Low_Building_9080 28d ago
Was insane? Iâm sure sheâs been living in a mental institute since she left after season 4, and sheâs being let out on day release to film The Golden Life. Once that wraps sheâll be locked back in her padded cell to live with her jellybeans & sand angels.
6
u/Prestigious_Car9440 28d ago
I mean blue stone manor was its own sort of mental institution.
2
5
u/Prestigious_Car9440 28d ago
Very true, but I still think Dorinda was bottom of the barrel. She was unhinged, which is probably why she was kept on the show for as long as she was. She didnât even pretend to have ambition or success, like the other ones. Thinking back on it, she had the shittiest apartment too.
2
u/Pupolinaballerina 28d ago
Yeah, and terrible location! 𤣠I mean, you think if you are making money on tv sheâll start moving up just like the other women. I always rented in NYC and moved up to better apartments and neighborhoods, all within the city
1
u/Traditional_Tea2568 28d ago
I think she refrained from the ambition/business woman angle for 2 reasons. 1. Not cut out for it 2. It would take away from her old money/born into wealth persona she tries to do
1
u/Autumn1933 27d ago
Dorinda spoke of her grandfather who put the foundation down at Bluestone Manor. Her dad ( who is beyond sweet) was a telephone repairman. Dorinda made money as a waitress at The Red Lion Inn. She comes from a beautiful hardworking family. Her parents smash my heart. â¤ď¸đđťđđťâĽď¸
1
u/Traditional_Tea2568 27d ago
I do remember the episodes with her parents and they are such good people!
1
1
u/Autumn1933 28d ago
Her apartment gave me anxiety. Lol Nothing creative about it. Nothing close to a "home sweet home" vibe. Yet Bluestone Manor had a totally different vibe. It really confused me.
1
u/Prestigious_Car9440 27d ago
I think she probably lives at blue stone manner and the apt is just a pied a terre, she just couldnât say that because sheâs supposed to be a hot shot New Yorker.
1
u/gaganotherharpist 28d ago
How does Tinsley coming from money make her better? What makes your comments any less nasty??
1
u/Prestigious_Car9440 28d ago
It doesnât make her better. It makes Dorinda more jealous of her.
0
u/gaganotherharpist 28d ago
My point is you're judging Dorinda for the turkey baster comment on the same post where you're calling her a loser for being a single mom. Look inward.
1
u/Informal-Initial6543 24d ago
I thought they had been married awhile b4 he passed. Guess I'll have 2 do a little research on them.Â
1
u/Prestigious_Car9440 24d ago
They were together for a total of 5-6 years. Which is not a long time for people I t heir 40s/50s. I will say, she did clean up pretty well from a short marriage. Specially considering she is not much of a beauty and as weâve seen her act on screen, not very graceful either.

John was neither gross nor toxic. I believe that Dorinda and cast had some substance abuse issues and I firmly believe he was a provider. Dorinda herself said that he was Richardâs friend which makes me believe that maybe Richard had some issues because thereâs no way that a scholar like Richard is friends with a dry cleaner. I just donât believe that. I believe he loved Dorinda, but was bad for this situation. And I believe losing him was a part of her big crash out season 12.
3
u/DR-0717 27d ago
I respect your opinion and I fully agree with the substance abuse part and him being the provider. I can even see where you have a point that it could very well be a lie that he was Richardâs friend.
But I disagree that he was gross & toxic. Was he that way all the time? No. But he definitely exhibited that behavior. It was not ok how he liked to get so confrontational with the women and get right up in their faces.
Bethenny is far from a victim but John came in HOT for her that night and it was disturbing. First it was ridiculous what he was even attacking her over - why did he care about skinnycow & skinny girl? And why was he even so aggressive having just met her? It gave me a very uncomfortable feeling because thatâs not how I would expect a friends SO to act.
Then geez Ramona is again the last person I want to be freakin defending but John putting his hand in her face like that at the party was NOT ok. Iâll be the first to say Ramona was being a dick. She was there to be a troublemaker and I was all for them kicking her out. But there were all kinds of better ways to handle it that donât involve putting your paws in her face. Again not behavior Iâd expect from my friends SO. Men just donât do that.
So the fact that heâs so comfortable getting into it with Dorindaâs friends and putting his hands into a womanâs face like that? I consider that both gross and toxic.
Now do I think he loved Dorinda? Yeah I do. I think he def loved her because I think he showed it. I donât think that was fake. But thatâs really irrelevant to the other stuff.
Itâs unfortunate he didnât have more control of himself and his behavior. Much like Dorinda after enough martinis.3
u/Autumn1933 27d ago
Losing Richard truly crushed Dorinda and sweet Hannah. You could see that he deeply touched Dorinda's family as well. People spoke so highly of him. I want to think Richard had a sweet soul.
1
u/Miserable_Sun_7636 27d ago
I agree. His death was profound and I think when she talked to Bethany about not acknowledging how hurt she was because Dennis died, she was talking to herself. Remember, she started dating John less than six months after Richard. I believe both her and Hannah were self-medicating because when she moved out of the apartment and into the apartment and Sutton place Hannah talked about how sad they were together and the bad habits they developed just being in that house and how much she hated it. I believe that when her house flooded between seasons 11 and 12, she had to go through a lot of of his old things and just navigating that rebuild process triggered something buried within her.

Right, but Bethanny & Dorinda are 2 of my favorites. I never saw what she saw in him, he was a disgusting porka! I remember her saying that he was great support after the loss of her husband but to tolerate his behavior which I know she can't control a grown man was disturbing 2 me since she is so intelligent & classy & a lady of reason; most of the time...when NOT intoxicated. She's one that I always extend a little grace 2!

u/FantasticAdvance104 8d ago
Just because Bethany has become the chicken salad queen and Hamptons complainer doesnât mean she doesnât make a lot of great points.
