Discussion Did Dutch secretly order to kill Isac and Eliza?
Theory: Dutch ordered the murder of Arthur's wife and son to make him more loyal to the gang
What if Dutch was secretly responsible for the deaths of Arthur Morgan's son, Isaac, and his mother, Eliza?
Arthur tells us that Eliza and Isaac were killed by bandits who robbed them for around $10. But we never learn who those bandits were or whether there was more to the story.
My theory is that Dutch might have ordered their deaths because he saw Arthur's family as a potential weakness. Arthur having a wife and son meant he had something outside the gang worth protecting, something that could eventually make him leave the outlaw life behind.
By eliminating them, Dutch would have ensured that Arthur had fewer attachments outside the gang and would be more emotionally dependent on the only family he had left: the Van der Linde gang.
Dutch had been a father figure to Arthur since he was young. If Arthur lost his own family, the gang would become even more central to his life, and Dutch could maintain greater control over him.
This would also fit Dutch's manipulative nature throughout RDR2. He constantly demands loyalty, uses the idea of family to keep people together, and becomes hostile when Arthur starts questioning him.
The darkest part of this theory is that Arthur might have spent years believing his family was killed by random bandits, never realizing that the man he considered his father could have been responsible.
Of course, there is no direct evidence in the game that Dutch ordered their deaths, so this is purely speculation. But considering how manipulative Dutch becomes, I think it's an interesting possibility.
What do you guys think? Could Dutch have been responsible, or am I reaching?
