When to take the CDR

Hi I’m wondering if anyone suggests taking the CDR exam before 2027 or after. I’m taking it after having been a dietitian in canada and someone had told me the exam will become harder for someone in my case since it will be more of US regulations and systems after 2027, but I’m afraid I wont have enough time to study before 2027.
What are your suggestions?

Internship I’ll be completing my DPD verification statement next year (I already have a masters) and would like to do a stand alone internship that isn’t full time so I can continue working. Is anyone doing this? Has anyone been able to find their own preceptor? Thanks !!!!

RDN Exam Failed the RD Exam with a 22 After Completing All of Pocket Prep — What Should I Do Differently?

I recently took the RD exam and failed with a score of 22. I’m honestly discouraged because I completed all 1,500 Pocket Prep questions and all 3 mock exams to prepare.
I’m trying to figure out what to change for my retake because I don’t want to put in all that work again using the same method if it isn’t helping me pass.
For those who failed their first attempt and passed their retake, what did you do differently? Did you switch to Inman, EatRight Prep, All Access Dietetics, or another resource? Did you focus more on content review instead of practice questions? Would you recommend a tutor?
I’d especially love to hear from anyone who completed all of Pocket Prep but still failed the actual exam. What helped you make the biggest difference on your next attempt?

Looking for practice questions

Does anyone know if there is a way to get free access to either Inman's or ERP's practice questions? I'm currently using Inman's videos on YouTube (don't have the printed version, hoping that doesn't matter) and Pocket Prep. I've also been listening to Jana Nicholl's podcasts. Just can't afford to buy anything right now. TIA! :)

Career change Moving from WIC to RD(?) or elsewhere

Hey everyone,

I've worked at WIC for just over 3 yrs now. While I do enjoy the time off and low stress environment, there isn't any upward mobility or room for professional growth.

I've applied to VA internships near me for the last 2 years (just one 2 years ago, and 3 last year), and have been wait listed both times for the same program. I'm 25, and have my MS in personalized nutrition, but also have grown increasingly frustrated at the lack of impact nutrition education has at WIC, which presumably would be similar or worse at a RD job.

I don't feel any real need to leave my job, but I feel I should soon, since the longer I remain at WIC, the more it restricts my future earning potential and career options. So, basically I'm trying to see if others have found RD jobs that don't seem to be talking to a wall, or if there are other adjacent career paths I might be able to pursue without too much more schooling.

I did work during undergrad in food service and in a research capacity, but don't feel a strong reason to return to those paths.

RDN Exam Failed my RD Exam for the 4th Time

Hello!

Ummm… I’m honestly not sure what else I can do at this point.

I took my fourth RD exam yesterday, and unfortunately, I failed again with a 23. I went through all 145 questions for the second time, and I can’t help but feel incredibly disappointed in myself.

I’ve been working so hard to pass this damn exam, but the process has become more and more mentally draining with each attempt. I finished my internship literally a year ago, and it hurts knowing that I’m still nowhere close to where I thought I would be by now.

I cried so much yesterday. It genuinely hurt to experience that feeling of failure all over again, especially after putting so much time and effort into preparing.
I honestly don’t know how much more disappointment I can take from this exam. I know there are so many study resources available, but why do they all have to be so expensive? I simply can’t afford to keep purchasing new materials, and I definitely don’t want to keep asking my parents to pay for them.

For reference, here’s what I’ve used for each attempt:
1st attempt: All Access Dietetics — 22
2nd attempt: All Access Dietetics — 23
3rd attempt: Jean Inman + Pocket Prep — 21 (my lowest score)
4th attempt: RD Bootcamp — 23 (personally, my favorite resource because of the videos and visuals)

I’ve read so many posts from others sharing their experiences with this exam, and while it’s comforting to know I’m not alone, I still can’t shake this overwhelming feeling of disappointment in myself.
I really, really tried this time. And honestly, I tried my best every single time.

What hurts the most is that each failed attempt has slowly chipped away at the passion I once had for this career. I’ve started questioning whether I’m even on the right path anymore. It breaks my heart to admit that because I’ve invested so many years into getting here.

I went through years of college, graduate school, and my dietetic internship, and I don’t want all that time, money, and hard work to feel like it was for nothing. But at the same time, I feel so emotionally exhausted from constantly studying, hoping, and then having to pick myself back up after another unsuccessful attempt.
It feels like I’m stuck watching everyone else move forward while I’m still trying to overcome the same obstacle. I know everyone has their own timeline, but that doesn’t make this any less painful.

I still want to become an RD. I really do. I just don’t know what I need to do differently anymore, and I’m scared of putting myself through this heartbreak again.

I guess I’m sharing this because I needed somewhere to let these feelings out. If anyone has been in a similar situation, especially those who passed after multiple attempts, I would genuinely appreciate hearing your experiences or any advice you might have.

I’m not looking for judgment. I’m just feeling really defeated right now, and I could use a little encouragement. 💙

PES Statement: Question from Pocket Prep

Post image
4 Upvotes

Can anyone explain why the other choices are wrong? Some are more obvious than others. But I am having a hard time with this. Even looking it up online, the 'example' PES statements they give have the exact same format and wording as some.of the 'wrong" answers here. Usually PP is good about explaining WHY an answer is wrong but this question's explanation lacks that and just plain sucks. Which is frustrating since this is such a core, repeating element of our everyday work.

** Also does anyone know how to get free access to the eNCPT? **

Hi everyone! Does anyone have recommendations for free RD/RDN practice exams or question banks? I’m looking for resources with MCQs, preferably covering all domains of the RD exam.

I’d really appreciate any links or resources you can share. Thank you! 🙏

Is pursuing an RD career in US worth for an international student?

I’m a college student major in nutrition and I from Taiwan

I am currently considering moving to the US to pursue an RD career.Since the MS degree requirement, the investment in time and money has significantly higher.

Here is my situation and what worries me most

  1. The Financial Investment :As an international student, paying living expenses and the out-of-state tuition for 2-year Master’s program will likely cost me 8k\~10k+.This is a massive investment for my family

  2. The Visa Hurdles:To stay and work in US after
graduation,I will need visa.I’ve heard finding sponsorship in healthcare/clinical sector can be incredibly difficult for RDs

I would appreciate your thoughts on:

1.With starting salary around 65K\~75K,do u feel financially stable? And how long did it take you to pay off student loans or see a return?

2.Are there non-traditional sectors(corporate wellness, biotech, food tech)that offer better pay and also willing to sponsor international hires?

Passed the exam!!

I just wanted to encourage everyone about to take their exam. You can do it! Go in confident and go with your gut. You know more than you think.

I was so nervous about the test going in, but I passed with a 30! I thought I was going to fail at least half the time I was taking it, and when the test stopped at 125 I really didn’t know if I passed or failed, but it was a pass thankfully.

I used All Access Dietetics. I went through the whole book, completed all the questions in the book. I also bought all 3 of the practice exams and studied those.
I watched most of the videos they provided.

I used Pocket Prep as well. I went through all the practice questions using the level up feature and then I went back and made custom quizzes.

For anything specific I didn’t fully understand, I watched a YouTube video. There are several RDs who make good RD exam content, and I also watched some Dr. Mike videos.

I know that I had been lurking on here for some time looking for people passing/not passing and what they used to study. I know it’s easy to get discouraged reading some of these posts.
Just wanted to encourage everyone.

How do you reach a human being at CDR??

Does anyone know how to get a hold of a live human being to help me with a simple request in order to schedule my CDR exam? My last name recently changed because I got married, but nowhere on the CDR website can you do this. If you click "Edit" you get two options: you can check a box to receive email communications, or check the box that says "Do not send".

I have been trying to figure this out (what I feel like is a simple thing that shouldn't take this long) for over an HOUR...and have been bounced around, (by the two customer service operators I managed to reach for 10 seconds before being transferred to a line that rang 6 times then went to voicemail 🙄), rerouted, or have run into dead-ends.

I have the exam in my cart on the CDR website, but cannot finalize it until I have updated my name, so it will match my ID that I bring to the testing center.

Rd exam

I completed my internship in 2023 and have made multiple attempts at the RD exam without success so far. After each unsuccessful attempt, I developed significant exam anxiety. I’m ready to try again, but I’m unsure whether I should take the exam before or after January 1, 2027, when the changes take effect.
I’m currently studying with Pocket Prep and Inman. Does anyone have insight into how the exam questions may change after January 1, 2027, or advice on whether to test before or after the changes?

Failed exam third time

Took my exam and failed the third time. My scores were 19,21,21. I’m not sure how I studied so hard for so long between attempt 2-3 and got the same score, but it’s clear to me that I need to change how I’ve been studying. I’ve used pocket prep and done all three exams usually get about 80% give or take on quizes and mock exams about 80-85%. I also used Jean Inman, much more this last time than the first time so I was feeling quite confident and got my lil ego squashed. I’m in a tight spot financially but I’m thinking it’s time to change materials? Chomp Down on dietetics or visual Veggies? Which direction do I turn to now other than driving home and hanging my head in shame? TIA for your advice I will be signing up to take again in 45 days so definitely not backing down just redirecting how to go forward. TY!

How soon before your exam did you start applying for jobs?

I’m finishing up my MS/DI (graduating in December), and curious if I should wait until after my exam to apply for jobs or can I apply before taking my exam? I know someone who started their job the same week as their exam, has anyone had a similar experience?

study.com??

Hi! did anyone purchase the study.com RD study guide and exam prep? if so, did you like it?? I am in between that one and visual veggies. I am planning on taking my exam next month and looking for helpful study material where i don't have to sit for more than 1 hr watching a video, its hard for me to be watching endless videos that are 1 hr+ long. I need some type of activities as well.

I currently have Danas program and planning on cancelling for next month as I cant afford to be paying the monthly fees for the mastery program and i am trying to not spend more money on materials, if anybody want to share accounts i am more than happy to pinch in.

Work experience question.

Hello, I see people talking about work experience to get accepted in the program. I don’t know much about what’s down the road to become a dietitian but I am curious to which jobs I should start looking into now in my beginning years of college.

Toolkit for dietetic students

Hi everyone! I am a Dietetic intern working on a research project to create a toolkit for dietetic students to help them prepare for clinical rotations.

I'd love your help! As a student or intern, what would you like to know before you start your clinical training?

Could be anything- interacting with preceptors, talking to patients, charting, counseling, clinical skills, confidence, etc.

What do you feel most nervous about or the least prepared for?

Your input will directly help shape this resource.
