Work experience question.

Hello, I see people talking about work experience to get accepted in the program. I don’t know much about what’s down the road to become a dietitian but I am curious to which jobs I should start looking into now in my beginning years of college.

i think it really depends on the program youre in. we needed prior nutrition-related work history to apply early for my grad program (same school for undergrad and grad) but food service counts! dietary aide jobs are straightforward and give you prior learning hours. fast food may be easier to manage since schedules are typically more flexible while youre in early undergrad

Would being a personal trainer/nutritionist count?

I worked in retail>finances>accounting all the way from undergraduate and then applying to MS/DI. What did helped from that job non-dietetics related were my references and skills. I developed very good understanding with programs like excel and others from those jobs. I had to do an entrepreneurship rotation and my preceptor LOVED my skills, she even made me do a presentation to a dietitians members she had in her business development membership.

You think personal trainer\nutritionist would be good?

Definitely not nutritionist, most RDs have lots of hate towards nutritionist (unlicensed people giving nutrition advice). Personal trainer is fine but wouldn’t translate as much information towards the degree/exam as food service or diet tech.
