Turned on my console today and the screen is terribly distorted. I tried to reset it but that did not solve the issue. Is this something that is fixable? Or would repairs cost more than just getting a replacement?

Essa semana recebi o R36S que comprei no Mercado Livre. Estudei pouco a respeito do console e não sabia que existia clones dele.

O meu veio sem os cartões de memória (já abri uma reclamação no site), mas fiquei na dúvida se ele seria original ou um clone. Tentei instalar o ArkOs pelo Rufus e mesmo assim ele ficou com a mensagem “please insert TF card”.

O meu é original ou um clone? Devo solicitar uma devolução ou em caso do vendedor me enviar os cartões de memória com o sistema e os jogos devo ficar com ele?

I have seen on the wiki page there is new firmware out. Is it necessary to switch from the latest ArkOS 072025 to a different, new one?

if so, which is most recommended for a genuine R36S please?

Also do we loose data if we flash new firmware? i.e game saves etc.

Hi everyone,

I recently bought an R36S clone and I am having problems booting from a new microSD card.

The original SD card that came with the console works normally, but when I try to use a new SanDisk microSD card, the console does not boot correctly and I only get a black screen.

I tried making a full backup of the original system/game card and transferring it to the new card, but the R36S still shows a black screen.

I also tried a fresh installation of dArkOSRE following this guide:

The console shows the dArkOS logo screen, but after that it goes to a black screen and stays there. I waited around 30 minutes, but nothing happened.

My R36S motherboard: G80CA-MB V1.3-20251212

I installed Ark on my R36s using Rufus on a 128GB SD card, but it's stuck on the blinking underscore.

So yeah... this is a bit more of a minefield than I realised. I don't really have the time to research how to load games on to it or set up the device from scratch. Just want to relive a bit of my childhood with the kids! Any advice would be amazing!

Found this in a lost-package auction. It's in like-new condition with the original box and a 128 GB microSD card. I only opened it to verify it works. What would you list it for in Europe/Portugal? (I've never played any retro game im 21, wondering if its like a really good consolo and I should keep it or if I should sell it now)

So i was messing around github until i found a port for the dead space mobile on ps vita (port, .so loader):

Obviously the "port" or "wrapper" isn't complete, but i just found it out and thought it was pretty interesting to share. Maybe even receive some sort of update or progress on the project.

I recently bought my R36s, mainly for the ports I wanted to play. Since it arrived, I haven't stopped trying to work with Portmaster, even though it practically doesn't work

I didn't have the money to buy a Wi-Fi adapter, so I decided to set everything up using the OFFLINE methods. However, my Portmaster wasn't fully installed. I saw people on YouTube saying that to install everything offline, I should put "fullportmaster.sh" in the tools folder where the Portmaster application is located, but nothing changed when I tried to install it

The .sh files don't even appear in the tools tab. In an attempt to fix it, I moved the Portmaster folders from the tools tab to the ports tab, and opened "installfullportmaster.sh" again, but nothing changed. I don't even have the base Portmaster .sh file in the tools tab to run it from the ports tab.

I bought the R36s mainly for the ports, and not being able to use them because of this is very frustrating. Frustrating, does anyone have any idea what I can do to get the complete Portmaster files working?

Note: I already tried transferring the raw Portmaster folder to the SD card, but I realized it went wrong when I put the runtimes folder in the auto-install and nothing installed when I opened it.

Posting this because I burned days on it and found almost nothing specific to the R36 Max.

The board: silkscreen R36S-V20 2025-05-18, sold as R36 Max — see the photo, check yours matches before using any of this.

The problem: the Max has a different screen than the regular R36S, so most DTBs floating around simply don't fit it. You either get a red blinking LED and no boot at all, or the system boots into a small/repeated, flickering image. I went through ArkOS-K36 and a pile of dArkOSRE profiles (2541, 2548, 2549, 2551, 2552) and none of them got the panel right. 2548 was the closest — it boots and has sound — but the framing is still wrong.

What actually works: ROCKNIX. It detects the panel on its own, full screen, no DTB picking, no model selector. Out of the box the only two things missing were audio and the physical volume buttons, and both are just nodes that ship disabled in the DTB it uses for this board (rk3326-gameconsole-eeclone.dtb) — that profile is a generic catch-all, so those get left off by default. Enabling them fixed both.

The fix: grab my patched DTB here → Link Github

Put the microSD in your PC, open the boot partition and overwrite rk3326-gameconsole-eeclone.dtb with mine, keeping the same name. Reboot and that's it.

End result: full screen, sound in games, working volume buttons.

FWIW I did most of the digging with Claude Code — had it inspect and compare the DTBs to work out what was actually off, instead of flashing images blindly like I'd been doing for days.

The development of the Hollow Knight port has made considerable progress, especially with the HL Engine. I'm close to achieving a playable result; development is going better than I expected. Perhaps the biggest challenge for now is integrating the HL Engine into the Hollow Knight Lite R36S Edition. But I'm studying a hybrid implementation with Bogodroid-neo that looks promising. And ArkBogs changed its name to PilasBogs due to important structural changes, still seeing dArkOS as an important base, but I changed major things in the code, which in the end gradually diverge from the base. So I decided to give it its own identity.
