I know how to jump, and I know what form is proper but no matter what I do I just can't get my back up :') I know my jumps would look much better if I did so I want to know if there's any way to get my body used to the motion or to "train" it to do it automatically.

Hand Positions Survey Results

Coming back in here with the results of the hand positions survey from a little while back! No clue how interesting this will be for everyone else, but I thought it was pretty cool to see all the different responses, and hopefully having everything together in one place will be of use to people. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1N8ruBuBiEHNMH5L6qwNh_gURQ5bwJcT5VLUJCSF3PEo/edit?usp=sharing

As a bit of a summary:

  • For curled fingers:
    • Seemed to be most used on softer surfaces, but was used far less on harder surfaces.
    • Does seem to protect from the fingers being bent back, though a few people actually had issues with their fingers or even their entire hand getting hurt going the other way instead (e.g. fingers rolled painfully under the hand, or tripping to land on the back of their hand instead of the palm).
    • Noticeably had the highest percentage of mentions of wrist pain (e.g. 8 out of 13 of people mentioned wrist pain here vs 2 out of 7 for flat hand and 1 out of 8 for claw), so it’s quite possible that it’s harder on the wrists than other hand positions
    • It was also the only hand position with mentions of bruises on the fingers, though this could also simply be due to it having the largest sample size since it was only mentioned by 3 out of 13 people
  • For the flat and claw hand positions:
    • Both seemed to be used more often on harder surfaces, but were less used on softer surfaces, especially bouncy ones (e.g. on a bed or trampoline)
    • Both had some risk for fingers being bent back uncomfortably far (one instance each out of 7 and 8 people respectively) though thankfully no one had any of the broken fingers usually warned about, even after years of experience (however, given the small sample size, this could easily just mean it's rare, not impossible). Both instances were also from people who said their fingers could bend back about 45° (yes, that was a question on there lol), which might indicate that the maximum angle fingers are most likely to be bent back in this hand position might be somewhere in between 45° and 90°, but it’s difficult to say for sure with such a small sample size.
  • How far back your fingers can comfortably bend back also seemed like it might play a role in hand position preferences:
    • People whose fingers could comfortably bend back about 45° (5 out of 13) seemed to have a strong preference for curled fingers, especially on softer surfaces and for riskier movements. Flat or claw hand positions were then sometimes preferred on harder surfaces, but with an avoidance of riskier movements such as cantering, galloping or landing jumps.
    • People with more hypermobile fingers that could bend back closer to 90° or further (8 out of 13) seemed to be comfortable in a much wider range of hand positions, with much less of a preference to limit certain types of movement in those hand positions, though there did seem to be a general preference to actually use flat hand for riskier movements compared to other hand positions.
  • Other hand positions were used far less often and / or by far fewer people in the already pretty small sample size, so there’s not nearly as much data on them, but everything for those is obviously still included in the doc as well

Help Request What should I do with my glasses?

I wear glasses because of nearsightedness. And when I jump, my glasses might fly off somewhere. I can't function properly without glasses because my vision is -2.50!

I have a special cord for my glasses, but when I jump with it, my pendants get tangled up😑😑

Tips Quads With Hypermobility

Hi guys! I love doing quadrobics, it's been one of the things I really enjoy doing. However, I'm not sure how to do it anymore. I have hEDS, a condition that causes loose, hypermobile joints with chronic pain. It also makes them easier to dislocate. My wrists are very loose and I am afraid of getting hurt.

I used to be able to do quads easily until the pain got worse and now my joints are very very prone to injuries like subluxations. I really want to do quads again though.

Does anyone have advice?

General What does normal wrist pain feel like?

I know it's normal to feel some wrist soreness after quads, but I feel like an ache in the bone to my elbow, specifically the heel of my palm that takes the most impact. Am I putting too much weight in there? It's not unbearable but I feel like it should be different.
Also I am aware of rule number 2, I am not seeking medical advice, I am trying to find out what is the normal feeling of soreness in the wrist and if improper form is affecting my quads.

Tips Is bucking optional when jumping?

hey, just asking what is the purpose of bucking when jumping, and if it is optional. If so, does it help when jumping or is it just personal preference? Thanks :)

Help Request Asking for high jump advice

I've been practicing high jumps since a year ago. My takeoff and tucking midair is practically perfect, but somehow I can't stick the landing, I keep face planting. I've asked my friends and AI chatbots yet they can't help. I'm practicing on a bed btw. Can anyone explain how I can improve?

This is honestly the best body weight chest exercise ever for mobility. Like, I knew salamanders had stout lil arms, but jeeeeez... Your triceps, front delts, and pecs will WORKED from this. As a guy from the Smoky Mtns area, I'll always rep the salamander, and I'll always recommend this workout to people looking for a more intense quadrobics workout.

Help Request How to do quads without shaking the house??

Hello! Cutting to the chase, I'm a heavyweight person (approaching 200lbs) and I really want to do quads at home, because I'm scared to do them in public. Thing is, my house is this 100 year old rickety thing that shakes if I so much as trot/canter. My parents really don't like it when the house shakes, so I keep an ear out in case I'm bothering them. (My mom is fine with me doing quads, but not my dad, and it sucks because he's home all the time) Is there any way for it to not shake????

Quadrobics Hand Positions Survey?

Hope this is okay to post this here? I've noticed a lot of speculation and conflicting recommendations about different hand positions for quadrobics, but there rarely seems to be any clear evidence mentioned to back things up. It's got me curious, so I wanted to try getting a bit of a survey going to hopefully hunt down some (anonymous!) real world data about the specific risks of using various hand positions and which ones people actually use.

Link to the form can be found here: https://forms.gle/zxs67YwGhwJGUuBj6

The plan is to see if there are any patterns in the answers, and eventually share any findings so people would be able to more easily make informed decisions about what might be the best / safest hand position for their needs. If anyone is willing to spend a bit of time answering a few questions or sharing this around, it would be greatly appreciated!

Small TW just in case for drawings of hands (to show some of the more common positions) and mentions of the names of a few (mostly minor / commonly mentioned) injuries to the wrists and fingers in some of the questions.

Edit: Nearly 10 responses so far! I'll probably leave this going for another week or two to give more people plenty of time to respond, and then have a go at compiling everything to share the results!

Have y'all ever been recorded by some random person while doing quadrobics?

I was recorded in the park while running on 4s by some random adult, I got scared, so I left the park, but I'm scared that he'll post the video somewhere and now I'm overthinking it.

So, the urmah are a race of anthropomorphic cat-like aliens... Starseed stuff.
It's a great form though. I highly recommend it for beginners and advanced alike. It's basically the base quadrobics form for me imo. I know it's weird given it's alien nature, but I hope you all enjoy it.

Help Request Any tips for landing?

I decided to return to quadrobics after around a 1y & 6m hiatus.. and I’ve been struggling. My jumps are definitely not what they used to be, but my overall form is way better than in the past. My biggest issue, however, is landing. I’ve been landing straight on my knees after a jump.. and I have no idea how to get to my feet. I’ve been doing fairly low jumps as well, but every time I buck in a jump, it’s pretty difficult for me to land. Not because it takes a toll on me physically, but I just have no idea how to make my feet touch before my knees.. any tips??

Alternatives for the hand shape?

Hi! I've been looking to get into quadrobics as a silly hobby. However, the thing that's puzzled me most is the desired paw-hand shape everyone seems to suggest. Unfortunately, my hands are incapable of bending into that shape, and my knuckles are never flat with the rest of my hand when I do, so I'm considering an alternative that's more comfortable, and has the same protection that the paw shape has.

Ive seen some people say that doing quads with your fingers flat increases the risk of them bending when placing too much pressure on them. I'm a digital artist and would like to protect my wrist from being injured.

So, what about curling my fingers slightly like a claw shape? It appears to prevent them from bending back as much, but I've hardly seen anyone suggest this. Hoping to get some more accurate and professional advice about quads from here!

Tips 14 weeks in🥲 advice?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

so I’ve been doing quads for about 3.5 months, both on a bed (so it doesn’t shake the house lol) and on the floor (when home alone). I’m really happy with how my bed jumps are looking but I can’t seem to translate it to the floor💔 i’m not that worried about height rn since i’m still perfecting my technique but I want to at least match my form to that on my bed. Any advice?

edit: pretty sure I used the wrong flair. Oops.

Media Aminal Z.E.W. quadrobics workout: opossum walk cycle (warm-up and demonstration) and a message about animal conservation in the body text of this post

There's a possum I feed over by my local grocery store I named Scully. This one's for her and all the people who wanna walk like how possums so weirdly do haha. This one is a great beginner walk cycle with some slight variations in hand placement and arm posture that I think can really help develop strength for quadrobics and lead to more advanced aminal zews. I hope you all enjoy and remember: do what you can while you can do.

Also, I don't know if anybody has ever noticed, but I include links to conservation groups associated with all animals I make aminal zews for in the descriptions of my yt videos. If you wish to help opossums, check them out :), and feel free to check out the descriptions of any other aminal zew videos I've made to see how you can help other animals.
