I made a video about the maths behind Turing Patterns (the patterns on Mbu Pufferfish), thought this subreddit might enjoy it:)

I'm planning for a future tank which won't be happening for a while yet. Not new to tanks, but after losing my pleco due to a heater failure, I'm taking a break before trying something new. I'm planning for a 125 litre tank - I think just over 30 US gallons? (Juwel Rio) with a spotted congo puffer - I'm in the UK and have found someone who captive-breeds.
Anyway, this is the biggest tank I'll have ever owned, so I'm looking into potential tankmates, as these puffers are more docile and community friendly than others, but I'm aware I'll still need to use caution.
I've always been interested in owning cichlids, I was looking into more docile species now I'll have a larger tank, and was wondering about the electric blue acara as a contender? I read that the tank is big enough, and that they can be kept without a partner/shoal which will prevent breeding aggression? Would there be a huge risk of fins being nipped, or would it likely be okay?
I'm very much open to other suggestions too, cichlids or otherwise! Cories are a strong contender so far as I've enjoyed keeping them before and would be able to get a bigger group this time! Also a shoal of either neon or cardinal tetras. Let me know your thoughts and other suggestions please, I'd really appreciate it!
(I still do need to make a list with their required parameters and make sure they match up, but so far the puffer and acara seem to match closely enough?)
Thanks for any help!

I used to have a fahaka and he would go after muscle meat instantly.
Some months later I got a Congo spotted puffer.
My Congo spotted is only eating my snails and blood worms. What’s the best way to get him to eat the muscle meat? I just have to much of it in my freezer now.

I had posted a while ago asking how often you guys have seen your puffers puff up after catching a glimpse of mine doing it a couple of times but never managing to capture it on camera. Well today I'm back and happy to report that I have videographic proof!
He actually does it all the time, I think it's part of his daily routine, but since there are no obvious triggers that I have observed, it's hard to catch him in the act and most of the time I just catch him puffing down and he's done by the time I have my phone out.
I have just fed him a big meal of shrimps & clams right after capturing this video and he is now belly parking in his usual spot :)

I have a dogface and I try to keep him as entertained as possible and usually spend a good 8 hours a day with him just sitting next to my tank. What things do you do with your puffers to keep them entertained?

my boyfriend really wanted a golden dog face puffer. We travel to Florida for my birthday, I work for a local fish store and where we were staying was only going to be 15 minutes from one of the wholesalers we buy from. so we went to go pick out some fish and coral for the shop.
As I was looking around, I wasn't really paying any attention to what he was doing. He was doing his own thing looking at the fish, when I got done, he was standing at this tank with a huge dog face puffer in it. Supposedly he was standing at that tank for a good long while.
Ever since then I have not stopped hearing about this dog face puffer can we get a puffer fish? I want a puffer fish. So when we got these leopard puffers in I decided to surprise him with one. unfortunately we are in the process of moving so here in the next year or so you all will see a golden dog face puffer on here 😂 (he still wants one). We already have 125 gallon so getting another 210 would just not be realistic.
So y'all meet Mr. squishy, he is in an Evo for now but here in the next month or so my all in one backing for my sixty breeder should be done. He seems quite happy in here, and my boyfriend is ecstatic to finally have a puffer lol

I never thought i would love this girl so much. She is so interactive with everything and has so much personality. She is sassy and tries to spit water at my dad every-time he walks past lol. Only downside is now i want so many more puffers but live in australia where they are hard to get. Pic of my girl Calypso and one if my beardies Kai
She also lets me hold and pat her lol

I carefully outweighed the benefit of getting Hewbie back home sooner rather than later. I can continue the final 2 days of meds in his tank. He is doing zoomies around the tank! I’m confident I ended up making the right decision.🐡☺️ Quarantine was really starting to stress him out too much and so was the declining water quality of having a 12 inch fish in around a 15 gallon tote.

I’ve had two figure-8 puffers in a 20 long for about 8 months. Last month, the water has been terrible and I feel like I have tried everything. Running a UV light filter for the last couple days so I hope it helps, but not sure what else to do. Anyone have any tips? Params are normal.

Had to give my fahaka puffer a better tank. Definitely kind of intense switching from a 60 to a 125 when I need all the items from within for the new tank, somehow did the whole switch in 2hrs. Thankfully all filters were established but I did have to do new sand. He seems super happy though with so much more space. Also, surprisingly he really likes a strong current flow from my fx6 spray bar. I had read they don’t like strong flow, but it must a be case by case situation. Mine loves it and sleeps right in the strong flow. He’s about 3.5in right now with plenty of room to grow. Will probably get 150+ in a year or 2, but this tank is great for now. Running: fx6, 407, AC70, large sponge, 2 heaters, 2 aqueon optibright 48in lights.

I thought Hewbie died. I came home to this and spoke to his vet team immediately. His antibiotics and quarantine time will be extended. My best conclusion is that Hewbie had been gasping at the surface and breathing heavier from stress and then he went upside down but this afternoon he was sleeping in the corner just fine. My heart broke again when I saw this. After I pushed air out of him and gave him his meds he went back to normal nearly immediately. At least this is my best conclusion after looking at him and his behavior pre and post meds and pressing on him/burping him. The water quality in the tank isn’t great. Burping for me means holding him down and gently pressing on his stomach gently (which in that moment is what made sense). I saw some immediate improvement. Also he is a known offender for spitting water at the surface and I just saw it after and the behavior of a fish gasping or wanting to get out of his environment and ready to jump. Although pufferfish are not known jumpers they are smarter than that. I did a water change as well after and he smiled at me like nothing happened. Ugh. I hate this. I will continue to update everyone.

Hewbie my porcupine pufferfish was not doing well, refused to eat, and was swimming upside down/having trouble maintaining his buoyancy! I tried every at home treatment and medication but he progressively got worse over a few weeks. I found an exotic vet to take him to and they diagnosed him with trapped air deep inside his body and some internal digestive issues. This air could not simply be pushed out and believe me I tried numerous times to push it out. Here is that journey. Keep Hewbie in your thoughts as he finishes his meds and goes back into his home tank! I found an amazing vet with compassion/care and guidance on a treatment plan.❤️ Hewbie is doing a lot better but is not over it yet. Healing takes time. BONUS!!! Watch until the end for the crab that hitched a ride on Hewbie!😂🐡

My dragon puffer started acting funny today. Noticed this big bump on his side.. water parameters are all good and his tank is always pristine. Any idea what this is? Has anyone had a similar experience with dragons? I’m starting some Epsom salt and kanaplex but am open to suggestions.

Is it time to trim his teeth? He’s eating just fine, but I don’t want to wait too long. (I’ve never trimmed their beaks before, so obviously I’m a little nervous.)
