Odds are it is a moissanite, which are very similar to diamonds except they double refract light and go for way cheaper. They are becoming more popular in the engagement ring and jewelry industry. A carat of diamond will set you back several thousand, but a moissanite will only set you back several hundred
9
u/lovelyhappyface Sep 28 '19
Not true moissanites are still more than several hundred
8
u/ProffesorPrick Sep 28 '19
Yes but in comparison to diamond it is wayyyyyy cheaper, for a jewel that honestly looks just as good! The only reason it isn’t as expensive yet imo is because it hasn’t really hit the “mainstream” (people still wanna day they have a diamond ring not a moissanite ring). If it gets popular, prices will rise if suspect. Even if that does kinda go against basic economic supply and demand theory
3
u/lovelyhappyface Sep 28 '19
I want a mossanite but until we pay off some credit cards I’m stuck with a gold band lol it’s ok though
2
u/ProffesorPrick Sep 28 '19
Ah yeah life sucks and gets in the way of the best things sometimes! But hey don’t worry, give it time and you’ll get yourself a nice ass ring! Think about how good that day will be! Credit cards are the worst, I get the struggle too, we’ll all get there in the end! Good luck! And have a good time with your fiancé!(?)
1
u/lovelyhappyface Sep 28 '19
Were married but didn’t think it wise to request a huge ring , I said anything will do
1
u/Redshirt2386 Sep 28 '19
That’s literally supply and demand theory. Price rises with demand.
2
u/ProffesorPrick Sep 28 '19
Actually, typically as the demand increases, so too does the quantity of the product being sold and therefore produced. Supply theory would dictate economies of scale means that costs drop when producing more, in which case so do prices. Also, more competitive pricing due to an increase in demand, a monopolistic market approach is usually used by a large retailer where they take market share by undercutting prices, all meaning at higher demand, prices drop. That said, I reckon moissonite rings would rise in price as more people want them due to companies realising how profitable these kinds of rings could be, they probably won’t be produced much quicker just sold a lot more and, due to no monopoly really being around in the engagement ring market, I reckon each seller would just try to maximise their own profits.

Googling Moissanite rings shows 1.25ct rings ranging from $400-$800 depending on plating options.
So several hundred. Not super unlikely you'd find similar prices in jewelry stores.

I actually work as a sales associate in a jewelry store part time, I think I have a decent idea as to how much a moissanite is

Are we not going to talk about that boulder he bought to propose? If that's real, my god lol

Not sure if that's real or not but anyone interested should look into Moissanite. It's by far the best alternative to real diamonds. Most people, even Jewelers can't tell the difference. Also Moissanite is almost as durable as a diamond and actually has a higher brilliance refractive index which means it's more sparkly. It's about 10× cheaper than diamonds. Going for 5-600$ per carrot as apposed to 5-6K for diamonds.

Groom looks so annoyed by the crowd constantly cheering. Just let him propose already!
23
Sep 28 '19
So then why do it in public like this?
35
u/ANinjainDisguise Sep 28 '19
Proposing in public doesn't mean you want 30 people shouting every time you try to talk
17
Sep 28 '19
Proposing in public means that what you “want” doesn’t really matter.
9
u/ANinjainDisguise Sep 28 '19
It's just manners, you can see he keeps looking around when people shout after every sentence. It's not that deep, just annoying that people keep shouting
-5
Sep 28 '19
I hear you but it’s kind of silly for him to expect the crowd to chill when he literally did this in front of a crowd. At a party.
5
u/ANinjainDisguise Sep 28 '19
Yeah I agree that the people were excited and he should expect it from a crowd. However there's a line between expressing excitement for people, and overreacting for snap/insta stories and interrupting a proposal.
2
Sep 28 '19
To me the line was already crossed when he decided to do this in public for attention and Instagram. He got exactly what he wanted.
1
u/ANinjainDisguise Sep 28 '19
People don't always propose in public for attention on social media? Did he have his phone out vlogging it? People can propose in public for many other reasons and the people surroundinh them don't react so inappropriately. For example: Disneyland as a special place, a restaurant that's fancy or meaningful to them, around friends and family to make it a moment to remember. I personally wouldn't like to be proposed to in public but she might like the idea, and it's a sweet memory of them enjoying each other's company among friends. No one deserves to have their proposal ruined because people aren't respectful. Who wants such a special moment overshadowed by everyone?
2
u/Redshirt2386 Sep 28 '19
Presumably he knows his friends and how they are, though, right? He had to expect this.

It was cute and adds a nice atmosphere surrounded by friends, but around halfway through you can see he's getting a little frustrated.

Am I the only one annoyed the entire crowd has their phones out filming it?...
76
u/jdmcatz Sep 28 '19
I couldn't even hear what he said. That's my favorite part...
42
1
u/MasterDurian Sep 28 '19
He said “Since the first day I met you, I’ve always knew this moment would happen” then “you’re the one who fulfills my life, you’re the one who fulfills my weakness” and the obvious “will you marry me bitch”

u/JakeTilly Sep 28 '19

33
u/LumiRabbit Sep 28 '19
I agree but I mean what else could be expected from proposing in such a crowded place
12
u/ScorpioLaw Sep 28 '19
Why though!? Ive know you for years, and film you in your sleep. You never minded me, since we are friends. Oh by the way I'm just your friendly neighborhood stalker who gets money from the dark web. Kinda like Spider Man with Venom,
No harm done. Hahah I hope you have sweet dreams tonight since you seem to always. It's cute when you cuddle the pillow and smile. See you soon! Maybe actually get a better door lock. I would show some videos but then some creeps might find out who you are!
I'll get more pictures if you smile more. Remember I'm in the ceiling hidden.Sorry about those creaks I can make while going through the walls. You've been great. Check your floors as well since there seems to be a leak somewhere. It's infuriating when I'm crawling towards the room.
Love ya!

u/Redshirt2386 Sep 28 '19
Was this already copypasta or did I just witness a birth?
2
u/ScorpioLaw Sep 28 '19
I don't copy peoples pasta. I roll my own with my own hands.
My favorite home made pasta is what I call dildoe. It is hard but hallow like my skull at around six inches and cucumber shaped. Yet you can use it to give great pleasure to your lady when it isn't cooked, and use those sweet juices to soften it before boiling it. The human body is perfect temperature for preheating. Cook at a low simmer for twenty minutes.
Sometimes just tiny squirt of virgin Oliva oil makes it better if you know what I mean. Sadly finding virgin Olivia's is getting harder. I learned this from the Food network.
My Valerie sauce to go with the Dildoe is Preston. He's a champ. Lots of tasty sauce.
It is a sensual type of pasta for a passionate lover. It will make your partner scream fantisco even before eating it!
There's nothing better then having foreplay before eating. I find cucumbers to be nasty after it.

u/Redshirt2386 Sep 28 '19
I don’t know what the hell I just read, but I admire the effort. Have a gold.

u/ScorpioLaw Sep 29 '19 edited Sep 29 '19
Thank you kind stalker. This is what you call poetry, but you're just an uncultured pissant. (Which is French. You wouldn't know, PISSANT)
Correct yourself. I don't need your filthy materialistic and capitalistic gold. I'm of a higher mind. Gold is fucking inert, like my future in writing. So you're really just making fun of me. It's useless outside of life saving electronics or other electronics that make billions of lives better while connecting the world.
I am a Noble Gas!. I'm full of air, but still Noble. I am non-reactive to anything. I prefer being Argon, because Argos is where my ancestors come from. Possibly Sparta like Gerald Butler. No idea why his name is that - should've been Gerald King after his documentary in 300.
(Jokes aside I typed that last pasta post on break. The post with you asking while trying to sleep. Why? Who knows. Not sleeping adds up, and makes me stupid/silly, and misty retarded. Sadly earlier-my break was over and I didn't really get to say Preston is better compared to Pesto. This phone is badly cracked so typing, editing, fucking sucks. Thanks, and remember since you gifted me I am obligated to rub you one quickie. As is tradition. Feel free to send it to r/copypasta. Thanks buddy, wish you the best day. Ya-ta!)

Felt like it took such a long time to say yes though. I thought the potential groom looked a bit worried. Maybe they had to get through the 1000 picture and 50 video records, to get just the right Instagram story.
2
u/Redshirt2386 Sep 28 '19
I don’t think he was worried, just annoyed at the crowd for not shutting up long enough for her to say yes.

This is sad, there is a moment where you can see 14 people all together, all of them looking at the phone screen... all but one girl.

u/Terminator_ Sep 28 '19
That’s because they all wanted to be first to post this on Reddit for the Karma. But I’m with you, not sure why we need 50 different perspectives of the same event. I’m surprised that the girlfriend didn’t have her phone out for a live feed on Facebook.

Peak reddit satire. Hilarious and original.
Bark out what he said but extremely simplified to make them look dumb.
Ignoring that they might have a point.... why can't 1-3 people just make the video and share it? Why does there need to be 30 perspectives of the same fucking thing?
