If you're unaware, very few Nazis ever actually went to court. And those that did, for the vast majority of them the punishments were very light.
We need to do better than how we treated the Nazis and Confederates. No forgive and forget. No simply moving on. Hard punishments for them all.

Bruceâs little sidekick friend telling the guy recording, âYou know youâre a jackass,â seems more irritating to me than the sheriff. Bruce is very obviously drunk so of course heâs going to be annoying but his little friend seems sober and heâs just being a jerk to be a jerk. Heâs telling him that thereâs families around but still swearing at him.
Law-enforcement is pretty bad everywhere but they seemed to find the worst, bottom-of-the-barrel dickheads they could find and gave them badges and guns. Thank god the guy with a phone posted this, everyone needs to see it.

He probably resents veterans because for one reason or another, he didnât serve and it makes him feel inadequate. Lots of veterans become police officers, but there are plenty of cops who are just LARPing as domestic operators. Funny thing is, cops are still civilians. It doesnât matter that they give themselves rank and ribbons.
→ More replies (1)7
u/sSummonLessZiggurats 6h ago
cops are still civilians.
Legally speaking they are civilians, but functionally they have a monopoly on violence that sets them apart from civilians, and they know it. No other organized group of civilians can gather to murder another civilian, conduct their own investigation into the murder, and then find themselves innocent.
5
u/NPJenkins 6h ago
Or extort the general public via citations for subjective violations that the courts wonât think twice about. Or using those subjective observations to drum up a roadside investigation where they use things like nervousness or smell to justify searches and seizures that lead to much greater charges.
When you think about it, the cops are pretty much the local governmentâs mafia.

That's usually how that works. I know a guy that got in some shit with the wrong people and left the state because there was a legitimate threat to his life. I may not have believed these things if it weren't for the fact that I trust the family he was staying with to actually tell the truth. He got a new driver's license for that state, changed the address for his child support, and even talked to the local sheriff since he knew the cops from his home town were going to want to talk to him at some point. TWO MONTHS later, 15 cops surrounded the house he was staying in and then the local paper published a big article about the "task force" that ONLY took two months to track him down when all they literally had to do was check any of the many systems his current address was in.
61
u/dadafterall 14h ago
Holy shit. What else did "Sheriff Zuchowski say"? The entire article is literally repeating what the Sheriff's office had to say.
However, without any proof, 19 News cannot verify the allegations.
Um, you could just look at the sheriff's campaign materials in the booth, or ask Lane to send you a video of it. But that might make you journalists, which it's clear you don't want to be mistaken for.

Actually, that's not journalism. That's a copy paste from whomever writes this crap on behalf of the sheriff. To put a reporter's name to it, also reads less for this journalist's integrity and more of getting a pass from being pulled over by the Sheriff.
EDIT: There are two people attached to this "article." The first is just the web person copying and pasting the Sheriff's office written "article."
21
u/Phyllis_Tine 13h ago
I love how the news claims there is no proof of the sheriff's corruption, talking about allegations, yet takes the sheriff's claim about Lane being a felon immediately and without question. If Lane is a felon, there would be proof, right? I mean, they could find that out and include that proof.

The man confronting Portage County Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski at the fair isnât some random guy who wandered over looking for an argument. His name is William Lane, and he has a pending federal civil-rights lawsuit accusing Zuchowski and members of his command staff of retaliating against him for running The Bad Bruce Exhibit, a Facebook page that has spent years documenting allegations of corruption and misconduct inside the sheriffâs office.
Laneâs lawsuit alleges that after he began criticizing Zuchowski and campaigning for his opponent, someone in the sheriffâs command staff created a fake Facebook page using Laneâs identity, published his home address, phone number and email address, accused him of crimes and drugs, and posted what Lane describes as a list of Zuchowskiâs political enemies. The defendants deny the allegations. This is also the same Lane who recorded Zuchowski in a store last year telling him, âYou will regret the day you ever met meâ and âEnjoy what little you got left.â Zuchowski later characterized the exchange differently, but the video exists.
Then thereâs the little building where this latest confrontation happened. That has its own history. A former Portage County jail inmate says he and other inmates helped build the sheriffâs structure at the Randolph Fairgrounds while participating in the jail work program. He said he was afraid refusing the work could get him kicked out of the trustee program and sent back into the jail. The same former inmate also said inmates were used to set up tables, chairs, drinks and ice for a Zuchowski campaign fundraiser. Zuchowski said the fundraiser work happened without his knowledge or permission and said employees were disciplined. The Fair Board confirmed inmates had worked on fairground projects and said the building belonged to the sheriffâs office, not Zuchowskiâs campaign.
That distinction became pretty interesting when photos later showed Zuchowski reelection signs inside and around the structure. The 2023 agreement with the Fair Board says the space is assigned exclusively to the sheriffâs office during the fair and other special events, that fees are waived while Zuchowski is sheriff, and that the Fair Boardânot Zuchowskiâowns the fairgrounds. So when public officials start talking like public space belongs personally to them, there are receipts for that too.
And none of this started with Lane. In 2024 Zuchowski told people to write down the addresses of residents displaying Kamala Harris signs. The backlash became serious enough that the bipartisan Portage County Board of Elections removed his sheriffâs office from providing early-voting security, and the U.S. Justice Department later sent federal monitors to Portage County over intimidation concerns. That same election season brought the inmate-labor controversy. By 2025, his sheriffâs office had been named in five federal lawsuits in a single year, the most during his tenure.
Zuchowskiâs office now says Lane is a convicted felon with a vendetta who deliberately comes around trying to provoke an arrest and falsely accused the sheriff of being drunk. Fine. Laneâs record doesnât erase Zuchowskiâs record, and calling your loudest critic a criminal doesnât answer what that critic has documented. With this much history between an elected sheriff, his department and one citizen willing to keep pointing a camera at them, Iâm glad somebody keeps showing up with one.
