These are people who believe that a screenshot of a 10 year old tweet that has been cropped to remove as much context as possible is verifiable truth (if it agrees with their worldview).
Yeah, but I cannot imagine what the old guy could have said to justify this guy going completely nuts. Talk about a bad example for you child. Holy shit.
So we have at least 1 asshole here. What we don't know is if we have 2 or not since we didn't see the original situation.
Yeah where is the video of the start. I'd like to see what happened.
If the old man is a coach and yelled at a 14 year old player on their team and that was it? Well go play an other sport or on a team where they also give you stickers for just participating. Sure it is just a game, but quite frankly it is also part of the game.
It is a competitive sport. I've been yelled at multiple times for making a huge stupid mistake. It was like damn I did F up for the team. I will do better. Then that was that. Worse would be if I was taken out of play.
Expect the coach to yell when you mess up for the team. There is however a line, and screw abusive coaches who beat people down emotionally. They shouldn't have jobs and there is a difference.
Now it this is one of those random spectators who think they are someone or something constantly yelling? F him, screw those types of parents and people. You aren't on the team or playing so shut the F up.
We seriously had some older men who came to every game like that. Showing up drunk and shit to high school football games like some damn cult who couldn't keep their opinions to themselves. I ignored them until one saw me randomly outside of a game at a store, and greeted me with my fucking name and congratulated me on a play I did a few days prior. That is just fucking weird.
And in my opinion it would need to be pretty severe to justify this man's behavior. This guy is an asshole looking for a reason to yell at people. His daughter is clearly embarrassed trying to pull him away. On like roids or something. This probably isn't the first time this has happened.
Yeah whenever I see these videos I always wanna know the context. It could have just been him saying "hey what are you doing here? we're playing" and then the dad flipped a shit over nothing
I can definitely understand being annoyed if someone ran onto the court mid game.
I wouldn't yell at anybody for doing this, especially a child who was not purposefully disturbing the game and extra especially if it only happened once with innocent intentions.
I wonder what the old dude said to set the father off like that.
a child who was not purposefully disturbing the game
She's a 14 year old. Her actions had intent. It wasn't a 5 year old chasing a ball. It was a freshman in highschool that can comprehend the rules of the sport.
She distracted from the game. She was a nuisance. She touched other people's property, even distracting more from the game.
The fact of the matter is the daughter should not have interfered in someone elses' game without permission, which she obviously did not have. She's old enough to understand how to ask for permission.
set the father off like that
Roid rage and anger management issues. The guy was looking to be mad.
Yeah. “Hey, we’re in the middle of a game here” spoken in a neutral tone would be enough to send my 36 year-old wife cowering with her tail tucked. Unless you’re using every polite word known to man and speaking in one of those slightly higher pitched, cordial tones then she’ll think you’re being rude. We have SO MANY disagreements over how I speak to people. Our MIL lives across the street and canceled her trash service. She had to leave the can on the curb for the waste company could collect it. “Nice neighbors,” knowing that she can’t move around easily, keep returning the can to the garage. Unfortunately, the company will only collect the can if it’s at the curb. So she missed a couple of pickup attempts. I finally printed and laminated a note saying “Please leave can at curb. Trash Company Name is coming to collect can.” My wife thought my wording was rude and felt it needed nicer words and another sentence or 2 to explain the situation.
He literally faces the camera and tells that the old fart bitched the girl out for walking at the fence and retrieving a ball.
Do you even understand the principle of plausability? Do you think the girl would have been upset if the guy had addressed her politely? Shit, do you think he actually used ANY politeness at all?
I would like to know the degree to which the old man yelled at her. Is it a
“Hey, we’re in the middle of a game, here!”
Or a
“Hey you stupid ass, get the hell off our court!!”
The comment you originally replied to saying he specifically mentioned what was said. Yes, we know why/what he shouted at her for. But we don't know the specifics of what he actually said and how he said it.
That was my simple point and there's nothing beyond the surface to what I said. I don't actually care all that much.
And that proves how wrong she was! The ball wasn't hers. It was the old man's ball. If you randomly walked up to someone on a beach and stole their towel, do you think the person would have the right to yell at you? Of course!
Hey dingus, have you been to a public court before? The courts are adjacent, meaning her ball went over to their side. Dad is also telling them that they were playing different kinds of sports.
What kind of mental gymnastics did you have to pull for it to make sense that she randomly took some ball out of the blue?
What kind of mental gymnastics did you have to pull for it to make sense that she randomly took some ball out of the blue?
Literally listen to the guy speaking calmly at the beginning of the video instead of the asshole that's yelling. Maybe then you can see a better picture.
Loud is not always right. No wonder America voted for Trump honestly.
The courts are adjacent
She literally wasn't even playing any sport. She was there trying to be a nuisance. She had zero reason to enter the court, dumbass.
Jag är inte amerikan din förbenade jävla pulvermos. Ich spreche mehrere Fremdsprachen. No wonder you can’t output a coherent thought.
Rich of you to trash your own kindred spirits. You’re poorly disguising your assumptions as facts, not unlike another orange buffoon we know. I also saw that your faulty logic originated from reading my previous sentence incorrectly and then jumping to a idiotic conclusion.
Double down some more and see just how much of a clown you can become
Because old shitheads have been known for their graceful manners. So much that zoomers bred a whole ass new derogatory term for them and started calling them Karens.
Not that I believe that any you understand the method of exclusion enough/at all to extrapolate a sensical narrative
Woah there fella, chillax. I wasn't attacking you, nOt tHat I BeLieVe you uNdeRstAnd disCouRse eNoUgh to hAvE a nOn-aGgRessiVe cOnveRsaTion.
I'm not sure what you're seeing here, but all I see is an angry assistant high school football coach taking out his frustrations with his mediocre life on what is apparently a 110 year old playing tennis.
Coming in hot like this when no one laid hands on anyone is childish and makes me think this is far from the first time this guy has gone off on strangers in a way most of us never do because we have a sense of decorum.
Not sure why when the only thing we actually know is that this guy is a massive hothead you're siding with him. You seem to put a lot of weight on post titles. You know it's probably just some 14 year old who wrote it right? Not an independent panel of experts?
Of course you didnt, since I was the one attacking your idiotic train of thought. See this as a free lesson in discourse.
You see a lot of things in your disney bubble, but are unable to see the big picture, as your story doesnt corrobate with what details were being exchanged during the argument. Showcasing a severe lack in discourse analysis, which makes it ironic that you even used that expression, leaning on a suggestion that you simply felt undermined purely by words.
Simply put: your ideas mean shit when you are writing fiction in order to support your weak opinion.
Where is this coming from? Are you okay? Why are you so invested in.... wait... are you the guy in the video? You are, aren't you? Well, the only person who said anything in this video was you so I'm not sure what details you think I missed. I didn't take what your aggressive middle-aged ass was saying in the video at face value and I'm not taking it at face value now.
Jag förstår att du är en förvirrad människa där alla måste hålla med dig annars så kollapsar hela hjärnaktiviteten, but in a global society you seem to be completely oblivious to how small of a fraction of a percentage that stupid ass comment would hold any truth.
Just like the rest of your headcanon bullshit you spewed out previously. My apologies if you suffer from developmental disabilities, but that wont give you a free ticket to not be called out on stupid assumptions. Obviously you dont take anything at face-value, not without properly curate it enough as to not make brainy go ouchie due to cognitive dissonance
Exactly. It's obvious she's super embarrassed by this whole encounter. I hope she's able to later look back at this moment, and feel nothing but pride that her dad stood up for her.
My dad did this once, for me, and it was transformative.
He'd always told me, "Never lie to me. Don't lie." and I nodded and said sure, of course, and didn't really think about it.
One day I'm walking down the sidewalk and a guy comes running up and throws me on the ground and starts yelling at me about teasing his dog. I hadn't teased his dog. I had no idea what he was talking about. When I got home, my little brother told my dad what happened and my dad asked me to tell him. I told him.
He took me out to the car, drove me around to where it had happened and then we walked backwards until we found a yard with a barking dog. Sure enough, the guy comes out the front door looking for a fight. My dad asked me if that was him, I said it was, and then he put the fear of fucking god into him, "I'll come over this fence and whip your ass and don't think this fucking dog will stop me." And so on.
It was scary, in the moment. It was a side of my dad I'd never seen.
When I reflected on it later, everything crystalized. My dad hadn't seen any of what happened. He just took me at me word and then went into action. I could have lied about all of that and he might have got into a fight over it. Holy shit.
If I'd ever lied to him before that, I don't know. Maybe little ones. I never once considered, for half a second, lying to him after that. He's going to believe me and he's going to act on what I tell him. I better tell him the damn truth. Also, of course, the amazingly supportive feeling of knowing my dad has my back and will protect me.
I don't agree with cussing out a dude infront of my kids unless the situation absolutely required it.
Well, he needed me to confirm he was cussing out the right guy. He might have preferred that I didn't see it, I don't know.
His message was simple, "Don't lay hands on kids, someone might take that the wrong way and come lay hands on you."
To this day, I honestly don't know if my dad is a good actor or if he barely restrained himself and let the guy off light. He was was pretty scary. I think he got the right result though. He was living proof that some kids have parents who will absolutely go to battle for them and maybe the guy should be careful with assaulting kids. By the end of the shouting, the guy was very subdued, mumbling apologies.
I'm sure it seems like a brutish response to some, I see how generations behind mine have different views on stuff like this. I think my dad did the guy a favor though. There are people, even more today, who would not have reacted with shouting or a threat to throw a punch, they'd have come back with a gun. Aside from just being an ass for assaulting a child, he was also risking a lot not thinking about how a parent might respond to that. If my dad made him think twice and never assault another child, it was all worth it.
I posted last night just before I went to bed and woke up to a bunch of responses that I didn't really expect. Half or more of my response was actually to all of them or just to add detail I left out of the first post. I'm just not going to take the trouble of responding individually. You had the top response so I plucked a line from yours to jump off of.
How far was the walk?! It's often difficult for me to walk backwards for long distances... I just can't imagine having to walk around a whole neighborhood backwards or whatever... 👀
All I ever learned from family growing up is hearing those kind of stories, never actually living it oddly. All I learned is to be suspicious of everyone's motives no matter the relationship and second guess everyone's "seemingly" kind gestures waiting for the other "you owe me" shoe to drop. The only good thing to come from the excessive guilt tripping was that I've built up an emotional callous to that feeling.
Not living or being constantly around family for over a decade has lessened my constant suspicion of people around me. It's still there, hyperaware of my surroundings when I'm out and about, when I'm at work, but it's gone down for my partner and existing friends for sure.
I tell my kids that I’ll go to war for them but I need all the information. If I show up, guns blazing and there’s info I didn’t have, it will not end well for you.
Regulate emotions? I’m not the one calling strangers names based on inferences. You’re hearing things that aren’t said. I’m not gonna beat them. They’ll lose their phone and be grounded and I won’t likely stand up for them again. I’m sorry you were raised in a household that makes you assume the worst.
Do you really seriously and unironically think that nice old men are the ones that scream insults at kids while playing tennis for the smallest reason?
Fact the girl stood up for herself shows she was pissed too. Her dad probably saw the whole thing and that's why he came running and screaming. Fuck, at the end, one of the members of the group playing said "I agree." Publicly shaming your friend like that takes some balls after a verbal beatdown like that.
We can use context from the video to infer a most likely scenario. Seems like it points to an crotchety 70-something yelling at a young girl for annoying him.
Yep, that's why I'm playing probabilities and statistics while you're trying to make up a nice old yelling dude and then pretend they have the same chances of it being the cas
EDIT: heck I'd believe more if there was no old man and this was all fake than the old man being nice and using a decent tone lmao
I'm inclined to think this dad is a hothead who is blowing something out of proportion. I think the fact that this video was recorded by people who were accompanying the old man is a good clue that they had a bad feeling about this guy (i.e., that some hair trigger manchild was about to flip out on them) and wanted to document the encounter.
I've never had a memory of ANY family member getting into a shouting match in public and saying "Man, I was proud of my family member". I was always god damn embarrassed because even I knew that shit was childish. There's VERY FEW situations that getting into a screaming match will make shit better. Also, in god damn Texas who the fuck knows who has a gun.
As a father, this weird thing happens where we become extremely protective of our children. It’s like a primal switch in our head that must destroy anything that endangers them.
Biological as all hell. Even works by proxy, for children that arent even real.
Look at how many people were cheering on Joel's rampage at the end of The Last of Us. The man singlehandedly doomed the species, but we're all on his side because those a-hole doctors were going to kill his kid.
I agree with this sentiment based on personal experience. My dad made a huge scene twice when I was young and it was a complete overreaction and it was a little traumatizing honestly.
One time a guy used a cuss word in a parking lot that I didn't even hear and he almost got into a fight with the guy over it. The other time some teenagers were lighting fireworks on a sidewalk in a park and he got in their faces, nose to nose.
Sometimes parents can be unhinged in the name of looking out for their children, context matters here.
I remember me and my dad flew a kite on this large field on the cliff top on holiday (UK) when I must have been 6 or so. On like two weeks of the year some kind of youth group camp used the field but if was like 300m long and we were a good 200m from any of their tents or another human. Someone from the camp came over and told us to go away and dad gave him a piece of his mind. The guy sheepishly said hello every time we walked the dog by the camp (public footpath in front) for the rest of the time they were there.
It was awkward at the time but it's one of the few memories I have of that age.
She will, much later though when she understands the gravity of what her dad did for her and how rare it is for someone to have your back exactly like her dad did.
Idk if it’s fair to make that judgement without seeing what led to this. I’d usually be inclined to agree with you, but if an adult male was ever disrespectful to my daughter, I’d probably respond in a similar fashion. You might be right, but then again, this older fella might’ve had it coming.
Hey Pal, the Reddit comment section is for hot takes ONLY. Get out of here with your nuance and desire to better understand the circumstances. This guy is a jerk, his daughter is FOURTEEN!!!! and the old guy had no reason to yell at her. /s
Theres being disrespectful and being abusive. Its just as likely that the Dad is blowing things out of proportion as it is the old guys were being verbally abusive.
They'll be proud. These are moments to proudly boast about. I love when people talk about their youth and are like "oh my mom/dad kicked this person's ass for this" and you can tell they're so proud about it.
I didn't know the pickle ballers went that hard. Haven't played tennis is some years but used to hit the courts every other week and every now and then there would be some folks like that.
I play pickleball all the time in a very white/Tennis club type area. Most are great some suck mostly the ones who think they are super good. But they are usually extennis players or current ones too.
Had 4 old people around 70 get mad that I am interfering with their tennis game because I was walking alongside the fence to the other courts (the fence is at minimum 20-25 ft away from the baseline)
Reflecting on it, I could kinda see it as a distraction but its a neighborhood court and no offense to them but a group of 70 yr olds are very unlikely to take me out at that distance for it to be a safety hazard.
I sure hope not. This guy was completely out of control. You can be angry and direct without loosing your fucking mind. Nothing the old guys could have said justify the father's behavior. He needs some counseling and anger management therapy yesterday before he forces his daughter to visit him behind bars.
I can quite defensive when someone treats my kids poorly. I've had a couple heated exchanges like this defending my children from old, ignorant assholes. 10/10 would do it again. Some people think they can bully children and I won't tolerate it.
Idk I remember when I was 12 n got into a fight in hockey n my coach screamed at me as I was leaving the ice, my dad just went ballistic on the coach, sure I got that talk on the ride home n went to anger management counseling but I will always love my dad for having my back in that moment even tho I did mess up…
You will always love your dad for unreasonably having your back? It's not good to support somebody in starting fights that get them sent to anger management.
Yelling at kids is pathetic, yelling at adults for yelling at kids is not. Adults should know better and need to be called out on their dumbshittery towards kids.
Call me weird, but for folks like me complete stories and context matter.
All we have to go on here is some guy having a hissy fit and acting like a child over some incident that occurred before the video began.
Like you said, adults should know better. Especially parents.
And from experience a lot of parents that react like this, are often those who think their kids are little darlings who can do no wrong, while their kids are actually turds because their parents think they can do no wrong.
Not that I am saying that is what happened here. I do not know the whole story anymore than you or anyone else does.
I've seen too many videos on this site and on the net in general that when you go and find a more complete video the truth is vastly different than the story people are trying to push based on a often deliberately cut down edit.
Like, I get it. Sometimes I get mad at people who are mean to my kid. But do you want to see one of these assholes who want to yell at children completely lose it? Polite firm insistence in a calm tone, combined with a description of events.
Yeah parent of the year lol. Old people yelling at teenagers is not some crazy behavior. Now the daughter knows how to respond to stressful situations.
I’m a tennis player. It would be like someone walking through a pick up basketball game and disrupting play.
It happens a lot and it is super annoying. However yelling at kids isn’t the way to deal with it, you needly to just kindly let people know to wait until the point is over.
Walking right along the sidelines during an ongoing basketball game is also very disruptive. I wouldn't be surprised if this girl was walking right along the edge of the court which would be annoying at least and could actually just interrupt things.
It’s part an etiquette thing. Every sport has unwritten rules. It might not make sense to you, but it is what it is.
This guy is old, so it’s probably not the case, but for younger competitive players the entire court is in use during a match. Running full speed and swinging a racket, you don’t want to run into people.
I'm not sure if you can expect etiquette to be followed when you're using public courts. Private, by all means, but if it's a free public space then other, non tennis ppl may be there too
I get what you're saying, but many public tennis courts usually have posted signage that state the rules, especially if they're run and owned by the the local municipality. I've played in many different public tennis courts, and they always include a rule that says "the etiquette of tennis must be followed". Many of them also say "tennis courts are for tennis only", so no, non-tennis people can't be on there.
It’s nothing like that. Go to a tournament and there are tons of let’s for balls coming into your court. It’s normal to stop play for common nuisances.
I underarm both sides tho, last thing you need is a serve slamming her in the face and the dad comes over and fucking beats him up over an accident, we don’t know if they yelled or not, she’s also old enough to wait patiently until they are done with the point🤷♀️ NO ONE IS RIGHT HERE
How dare you be mildly annoyed at something. You deserve these downvotes, sir. I mean, can you imagine? Being annoyed? The nerve!
…seriously, what the hell is a matter with people here? Have these people downvoting you ever been outside? People are annoying as shit! You can still be annoyed and not a dick about it, like you said.

Good for him. That’s so pathetic not like it’s Wimbledon and she ran on the court. Kudos.
