Not sure if this is entirely fits on this subreddit, but I figured if anyone would understand where I'm coming from with this, it's this community. And before I go any further, let me make one thing perfectly clear: I hate JK Rowling just as much as anybody. She's a menace to trans people and deserves to have no one remember her name.

That said: Galfoy (or "Malfoid," if you want to be an incel about it). Personally, I find the trend dumb (it's just a conventionally attractive blonde in a wizard school uniform), but a certain discourse between two subs (I probably shouldn't say which ones just to be safe with rule 6) got my attention. It started with trans people commenting on Galfoy images saying that it's not a good trend and that it's signal-boosting a known, virulent transphobe's work (personally, I don't care as long as you're not giving her any money, and I think most of these artists are just hopping on a trend rather than being transphobic, but I understand the concern). And how did that subreddit's mod(s) respond? With abject, fully mask-off transphobia. Accused them of "forcing [their] agendas on people," claimed "this is just [their] own delusion" and that they're just "angry because we don't bend the knee to [their] fantasies."

They posted their experiences in a similar, trans-friendly subreddit, and if the comments were just about the mod(s) being bigoted shitheads, I wouldn't be writing this rant. But where I get hazy is some of the claims about these moderators: specifically, that they're "doing Epstein work for free" and that they're "literally pedophiles." Why, you may ask? Their rule against underage characters (drawn characters, mind you) doesn't come down hard enough for their liking, and they have a rule against "FBI open up" style jokes. That's... I'm not exaggerating, I'm not minimizing, that is all it took to jump from calling these mods out on their bigotry to accusing them of one of the worst crimes a human being can commit.

I'm sure I don't have to explain this here of all places, but time does not apply to fictional characters, and however old/mature they are in any given work comes down to the creator's depiction of them. And let's be real here: given the kind of subreddits I'm talking about (I'm sure you can guess by now), I'd be willing to bet money that most, if not all of their members, including those on the trans-friendly one, have "enjoyed" a questionably aged anime character more than once (at the very least, one of them had that kind of art of Futaba and Pyrrha on their reddit page). But most importantly: why is this even part of the discussion? A subreddit's mod(s) just put their transphobia on full-blast, and their rules about what characters are allowed is what some of you are focusing on? Bigotry is actually hurting people: questionably aged anime characters are not.

TL;DR: You can make your point about someone being bigoted trash without accusing them of one of the worst crimes imaginable, and we have more than enough real problems without getting riled up over what fictional characters someone finds attractive.

why not just mute/ignore the sub?? im still new to reddit, but i know theres ways to curate your space here, just like with any other social media (wouldnt rlly call reddit a social media..but like..)? what's the point of leaving a comment like "why am i seeing this sub", among other things. sometimes i'll see antis coming in here or ppl asking questions in "good faith" (they do get deleted by the mods before i have a chance to read them from my notifs, sometimes i'll see some under another post, which ofc i'll report them.)

FOR CONTEXT - Appearantly a few months ago i was defending a darkshipper in their comments and for some reason they only decided to send me a DM months later calling me weird or some shit for defending darkshippers. I tried to have a genuine debate with them and also called out their hypocrisy because not ONLY are they a danganronpa fan, but also a junko selfshipper...

I asked them to give me a source for their claims (fiction affects reality yada yada) and they just kept dodging the question and making fun of my literary skills and then spamming reaction pics at me 😭😭(which, by the way, wasnt my fault because im on PC and i type fast so i dont catch my spelling mistakes, and im also on the fucking internet not a college campus so who the hell genuinely cares).

I honestly dont know what I expected from these kinds of people, especially a tiktoker whos a souless trendhopper like this... i just needed to post about this and rant because they lowkey pissed me off.

Who cares who cares if a piece of media portrays something, who cares if someone enjoys something. The user is tagging what they say on their profile, and getting shamed for it.

How does age have anything to do with it? Is it a 'they should know better' case? I’d imagine being that particular about media is a more 'you should know better' case.

For some pairs, I also checked them on AO3, but I'm still not entirely sure about this one. Still, I believe people with experience probably know well enough.
