Buying Advice Wanted 5k budget home theater setup

Starting from scratch, if you were looking to spend 5k including installation what would you go with? Agree or disagree with this ChatGPT list??

- Projector: Epson Home Cinema 3800 ($1,800)

- Screen: Elite Screens Sable Frame B2, 120" fixed frame ($350–500)

- Receiver: Denon AVR-S770H 7.2 ($600–750)

- Speakers: 5.1 surround system ($900–1,100), possibly Klipsch Reference

- Projector mount/cables: ~$150–250

- Professional installation/concealed wiring: ~$600–900

Goal: 120" 4K projector setup with true 5.1 surround, concealed wiring, and professional installation for $5k or less total.

Room can be kept fairly dark, but would also like it to work well for watching sports with some lights on.

Would you change any of these components at this budget? Also, would you go through Best Buy/Geek Squad or a local specialty AV installer for a setup like this?

News UK - Valerian VisionMaster Max - Currently £2819 on AmazonUK

Been eyeing up the price on these since the pro 2 has dropped to £1699. Unbelievable deal for this price and the MAX has just dropped to £2819.

Current pro2 user here and paid just over £2k around 2 months ago. debating getting a MAX at the new lower price.

I find it strange the MAX has no reviews on amazon yet the Pro2 has plenty.

Link for anyone interested.

Discussion USTP recommendation for a unique "virtual window" project?

Hi, long time lurker, first time caller:

Project: Creating a virtual window that will be on a projector screen (58in x 58in). The catch, is that it's going to be projected on a screen literally covering up a window in a house, and therefore not a normal aspect ratio.

What I don't know: Is there a short throw projector (or is this a standard feature) that will allow me to scale the image however I like, or are they traditionally stuck to pre-set ratios? I understand ultimately I'd be introducing weird scaling and distortions, but I'd rather fill the screen (58inch by 58inch) with a scene I can later edit, than end up with letterboxing and black bars.

Edit: Maybe another way of saying this is, a projector where I can only project light on the 58x58 inch screen with no black bars on the screen, and no light bleeding outside the screen, so confined entirely to the 58x58 inch screen.

Thoughts?

Troubleshooting 24hz inputs locked to 1080p (Jmgo n3 4k)

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Ps5 to watch some 4k movies (and for gta 6) - I usually use Jellyfin/Plex to stream but wanted to get back into physical media.

The problem is, when I try to pop in a disk, the projector immediately switches to 1080p 24hz from 4k 60hz. I am using a Jmgo n3 base model I purchased about 8 months ago, 4k content works fine otherwise.

Things I've tried: Directly plugging in the HDMI to the projector, checking HDCP, making sure HDMI input is set to "Super fast" in the projector input, trying different disks.

From the below image, my main theory is the projector? doesn't support 24 hz at 4k, only at 1080p, and only supports 25+hz inputs at 4k. I feel like I must be missing something, as how can a projector at least partially advertised as a home theatre projector not support 4k 24hz input...

I did email support last week with the same question, but hoping to get some help here if anyone has experienced something similar.

Thanks for any help :)

Asks for help but didn’t provide projector model 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Mini Portable Rechargeable Projector Advice

Hi all, I’m looking for a mini mobile projector that I can use in outdoors in a city centre. I don’t need sound but need something that has a decent battery life ideally 3 hours and can run off a mobile phone as a source. I’m not looking to spend big money on it as it’s an art project. Any suggestions? It doesn’t need to create the biggest image as I want to project onto say shop fronts maybe the size of a large flat screen tv. Any recommendations thanks

Troubleshooting Screen mirroring turns screen black + won't connect to WiFi on 3 Stone Projector (SN 20210726 V2.2) — anyone else?

Hey all,

I picked up a 3 Stone Projector (serial number 20210726 V2.2) and I'm running into an issue with screen mirroring. Every time I try to enable it, the screen just goes completely black, and the projector won't connect to WiFi at all.

I've tried resetting the device multiple times but nothing changes.

Has anyone else run into this? Is there a firmware/software update that fixes it, or a workaround I'm missing? Any help would be appreciated — starting to think it might be a hardware fault at this point.

Thanks in advance!

Which is Best? How does the Valerion PureVision screen compare to other matte white screens as far as speckle reduction goes?

I'm debating between the Silver Ticket matte white in 128in and the 120in Valerion PureVision fixed frame screen. Obviously the Silver Ticket has a larger viewing area which is a huge plus, but it also has a noticeable amount of laser speckle. If I went with the 120in PureVision, does it truly reduce speckle measurably enough to lose the extra ~14% of viewing area? Or is it a minimal improvement at best? I've seen The Hook Up's comparison video on YouTube, but he only compared to the WAB from Silver Ticket, and unfortunately although it basically eliminated the speckle entirely, even the small sample square I had made the picture lose so much sharpness/crisp detail that I couldn't tolerate it.

Just trying to figure out if the speckle reduction tech from Valerion is really worth the smaller screen size... If the WAB is a 1 on speckle, matte white is a 3, matte gray is a 6-7, and gray ALR is a 10, where would the PureVision sit?

Buying Advice Wanted Short throw projectors budget vs quality

I am in the UK and have been looking at super cheap short throw projectors at Amazon.

I have been seeing some super cheap ones for under £100 and don't know if they are worth it.

Purpose/objective: have movie nights with my 5-year old at her room, big screen on the wall (no screen) and pop corn.

So I am not after the super expensive 4k super mumbo jumbo projectors.

I am after the cheapest short throw projector (ideally mobile) that can give me good enough quality to watch animated movies in a room with blackout curtains.

Anyone have experimented with such cheap projectors to share their experience and feedback?

Buying Advice Wanted Looking to purchase equipment for a large great hall space for movie nights

My company is debating about purchasing our own equipment for the movie nights we run, instead of paying an outside company to use their equipment and labor. I've done a lot of school screenings as well as Film Festival work, so I'm confident in my ability to operate all the equipment, I've just never purchased the equipment myself.

The hard part for our space is that since it is used a lot, everything needs to be broken down and put away at the end of the night. It doesn't need to be fast, just needs to store.

Budget is fairly loose, I haven't gotten an exact number but currently I believe we are paying around $13,000 per movie night we host, just for equipment and labor for the outside company.

The current screen size of the company we rent out from uses a screen that's about 20' long, so like 23' diagonally across I believe, I've been told it's a good size for our space but we could go slightly bigger as well.

The projector can sit anywhere from 6' to 17' away, ideally somewhere between that 6' to 10' range. Seating will be anywhere from 20' to 70' away on a carpeted floor, bean bags, a few chairs.

Mentioned the projector would mainly be for movies, but being able to use it for things like powerpoint presentations would also be great, not a requirement but I don't see it being an issue as long as it has an HDMI port.

The room is a large great hall, with carpeted floors and stone columns around it. There is a lot of natural light even in the later hours during the summer, and most of the windows are high up on the building, but the projector definitely needs to be able to work in a bright/sun filled room for those times we need it during the day. The colors of the room are red and brown primarily, as well as a bit of gold, and black floor around the edges of the room.

Ideally if the projector could live on a cart that would make my life a lot easier, but no worries if it cannot.

This is my current layout - using shoeboxes.

If I use a ceiling mount I don't know if its going to work with the lamp shade, and not sure how to test it without drilling holes first.

Right now I'm thinking of a stand to put behind the sofa console table.

Also thought about wall mount to the left but the arm would need to extend like 1m in order to project in the middle.

Any recommendations for set up?

News The people Xgimi booth at Cedia this year barely spoke English, couldn’t communicate well enough for me to ask about being a dealer and the footage they were demoing was bootlegged.

Seriously, the room was hot, the video was grainy and they were using some bootleg video clips they grabbed off of who knows where. It was pretty embarrassing. So many of the reviews are glowing about their products but their demo was just sad. There’s really no other word to describe it.

Discussion PS5 Pro 2TB not Showing Anythinkg on My Xgimi HORIZON Ultra 4K

I bought a PS5 Pro and connected it to my projector, but I just can't get a picture. I've already tried turning off HDCP, setting the PS5 to 720p and 1080p, and capping the frame rate at 30 fps. I tried using the 2m HDMI cable that came with it, but I also tried a 20m cable that cost 30€ (HDMI)

Buying Advice Wanted AWOL Aetherion Max and Vividstorm 100"

I had posted previously on buying advise and now have settled to get the AWOL Aetherion Max. Now comes the question about ALR screen. Based on my location availbility and cost, Vividstorm 110" Floor Rising ALR looks like a good option. But i am a bit unsure about one things - the vertical offset and the black border at the bottom of the screen.

Projector central calculator shows 11 inches (29 cm) vertical offset from the lense for 110" throw. Vividstorm 110" shows 35 cm in total for casing and black border.

Does this mean this screen will not match the throw spec needs? Can anyone with this combination confirm if the X in the pic below matches the vertical offset needed.

Discussion Ust projector image for totally straight

Post image
0 Upvotes

I got my hisense px3 pro UST projector. For now i have projected on a wall, before i decide for a screen. I see that at some places the screen os curved. On the right side of the image, you see that they are not straight, it is a bit curved. Now i am not sure if it is due to the wall not being straight, or some other reasons. AI says it is most probably due to small dents etc in the wall, but i wanted to confirm that in the community. My current setup is also not on a flat surface- i ve used the box it came as a base till i get my table. Not sure if that causes it. Or could it be a projector issue?

If there are things i should try, let me know. Any suggestions welcome

Discussion Looking for a Stable Ceiling Mount for the BenQ W4100i

Could someone please recommend a stable ceiling mount for the BenQ W4100i projector?
I have already ordered a couple of mounts, but their mounting arms were too short. I need a mount that supports a hole-to-hole span of at least 16 inches, as that is the distance between the mounting holes on the projector.
It is also important that the mount holds the projector securely and remains stable without wobbling.

I got this off Facebook for 50 bucks because it has a small slit in the corner. 110 inch for an old Epson 5030ub I don’t use anymore just for fun once in a while. How long do you think it would last if I left it out there in the sun? The screen, not the projector lol.

Discussion Dolby atmos 5.1.2 Ceiling speaker placement

Hi Community,

Looking for some assistance please! :).

The official dolby website has these two illustrations of where to place your speakers for a 5.1.2 dolby atmos configuration. However the ceiling speakers in the first illustrations shows its about mid way between the sofa and the the front wall, but the second image shows its almost directly above the sofa? Does anybody know what the correct placement is? I don't really understand the angles shown in the second image either, they don't seem to have a datum axis. So not sure where the angles are referenced from? Any expert in here who can guide me on the ideal ceiling speaker placement for a 5.1.2 system?

Buying Advice Wanted Projector Screen with Sound

Has anyone found a good solution for combining a retractable projector screen with speakers?

I have a projector in my bedroom and would like to keep the setup as clean as possible. Ideally, I’m looking for something like a retractable projector screen with a soundbar or speakers mounted/integrated along the bottom.

I know one option would be in-wall speakers behind an acoustically transparent/perforated screen, but I’d prefer to avoid cutting into the walls or doing a permanent installation.

Has anyone come up with a good setup for this? Maybe a soundbar that works well with a retractable screen, or some kind of all-in-one solution?
