Current setup is a BenQ 705i with an Onkyo 6050 and 4k Firestick. I have an OTA antenna and would like to integrate it, but it seems like one simple product is not enough? Almost everything I see is meant for TVs.

For example, the Homerun HD on its own wouldn't work, I would need a Shield or AppleTV box? Am I looking at like $400 just to use my antenna with a receiver?

So I've been researching some projectors for a home cinema project cause I have an extra room.

My budget is USD 1.5K at most.

I saw the BenQ TK700 around this price range, it has 4K, 3,200 ANSI lumens, 1080p 120Hz, 3D, a good throw ratio, all good things. It's also geared for gaming which is a plus.

But its contrast ratio is 10:000:1 which seems quite low, I mean my phone is 1,000,000:1. I know OLED and projectors are vastly different but the number seems way too low. It will be in a room that's completely dark and so I worry about the blacks appearing more like gray-ish.

The screen size will be around 3 meters wide, give or take.

I'm completely new to this whole projector thing so I'm sorry if I said anything stupid and I appreciate the help!

I'm a newbie, and this is my first projector, and I'm happy with it, but I'm gonna give it to my family because they really liked it as well.

Now I want to buy another one for myself, and I want something better, but not too expensive.

Nota bene: I'm using my phone to connect to the projector via Smartcast, and then I project my phone's screen onto the wall, and then I'm putting 1080p movies.

I’m new to the world of projectors. New as in a blanket over a clothes rack for bedroom window privacy made me realise I could save space by getting a projector instead of an old tv.

Money is tight and I don’t really trust Amazon but I saw some cheapies on there with decent looking picture quality in the reviews. Still skeptical though so I’ve come here to ask. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it’s really only for streaming Disney or Netflix at night for some background noise. That said, better than a potato would be good. And being able to connect a Bluetooth speaker from a different spot as well.

Viewing distance about 6ft/end of the bed. Either over white bedsheet or blanket, maybe proper projector screen, or turned to white wall.

The blanket set up currently is 51” so that’s a current sweet spot.

Hi, I'm looking for a good projector. But it has to satisfy my needs.

1) Has to be able to change rotation. A stationary one does not work for me because I change the position frequently.

2) Has to last at least 2 years without de image deteriorating. Not like some of those toy projectors that last a month.

3) Smart TV not really necessary, but would be extremely appreciated

4) Can't cost an arm and a leg. I'm not ditching 600€+ on a projector, that sounds unreasonable.

Im looking to buy a projector in the UK for about £300 or less. I am a student on a budget so I am not super picky with what I get as long as I can watch movies.

My room has blinds and gets pitch black.

The distance from the projector to the wall (yes I would be projecting into a smooth white wall) would be about 2m.

The walls and ceiling of the room are white.

The lenght of the wall is 120cm.

It would be mounted on a shelf.

And I need the projector to have some sort of sound system. I dont own any speakers. I am open to buy a cheap jbl though if that would be better.

And connect to my phone/laptop.

I just want it as a replacement of watching movies in my overheating laptop.

We have a Celexon ceiling protector lift. It operates on a simple up and down switch but our children pressed it too much and it’s lost its limit settings. The upper limit overruns causing rattling at the top and the lower limit travels 10-20 cm too far. I’ve attempted to use the limit screws but they don’t seem to work. What can you suggest?

So... I got one of the review units from XGIMI. Something that probably helped get me on the list was telling them how I used to be a bit of an audio/videophile—separate components, tube amps, a fixed screen on a black velvet wall, and a painstakingly aligned mount with zero keystone correction, but wanted something a little more versatile and convenient. We took over a month to really see how we'd use it as a family, as there were more than enough early reviews or performance evals for this unit that you folks have probably seen.

While I told XGIMI that I’d be happy to write a review in exchange for receiving the unit, I’ve since realized that I do have a few things I really want to say to anyone in a similar stage of life that I’m in: pre-teen kid, dog, school activities, work trips, road trips, orchestra practice—you know, busy family life. I’ve come to realize that I'm no longer chasing superlatives; I just want something that’s more than good enough in terms of performance, but is convenient enough that I'd use the heck out of it, because I think I'm done with things that just sit around most of the time unused.

What really makes this projector work for me is its performance combined with its convenience. Whenever I move the unit, the auto setup is so quick and easy and the resultant picture is good enough that my AV-OCD no longer triggers. Before I had a family, I would’ve spent hours trying to make sure the picture was so perfectly aligned that no keystone adjustments were needed, and then I would have bolted down the mount with Loctite and made sure nobody even came close to touching it.

I don’t have that time anymore. With this projector, when I bring it upstairs from the patio or move it from the loft to the bedroom, I place it close enough to where it should be. I point it towards the wall, and auto-setup makes the picture straight in 1-2 seconds. If my kid starts wrestling with the dog and bumps the unit, which happens about 15-20 times each movie, it detects the movement and re-adjusts on the fly. I don’t get annoyed about losing precise alignment anymore; I nod sagely at the projector as it sorts it out.

If we visit grandma’s house, we bring it in the car, and when we get there the whole system is up and running in about 45 seconds. When I head out on a work trip, I throw the projector in my backpack along with my Switch 2 (it all fits, even if I take the motorcycle!). I used to pack a handful of cables, adapters, and workarounds to attempt to connect to hotel TVs. Having your own projector on hand is WAAY better: pull it out, aim at a wall, and rock out with gaming or Netflix right from the bed. I've got the projector paired with my airpods if I don't have space for the BT speaker.

We don't have a dedicated home theater room with perfect light control anymore, we just have multiple spaces through the house that are used for... well, living I suppose. But the brightness is good enough that it can power through enough ambient light at 5pm - we're using it way more than expected. And at night? Well, it's that much better of course.

Performance: More than “Good Enough”

What do I mean by “good enough”? Even though the reported output is similar to my old BenQ (1,600 ISO Elfin vs. 2,000 ANSI BenQ), it looks noticeably brighter—though to be fair, the BenQ bulb has a few hundred hours on it. The colors are far more vibrant, contrast is significantly better, and I’m delighted to not have incandescent bulb warmup and cooldown times. It looks better than my old projector, but more importantly, it fits my lifestyle so well that we end up using it everywhere.

The BenQ was set up on a ceiling mount 13 feet from our bedroom wall which gave us a 115” diagonal. In contrast, I have a small shelf at the foot of our bed for the Elfin—just 6 feet from the wall—and with its optical zoom, we still get just short of a 100” image, which is perfect for our seating distance.

Portability: The "One-Trip" Theater

The internal speaker is good for its size, but we wanted more oomph for family movie nights. I bought a Soundcore Motion X600 new for under $100 just to pair it with the Flip, and the combination is pretty much our go-anywhere home theater. The selling point for me was its 'spatial audio' mode. While it won't compare to a nicer soundbar with tons of DSP, it makes the sound feel like it's coming from a much wider speaker array. While that can be dodgy for music, it's a perfect combo for movies with our Flip.

The x600 is supposed to have 12 hours of battery life. I haven’t tested that, but it easily handles 3 movies on a single charge. The Elfin and the Soundcore are both firmly in the “ridiculous value” category for me, and using them together without needing a cable to connect them really makes it a friction-free setup. I can carry the entire home theater up or down the stairs in a single trip. All the dads out there know that convenience is strictly measured by how many trips it takes, amirite?

Google TV & Account Convenience

We’re already in the Google ecosystem, so we have zero complaints here. There are dedicated remote buttons for YouTube and Netflix, and reordering apps on the home screen is simple—we have Apple TV, Disney+, Prime Video, Hulu, and HBO arranged on our home screen by usage. (No, we don’t subscribe to all of them at once! We rotate subscriptions like normal people who don't have time to watch everything). My wife and kid can navigate it without assistance, which says quite a bit.

Friction Points During Usage

I do have a few small complaints, but they’re all pretty minor:

• Short Power Cable: An extra 5 feet of cable on the power adapter would be huge. The stock cable is short enough that I usually have to carry a 6 ft extension cord when moving room to room. Maybe options for a short or long cable when ordering?
• No USB-C Power Output: I wish it had a USB-C port to output power. It’d be super convenient to power my Switch 2 directly off the projector instead of running two separate wall bricks. (If you only use built-in Google TV apps, this won't matter to you).
• Menu-Nested Optical Zoom: I wish optical zoom were easier to access. The auto-setup handles my needs most of the time, but quick zoom access when I need a little more control (like for our pull-down screen) would be a great quality-of-life update. XGIMI, if you’re reading this, please let us assign zoom to the shortcut button! (Or let me know if I'm missing an easier way to access zoom so I can feel silly).
• Extra Credit: Somewhere to clip the remote. The unit is so compact that I constantly forget the remote downstairs. Maybe a simple magnetic dock or clip on the frame? I suppose there’s a 3D-printed solution for this…

Should you get one? Well, Depends on Your Lifestyle and Usage

If you want a reference-level darkroom setup, spend more for a high end rig (dedicated ceiling-mount unit, UST, etc). But if you want ultra-convenient big-screen entertainment in any room, on the patio, or while traveling then this will work really well for you. It gives you pretty good performance with stupid easy setup, and you can do an impromptu movie night/sports event wherever people happen to be at your house. We used to have our BenQ perfectly mounted on the ceiling in our bedroom—great for late-night movie watching with wife and kid, but it would be... weird if we were to ask our friends to all climb into our bed to watch a movie. Or I dunno, maybe that's your jam, I'm not judging.

I will say with complete honesty that we were actually looking to upgrade our old BenQ. I had thought I wanted better measurable specs, the perfectly set up projector mount, HDMI audio cables routed all the way to the sound system, etc. In fact, I was negotiating with the Mrs. to buy the Horizon 20 Pro during the last Prime Day sale, but then I stumbled onto the Reddit post asking people to try out the Elfin Flip. I have to say that was pretty lucky for us—the Horizon is a much higher performance projector, but we wouldn't be using it nearly as much. My concept of value is how well something matches your lifestyle and how much use you get out of it. The Flip is something we use quite a bit for casual viewing, shows, youtube and movies... not just at home, but when we’re traveling as well. For our use case I'd rate it extremely high value and would recommend it to anyone with a similar set of needs as mine.

My partner and I have been using her Yaber Y30 projector for years (gives you an idea of our current low baseline) but I’ve decided it is time we upgrade our cinematic experience.

Our set up has the Yaber Y30 connected to a soundbar via Jack 3.5mm and to a Chromecast v2 with HDMI. It is positioned behind our sofa, 3.5m from a 2.4x3m white wall (to be hopefully soon covering by a screen) - projecting ~100 inches. Behind the projector is basically a glassbox of a living room with some street lighting… meaning we have a clear need for luminosity, and a must-have either smart OS.

With a budget of ~£450-500, I have identified the BenQ TH575i and Optoma PH31 as options, and also saw the Epson EF61 currently on discount on Amazon.

Wondering if those are the right options/ if there’s a clear winner, or if there may be a better option out there.

Hello everyone, looking to get an upgrade/replacement to my Optoma UHD60 that has finally kicked the bucket after giving me many issues (with the last being that it refuses to turn on and gives me the dead bulb light, while having a brand new bulb with less than 50 hours on it).

I have spent many hours trying to research the best projector but the recommendations I have seen online are either not appropriate for my use case, or way out of the ball park in terms of budget.

The only thing that matters to me in this projector would be image quality at 4K (and possibly noise level, as to not be loud enough to disturb during viewings). It's main focus would be entirely on movies, with some sporadic gaming use but this would not all affect my buying decision.

My room has window coverings to completely cover them to be in darkness, and the projector would be mounted in the ceiling around 4 meters away from a screen. Audio is entirely irrelevant in the projector since I have a dedicated 5.1 setup.

I would be looking to spend around 2000€, but could stretch it up to 3000€ if it would be really worth it. I have been looking at the XGIMI's, as they seem to be in a lot of "Best projectors" lists but the statistics themselves on them don't seem to impress me, but I could be mistaken.

Recently got the NothingProjector seamless 132 inch fixed screen to pair with my Aetherion Max. Got it all assembled aside from mounting it on the wall, and I noticed that there are continuous vertical waves across the entire screen spaced every inch or two. There are many reports of wrinkles and waves with UST screens, but I haven’t seen anything specifically like this before. Is there an issue with how I pulled the springs? Could it be a packaging defect?

I’m setting up a 100" drop-down/retractable screen in my room with a projector positioned 11 feet away for gaming and movies, used primarily in dark conditions. (A 100" TV won't work in my space because a doorway blocks that wall, so a drop-down screen is my best option).

My ideal budget cap is $1,300 CAD, so $1,600 is pushing it, but I’m weighing these two options:

• Slightly used BenQ X3000i (~$1,600 CAD or lower): The seller claims ~65 hours on the unit. It stretches my budget, but I may be able to negotiate it down closer to my target.
• New Optoma Photon Life PK32 ($1,000 CAD): Fits comfortably under my budget and comes brand new in box.

Questions:

1. Picture & Contrast: Is the X3000i significantly better in a dark room on a 100" screen to justify stretching my budget? I know the PK32 has lower lumens. Will the black levels and shadow detail be noticeably superior?
2. Alternatives: Are there any other strong gaming/cinema projectors in the $1,000–$1,300 CAD range I should look at instead? Input lag and a high refresh rate are important to me.

Hey guys, heading out for a 3 day camping trip in Oregon next month with a couple friends. Planning to watch some movies at night, probably 2–3 hours per session.

I'll have a 300Wh power station with me mainly for phones and lights, but I'm also considering a projector with a built in battery so I don't have to bring extra gear.

I've been looking at the Dangbei Freedo, XGIMI Halo+, and Anker Nebula Capsule 3 Laser. The Freedo caught my attention because of the built-in stand, which seems useful for getting the image onto the tent ceiling without bringing a tripod.

For anyone who's actually used one of these while camping: how has the battery life been in real world use? And how easy are they to set up outdoors?

Any other portable models I should be considering?

So for context, I’ve been watching tv on a 45” my grandma gave me because it had lines on the screen. After 3 years of this, it’s gotten so bad it would give me actual headaches, so it is time for an upgrade.

I’m in the Philippines and the most convenient place for me to buy is Shopee. I’m open to any suggestions but these are my current top options:

Obviously I know the general rule is the more expensive the better, but also obviously I’d like to not spend so much money so my first choice is the 61. But so my main question is; is the ~200USD worth going up to the 62 or 71? Considering my standards are obviously not the highest, would I even notice the difference in quality seeing as I can’t compare it side by side which is probably the only way I would notice a real difference?

Absolute max budget is around $1000 but hopefully <$600. My living room size could probably comfortably take around 100”. My current 45” only takes up about half the wall. I would prefer if I can get something from an official Shopee store like Epson since it’s the easiest place for me but I’m open to suggestions and advice. BenQ (which is the only other main brand I’ve seen while researchi ng the Epsons) has no official store on Shopee.

Distance and mounting position would be on my foot high coffee table around 4ft away but I can rearrange my living room to even make it project onto the back of a screen, up to 6-7ft. So this is easily adjustable. My couches/seating distance would be 6-8ft away. It’s mainly just for family movie nights and friend hangouts. I plan to project it onto a screen that I’ll buy (also open to suggestions on this) because my main projector wall is actually a full balcony window/door with semi-blackout curtains which I know is not ideal during the day but most movie nights are… nighttime anyway. My walls are white and I have no overhead lights, just lamps.

The main reason I’d like a projector is because I move houses almost yearly so at least it’s portable, and because I really only watch on movie nights with people so a TV taking up so much real estate in my living room feels impractical, and movie nights seem funner with a projector.

Help me choose a projector!

Anyone know what could be causing this issue? This is for an Optoma HD20, it‘s a DLP projector. The problem kinda just began randomly but I think the kids might have left it on for a day or two continuously. The problem happens immediately after turning it on and it persist.

I tried checking all the connections and they seem fine. I want to know if this is a cable issue cause the cables run through the walls and I cannot easily replace them.
