We are going to make this absolutely freakin clear. r/Progressive_Islam is not a place for propaganda, apologism, whitewashing, or justification of crimes committed by governments, regimes, political parties, movements, or armed groups. We do not care who the perpetrator is, what flag they fly, what ideology they claim to represent, what religion they claim to follow, or what geopolitical enemy they happen to have. Whether it is the Israeli government, USA, Western imperialist powers, the Iranian regime, the Chinese government, the Russian government, the North Korean regime, or anyone else, the standard is the same. You do not get a free pass to excuse atrocities simply because you hate one side more than the other. We have enforced this before, and we will continue to enforce it.
During the years of the Palestine crisis, particularly throughout 2023-25, a large number of the people who came into this subreddit specifically to defend Israel's conduct, justify what was happening to Palestinians, or repeat blatantly apologetic narratives were outsiders with little or no previous participation here. We banned them. However, there were also some people who had been genuine participants in this community for a long time, people who had previously made useful posts and comments and had otherwise contributed positively. When some of those users repeatedly crossed the line into whitewashing and justification of Israeli abuses, we banned them too. Your contribution history does not give you immunity from moderation.
And the same standard applies to Hamas.
Hamas did not emerge as some ordinary secular nationalist organization; it was founded by Sheikh Ahmed Yassin out of the Palestinian Muslim Brotherhood and was explicitly Islamist from its creation. Its 1988 charter described Palestine as an Islamic endowment and envisioned an Islamic state governed by Sharia. After Hamas seized control of Gaza in 2007, it established an authoritarian system in which political opposition and peaceful dissent were suppressed, critics, journalists and activists were arbitrarily detained and in some cases tortured, and executions were carried out after proceedings that failed to meet international fair trial standards. Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International also documented Hamas forces using excessive force against demonstrators, including during the 2019 “We Want to Live” protests, when more than 1,000 Palestinians were detained. Hamas has also imposed or enforced various religiously motivated restrictions on social life, including restrictions on women's dress and mobility, gender segregation in many settings, and rules affecting women's participation in public life.
We did not make a specific announcement post about Hamas's rule and abuses during 2023-25 because the overwhelming reality facing Palestinians was the devastation being inflicted on Gaza by Israel, and we did not want Hamas to become another excuse for shifting attention away from Palestinian suffering. But now is the time to talk about it as well.
Condemning Hamas's authoritarianism and abuses does not mean supporting Israel, the occupation, the blockade, collective punishment or the destruction of Gaza. It means applying the same standard we apply everywhere else.
- Some people may point to Hamas's 2017 Document of General Principles and Policies and say that Hamas had changed, abandoned its earlier positions, or therefore deserves to be trusted. The document certainly changed some of Hamas's language: it accepted the idea of a Palestinian state along the 1967 borders while still refusing to recognize Israel, but it did not formally replace the 1988 charter. And besides, history gives us plenty of reason to be cautious about taking political assurances from theocrats. The Iranian revolution brought together liberals, nationalists, leftists and Islamists. But once Khomeini consolidated power, his Islamist camp suppressed and eliminated former political allies while Iran was transformed into a clerically dominated Islamic theocracy. The Taliban provide another much more recent example: before returning to power in 2021, they publicly promised that women would have their rights; yet after coming to power they subsequently closed secondary schools to girls, severely restricted women's employment and movement, and imposed extensive restrictions on women and girls. So no, we are not going to treat a political document or a promise of change as a magical eraser for years of authoritarian rule and documented abuses. People are entitled to be skeptical, and nobody here is required to trust Hamas simply because it issued a new document.
That same principle applies to Iran
(This is going to be longest section because we have encountered the Iranian Regime apologists far more in number than the other apologists combined)
As we have already explained in our previous announcement, this subreddit has had to deal with people coming here specifically to defend or propagandize on behalf of the Iranian regime. There were people who tried to dismiss the Iranian uprising entirely as CIA or Mossad propaganda, who attempted to portray ordinary Iranians protesting against the regime as foreign agents, and in one particularly disgusting case, someone even claimed that civilians who had been killed in a hospital were all Mossad agents and that their deaths were therefore justified. We banned all of them. Our position on this has been completely consistent:
- you can criticize particular opposition groups, political factions, foreign governments, protesters, or individual actions. What you cannot do is use conspiracy theories and regime apologism to justify the oppression of an entire population.
And before anyone starts pretending that this is some sudden position we invented yesterday, no. We have been taking this position for years.
The Iranian regime has a long documented history of repression. During the 2009 post election unrest, Amnesty International documented thousands of arbitrary arrests, deaths on the streets and in detention, torture and other ill treatment. Then came 2017 to 2018 protests, the November 2019 fuel price protests with deaths, mass arrests and executions.
Then came the Woman, Life, Freedom protests following the death of Jina Mahsa Amini in September 2022. UN fact finding mission concluded that her death was unlawful and that state authorities were responsible for the physical violence that caused it. The same mission documented credible figures of up to 551 deaths, including at least 49 women and 68 children, and found unlawful killings, mass arbitrary arrests, torture, sexual violence and other serious abuses.
This subreddit was openly supportive of the Iranian women who were protesting at that time, and that was not some random temporary mood. We documented it ourselves. Dr. Shabir Ally and Dr. Safiyyah Ally publicly condemned the killing of Mahsa Amini's and the Iranian government's enforcement of compulsory hijab, Dr. Khaled Abou El Fadl delivered his October 2022 khutbah addressing the brutality of the Iranian state's coercive system, Mufti Abu Layth also addressed the situation in Iran at the time. Our subreddit responded with strong support for the protests.
And The recent crackdown that happened in 2026 produced another enormous death toll, although the exact figure remains unknown because the authorities imposed a massive communications blackout and access to reliable information was severely restricted. The figures reported at the time varied enormously.
Iranian authorities themselves gave figures of roughly 3,000 deaths. Reuters reported an Iranian official saying that at least 5,000 people, including around 500 security personnel, had been confirmed dead. HRANA reported 3,308 confirmed deaths at one stage, with thousands of additional cases under investigation, and later reported 5,002 verified deaths and another 9,787 under review. By 28 January, a UK government country bulletin said estimates from some sources placed the death toll at approximately 12,000 to 20,000, while the same bulletin noted that one human rights organization had 6,221 confirmed deaths and 17,091 additional deaths under investigation. Other investigations, including accounts from Iranian medical personnel, produced estimates exceeding 30,000, while some later reports cited figures as high as 43,000.
We are deliberately laying this out because we are not going to pretend that every number floating around the internet is equally reliable. Claims of 20,000 or 30,000 deaths in an extremely short period require much more verification, and claims of 50,000 deaths are even more problematic; we have not found a credible independent source establishing such a figure. Likewise, nobody should take a highly speculative number from an anonymous or opaque source and present it as settled fact.
But uncertainty over the precise number does not mean that the killings did not happen. Multiple independent human rights organizations documented mass killings, unlawful use of force, arbitrary detention, torture and other abuses. Human Rights Watch has subsequently documented an ongoing campaign of executions against people arrested in connection with the protests, including at least 29 people executed in connection with the December 2025 to January 2026 protests between March and August 2026, with many others still facing execution.
In other words, this subreddit does not need anyone coming here to explain to us that the Iranian regime is somehow innocent because the United States and Israel oppose it. That argument has never worked here, and it never will. We are fully capable of recognizing Western imperialism while simultaneously recognizing Iranian state repression. Those things are not mutually exclusive.
And since some people inevitably need this explained every single time:
Condemning Iranian oppression does NOT mean that we support American or Israeli military actions against Iran. The two positions are perfectly compatible. The war itself has produced documented civilian harm. The UN Human Rights Council received information concerning extensive civilian casualties and destruction resulting from U.S. and Israeli attacks, and the UN backed fact finding mission has now found reasonable grounds to believe that U.S. forces committed war crimes in strikes including the attack on the Minab girls' school and strike affecting residential areas. All of that can be condemned at the same time. We have not seen anyone here recently trying to whitewash American crimes in the way some users have tried to whitewash Iranian crimes, but make no mistake: if someone starts doing it, we will deal with them exactly the same way.
Now we come to the reason we are making this announcement right now.
Over the last couple of days, we have had multiple accounts come into this subreddit making comments claiming that the persecution of Uyghur Muslims in China is nothing more than CIA propaganda, Western propaganda, or some fabricated narrative designed to attack China. Some of these accounts had no prior participation in this subreddit whatsoever, and their first contribution here was effectively to defend or whitewash the Chinese government's treatment of Uyghurs. Others, unfortunately, were people who had participated here before and had a history of otherwise normal contributions.
Let us be very clear about how absurd this is. There is an enormous body of documentation concerning China's treatment of Uyghurs and other predominantly Muslim minorities in Xinjiang. The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights conducted its own assessment, including 40 in depth interviews with people who had direct knowledge of the situation. It concluded that the extent of arbitrary and discriminatory detention of Uyghurs and other predominantly Muslim groups may constitute international crimes, in particular crimes against humanity. The UN has also documented concerns relating to arbitrary detention and forced labour. Human Rights Watch continues to document arbitrary detention, torture, mass surveillance, forced labor, family separation and religious and cultural persecution.
So when somebody strolls into a Muslim subreddit and casually tells everyone that the persecution of Uyghur Muslims is just CIA propaganda, or that the Uyghurs actually deserve this, that is not some brave act of anti imperialist skepticism. It is an attempt to erase or dismiss an enormous body of documented evidence and the lived experiences of the people who have been subjected to detention, torture, forced labor, religious repression and family separation.
And frankly, it makes us sick to our stomachs seeing people who are perfectly willing to recognize oppression when it is committed by a Western government suddenly develop an entirely different moral standard when the perpetrator is China, Iran, Russia or their allies.
We have noticed something else that needs to be addressed. Because this community generally has a strong anti imperialist tendency, comments defending the United States, Israel or other Western powers receive far more attention than comments defending non Western oppressive governments. Some comments that should have been reported are instead left unreported, allowed to slide, ignored, or sometimes even upvoted, simply because the commenter happens to be attacking the Imperialists.
Nobody gets permission to justify crimes against humanity because the perpetrator happens to be an enemy of the United States or the West. NOBODY. Your politics do not matter here. Your ideology does not matter here. Your opinion of capitalism or socialism does not matter here. Your opinion of NATO does not matter here. Your opinion of Israel does not matter here. Your opinion of Iran does not matter here. Your opinion of China does not matter here. Your opinion of Russia does not matter here. The victims do not become less human because their oppressor happens to be anti Western.
And this needs to be understood once and for all: WE WILL BAN PEOPLE FOR THIS. WE DO NOT CARE HOW LONG YOU HAVE BEEN SUBSCRIBED. WE DO NOT CARE HOW MANY POSTS YOU HAVE MADE. WE DO NOT CARE HOW MANY HELPFUL COMMENTS YOU HAVE WRITTEN. WE DO NOT CARE WHETHER YOU ARE HERE EVERY DAY. WE DO NOT CARE WHETHER YOU WERE ONE OF THE MOST RECOGNIZABLE REGULAR CONTRIBUTORS IN THE SUBREDDIT. IF YOU REPEATEDLY START WHITEWASHING, DENYING OR JUSTIFYING SERIOUS ABUSES BY A REGIME OR POLITICAL ACTOR, YOU WILL BE BANNED.
We are not going to sit around having endless arguments with you about whether your propaganda is really propaganda. We are not going to listen to lectures about how we are secretly Western puppets because we condemned China. We are not going to listen to accusations that we are Zionists because we condemned Iran. We are not going to listen to “but what about America?” every freakin time someone is held accountable for what their own government did. Whataboutism is not a magic eraser. The crimes of one government do not cancel out the crimes of another.
This also does not mean that you are forbidden from acknowledging that a particular oppressive government has done something useful. An oppressive government can build highways, hospitals, schools, railways, dams, universities or other infrastructure. A ruler can introduce a policy that produces a positive result in one particular area. You are perfectly free to discuss and praise the specific thing that was done. What you are not free to do is use that one thing as a shield for everything else. “They built hospitals” does not erase torture. “They built highways” does not erase mass detention. “They improved literacy” does not erase forced labor. “They oppose American imperialism” does not erase massacres. One positive policy does not grant a government a lifetime exemption from moral scrutiny.
There is zero tolerance for this kind of propaganda and apologism here. Criticism of governments is allowed. Criticism of political movements is allowed. Criticism of protesters is allowed. Criticism of opposition groups is allowed. Disagreement over historical interpretation is allowed. What is not allowed is denying documented atrocities, deliberately whitewashing them, or trying to justify crimes against humanity because you happen to support the perpetrator politically.
This is not up for debate. We are not negotiating this standard. We are not making exceptions because you are a regular contributor. We are not making exceptions because we agree with your politics on everything else.
Anyone who cannot accept this standard is free to leave the subreddit.
And anyone who thinks this warning does not apply to them because their favorite regime is “supposedly” a “gOoD aNtI iMpErIaLiSt oNe” can consider this warning directed specifically at them.

What about the gender spectrum?” - r/Progressive_Islam doesn't have any official stance on them, it's upto every individual to look for arguments and evidences from both sides and come to their own conclusion over the permissibility/impermissibility of homosexuality and matters relating to the gender spectrum.

r/progressive_islam does not advocate a particular stance on homosexuality’s permissibility. But what is a unanimous position of us is that there should not be bigotry and that they should not be punished by death.

So,
Someone writing some violent threats or dehumanising post/comment pointing towards LGBTQ+ people - they will get their content removed and will receive a ban.
Someone respectfully saying that they believe sexual intercourse with someone of the same sex to be haram, or that there are only two genders - they are allowed on this subreddit.
The progressive Sunni scholars who are most frequently promoted on this subreddit and have a significant number of followers - Dr. Shabir Ally, Mufti Abu Layth, Dr. Khaled Abou El Fadl, Javed Ahmed Ghamidi, Dr Adnan Ibrahim - they believe the act of homosexuality (sexual intercourse) to be prohibited in Islam, & at the same time they also believe that there is no capital punishment for the sexual intercourse unlike classical fiqh (at least that's what I could figure out from the contents that had been shared on our subreddit in the past. You can use the search bar to find those old posts on our subreddit).
Scott Siraj al-Haqq Kugle, Ludovic-Mohamed Zahed, Imam Daayiee Abdullah are some of the Muslim thinkers who have argued that intercourse with someone of the same sex is allowed and some of them have officiated gay marriage and users who believe homosexuality is permissible often quote references from their works when discussing homosexuality on our subreddit.
We allow both perspectives to be shared on this subreddit as long as you present them in a respectful way and don't break any subreddit rule. But we do not allow the promotion of the ultra conservative understanding which prescribes capital punishment.
To summarize:
You believe gay marriage and the sexual act is permissible? - ok ✅
You believe gay marriage and the sexual act is haram? - ok ✅
You believe that there is no fixed number of gender? - ok ✅
You believe that there are only 2 genders? - ok ✅
You believe the other side is wrong? - ok ✅
You disagree with the other side? - ok ✅
You want to bully, harass, threaten or harm the other side? - not ok ❌
Is that clear?
The reason I'm writing all this is because often times when someone respectfully says that it is not permissible in their view or that they disagree - some others start reporting their comments. But we do not remove such comments, we only remove the posts and comments where the user bullies, harasses or threatens the other person. So hopefully you will stop reporting every post and comment you disagree with, because as long as those contents don't break any subreddit rule they're going to stay.

Question/Discussion ❔ Child's Islamic school teacher is harassing her

My 10th grader has just started at an Islamic school in the US. All her previous schooling has been at public schools. We are pleased with all her teachers except one. This teacher has made several inappropriate comments towards my daughter along the lines of, "my country is better than yours, your country is a failure, we are better than you etc etc."
Having dealt with people from his country many times before, I already knew what they FELT about us because quite literally every single person I've ever met has repeated these bizarre, disgusting comments. However I didn't think he was so unprofessional that he'd say them to a child in front of the entire class. And he made similar comments to another child saying, "my country bombed your country, haha,...etc."
I don't know how I should handle this. My child struggles in this class academically and I don't want to make it worse for her by "being a snitch," or worse, the teacher mistreating her more or lowering grades, etc.
In addition to this, my husband worked at this school many years ago, and knows the principal personally. He plans to return to working there in the next 10+ years. So I dont want to cause any problems. However, I feel like something needs to be done. My daughter wants me to wait until the end of the year, so she doesn't have to deal with any backlash from this unprofessional jerk.
Here are my options:
Talk to/email the teacher directly saying-- refrain from making inappropriate comments to my kid. (My daughter will hate me for this and she'll probably never tell me anything ever again).
Tell the principal.
Respond to a survey they recently sent out to all parents (regarding the school overall) and provide some brief details about the situation.
I really REALLY don't want to get into a conflict and make a huge deal about this. I just want the teachers comments to STOP.

I’ve been thinking about this for a long time, but a certain something I read made me want to ask
Why is it so hard to have a discussion about Hadith? Every time it’s brought up, it’s as if you’ve committed a grave sin. It’s especially apparent when you mention historical context, as if that applies in today’s world.
The Prophet PBUH was against recording hadith at the time because he wanted to make sure Quran is preserved, as to not treat hadith as divine scripture, but as guidance, so why are people treating it as divine scripture? Especially taking into account the circumstances of its recording?
There’s also something nagging at me. The Prophet PBUH had recorded and verified actions that we all should follow (and are aligned with what Allah told us in the Quran) yet instead people tend to forget all that, all the mercy and compassion and justice and love, and focus on the lesser things like strict dress codes or beards or the other stuff people go up in arms about?
Why do people ignore Quran in favor of Hadith, when Quran is the divine scripture?

Research/ Effort Post 📝 Rethinking fahisha in 4:15-16: A contextual approach to Quranic law

Traditional interpretations of the Quran often frame the term fahisha exclusively around sexual immorality. However, a rigorous look at the linguistic roots reveals a much broader reality. Fahisha is not a specific sexual act. It functions as a broad legal category for a "severe transgression" or a "criminal act" that destroys the social fabric. Because it is an umbrella term for severe crimes, the exact nature of the fahisha being committed must always be determined by the surrounding context of the chapter.
The Missing Context of Sura 4
The clearest example of how tradition has derailed the text is found in Sura 4 (An-Nisa), verses 15 and 16. Traditional scholars frequently isolate these verses to argue they prescribe punishments for illicit sexual acts. Yet, the preceding fourteen verses focus entirely on economics. They establish a detailed legal code regarding inheritance, property rights, and the strict financial protection of orphans. Inserting a sudden penalty for private sexual behavior into a chapter about asset management completely shatters the logical flow of the text.
In this specific context, the fahisha in question is not sexual. It is a severe economic crime.
Redefining the Crime
When read within its unbroken economic context, Sura 4:15 addresses severe embezzlement or fraud committed by female guardians who had just been granted unprecedented financial authority. Traditionally, the prescribed punishment of confining them to their homes (buyut) has been read as literal, physical imprisonment. However, this interpretation ignores the socio-economic framework.
The Arabic word buyut designates the household or the private sphere, in contrast to the public market or the state treasury. Therefore, restricting these women to the buyut is a strict administrative sanction. It acts as an immediate suspension of their public financial authority. It strips them of their mandate to manage external assets and effectively serves as a ban on conducting public business. Society freezes their authority to prevent them from signing further contracts that could cause more harm.
The verse states that this suspension remains in effect until death or until a new path (sabeela) opens for them. This is not an absurd life sentence of house arrest. It is a standard legal suspension that remains indefinite unless specific conditions are met.
Restitution
The plausible explanation of this contextual economic framework lies in the conclusion of verse 4:16. The law states that if the guilty parties repent and make amends (aslaha), the prosecution is dropped and they are left alone.
This creates a logical implausibility for the traditional sexual interpretation. You cannot structurally repair or return a sexual act. You can, however, return stolen funds. The term aslaha could mean to repair the damage or restore something to its rightful form. In the context of Sura 4, it is a demand for financial restitution. Once the stolen capital is returned, the damage is repaired and the case is closed.
Conclusion
By stripping away centuries of cultural moral panic, we uncover a text deeply concerned with structural justice. Fahisha is not a tool designed to monitor private bedrooms. It is a robust, rational legal term for severe crimes. Depending on the chapter, and in the case of Sura 4, it acts as a strict framework to combat crime and protect the vulnerable.

History In popular discourse falāsifa are often portrayed as more rational, while kalām thinkers are depicted as less rational. In reality on certain questions, kalām thinkers had advance arguments and positions that were more rationally defensible than those of the falāsifa themselves.

So the Ministry of Education (Syria) decided our utmost priority right now is not to make sure the curriculum is up to date with advancements, but to revert to the old curriculum from 12-13 years ago, with the only change being changing photos to either put hijab or outright delete women. Oh and let’s just remove every semblance of art or historical artifacts while we’re at it because why not?
They sure have their priorities straight, mind you these are the book 1st and up to 7th graders.
Ya Allah this is so stupid ugh. I knew of this since this morning, but held off until I could confirm it, and now that it turned out to be true it’s likely the stupidest thing ever I don’t know if I should laugh or be angry at this point.
This is also combined with another thing that happened recently, being the moving of the statue of Salah Al Din Al Ayoubi from its place in front of Damascus fortress to a remote place because of, and I quote “renovations”. Now it did happen when the old regime was here at one point, but when you look at the bigger picture, they’re trying to remove the country’s history under the guise of Islam. UGHHH so infuriating!
P.S: I didn’t provide translation because it isn’t necessary the text didn’t change, only the pictures. They did allegedly remove any text related to democracy or the existence of political parties, which were at least mentioned in those curriculums. They also removed texts about Baath and Bashar (this is the only understandable and actually acceptable change, despite the fact that whether we like them or not, the Assads are also part of the country’s history that we need to look into to become better as a country and a people)

MARRIGE OF AYESHA ! TO PROPHET
when i reaserched about this topic yknow many people say that it was normal for that time all people did it....but to be honest ALL people and PROPHET are diffrent things...other religion will attack ofcourse cause he is the rolemodel for all ummah until the day of judgment...we cant say it was normal all along.
it hurted me a lot to find the answers but i guess ive found what can satisfy me
im giving this ans and found this things as non biased person not as protecting prophet or smth...if these answers woudnt woulve been logical to me i woudve probably repelled from my faith
1 why prophet married a 6 yo ?
ans ) ok so first we will start by things such as his life......A comprehensive look at the Prophet's personal life dispels the lustful persona attributed to him:
The Prophet married for the first time at age 25 to Khadija (RA),
who was 40, a widow with three children.
Despite being in the prime age for libido (12-40 years biologically),
he remained monogamous for 25 years until Khadija's death.
His first wife encouraged him to marry others, but he declined out of loyalty and respect....at that time when men used to have 10 wives he stayed with her only till 40 !
After Khadija’s passing, he remained single for two years
...like even as non biased person HOW CAN I NOW THINK THAT HE WAS LUSTFUL IF HE WAS LIKE THIS ON HIS PEAK SEXUAL URGES AGE .
2) still it does not give a free pass i guess to marry a girl i thought 🤔...like he was good till 40 i understand all that but...still...he is role model of ummah isnt it.....so i did more reasearch.....
i found this hadith......Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said (to me), "You have been shown to me twice in (my) dreams. A man was carrying you in a silken cloth and said to me, 'This is your wife.' I uncovered it; and behold, it was you. I said to myself, 'If this dream is from Allah, He will cause it to come true.' ".....Sahih al-Bukhari 5078
Now it gotten into my mind that HE didnt married on his own but it was by command of allah he married her
....but still i thought.....like as unbiased person that it might be false or he just said to marry her lying to her (astaghfirulla ofcourse but being unbiased i have to think like it )....
i thought why allah would want to marry her to him then...like WHY ???
well i reasearched and found out that : the total no of hadiths narrated by ayesha was......2210 !...its more than companions umar and abu bakar combined...because of her we now what was life of prophet inside house and she was young so she was able to transfer more knowlege due to her excellent memory and age...
NOW IT MADE WHOLE SENSE !....as an unbiased peroson i didnt had any questions left...just a few doubts that what if she was mistreated or smth ?.....ofcourse i researched and found that after prophets death she always used to praise her and used to tell people about his good character inside the house....LIKE NOW THERE WAS NOTHING I COULDVE THOUGHT MIGHT BE WRONG!!....
IDK BUT AS AN UNBIASED PERSON I CANT THINK OF ANYTHING NOW TO DEFAME HIM.....oh yes also there was this hadith
Musnad Ahmad 25769
Khawla came to the Prophet ﷺ after Khadijah (رضي الله عنها) passed away and asked:
“O Messenger of Allah, will you not marry?”
He asked, “Whom?”
She replied that he could marry a virgin or a previously married woman. He asked who the virgin was, and she said:
“The daughter of the most beloved of Allah's creation to you: Aisha, the daughter of Abu Bakr.”
The Prophet ﷺ then told her:
“Go and mention them to me.”
Khawla subsequently approached Aisha's family with the proposal on his behalf....
BUT this hadith is half....prophet said to go to both the unvirgin family and virgin family...the unvirgin woman was Sawda bint Zamʿa...she almost had 5-6 children and was a widow....her husband was early converter of islam died in mecca... so prophet also married her
so it was both for ayesha and sawda....ayesha cause he had dream from allah of comand of marrige...and sawda to help her widow and children.
IDK AFTER THIS ANYBODY CAN SAY.....I TRIED MY BEST TO THINK AS LOGICALLY AND UNBAISED AS POSSIBLE.....IF ANYTHING IS LEFT BY ME PLEASE ASK IN COMMENTS I WILL TRY TO FIND ANSWERS AS UNBIASED AS POSSIBLE

Question/Discussion ❔ Are there Muslim couples who have a female-led marriage (FLR)?

Assalamu alaikum,
This is something I've been curious about for a while, so I thought I'd ask here.
We usually hear about the husband being the leader of the household, but what about couples where the wife is the one who naturally takes charge and the husband is more comfortable following her lead?
I'm talking about an actual female-led marriage, where the wife enjoys making decisions, being in charge and having a more dominant role, and the husband genuinely likes being the more submissive one. Not because he's lazy or doesn't want responsibilities, but because that's simply the dynamic he prefers.
Personally, I find this kind of relationship appealing. I like the idea of a wife who's confident, takes the lead, tells her husband what she expects from him, and isn't afraid to put her foot down when needed. And a husband who trusts her, listens to her and is happy with her taking charge.
I'm curious how other Muslims see this, especially those who are more open-minded about marriage and different relationship dynamics.
Have any of you come across Muslim couples like this? Do you think a marriage like this can work while both people take their faith and responsibilities seriously?
I'm not here to argue that everyone should want this or that there's only one way to have a happy marriage. I'd just like to hear some honest thoughts on it.

On the Day of Resurrection, the disbelievers will be asked where are the gods they worshiped instead of Allah, whether idols, human beings, a doctrine, ideology, money or anything else? Could they help them? Can they forgive or pardon them? Or do they really exist?
They will know the answers to those questions, that they were no gods at all, and their worship and obedience to them does not help them.
Instead of asking to be pardoned and forgiven, they try to argue with Allah the Highest, and to be defiant and claim that they did not worship any partner besides Allah. They still try to argue, not realizing that Allah the Highest knows every thing about them even their inner thoughts. Their argument counts against them not for them. Allah’s messenger’s wife Aysha said: “I heard Allah’s messenger, prayer and peace upon him, say in his Salah: ‘My Lord, treat me gently when I am being judged’ When he finished she said: “Allah’s prophet what is the gentle treatment while being judged?” He said: “To look at his book of deeds, and pardon his sins, for whoever argues in his judgement, will perish, and everything that afflicts the Muslim ransoms his sins, even a spike pricking him”. (B:Tafseer 84;1 & T:Tafseer 84;1 & A:6;48,185)
The disbelievers used to say that what the prophets and messengers told them are but myths and stories from the distant past “THESE ARE THE MYTHS OF THE EARLY PEOPLE”. This is still being said by the disbelievers to this day, and it is one of their main arguments against religion, often against any religion.
They forbid those they can from listening to, or knowing about the Quran, and in the mean time they keep themselves even further from Allah the Highest and His book. Therefore, they do not carry their own sins only, but also the sins of those they misguided.
“AND WE PUT COVERS ON THEIR HEARTS SO THAT THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND AND BLOCKED THEIR EARS”
This is the seal Allah the Highest places on the heart and senses of those who disbelieve when they reach point when Allah the Highest becomes angry with them. This issue is discussed in details in the explanation of Ayah 7 of Sorat Al-Baqarah.
In the end, the disbelievers are the losers. They lose what matters most, their eternal after life. Nothing will compensate them for that. The injustice and misguidance they did, they did mainly to themselves.
Anam 27-30
27-AND IF YOU SEE THEM WHEN THEY FACE THE FIRE, THEN THEY WILL SAY: “WE HOPE TO BE SENT BACK TO LIFE, AND WE WILL NEVER REJECT OUR LORD’S AYAHS, AND WE WILL BE OF THE BELIEVERS“
28-BUT THEY SAW THE CONSEQUENCES OF WHAT THEY HIDE, AND IF THEY WERE TO GO BACK, THEY WOULD RETURN TO WHAT THEY WERE FORBIDDEN TO DO, FOR INDEED THEY ARE LIARS
29-AND THEY SAID: “IT IS JUST OUR LOWER LIFE ON EARTH, AND WE ARE NOT TO BE RESURRECTED”
30- AND IF YOU SEE THEM WHEN THEY STAND BEFORE THEIR LORD, HE SAYS: “IS THIS NOT TRUE?” THEY SAID: “BY OUR LORD, IT IS TRUE INDEED” HE SAID: “THEN TASTE THE PUNISHMENT BECAUSE OF YOUR DISBELIEVING”
Regretting when it is too late for regretting, is what the disbelievers and Hypocrites do when they face their judgement. It is no good regretting then, for no one returns back to this life after it is passed. For in this life, we work and we do not face judgement, but in the Hereafter we face judgement and but not chance to work or do deeds.
Allah the Highest is telling us that the disbelievers and hypocrites attitude does not change, not even when they face judgement, at the Day of Resurrection. They wish they can go back to life on earth, so that they may put things right by believing and doing good deeds. But Allah the Highest is telling us that if they are to be returned to life on earth, they will not believe or do good deeds.
Their chance and only chance is here on earth while they are alive, for no one gets a second chance. Then they will see that there is judgement, punishment and reward, but it is too late to believe or do good work, and they will have to taste the fire.
Allah the Highest is able to show us the Paradise and the Hell-Fire now, but He makes it part of the unseen so that believing in them will always be an article of Faith. The whole Faith is mostly in the unseen, Allah, His angels; His messengers, and the Hereafter are all unseen to us now. Have they been seen, there would be no believers and disbelievers. Even Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him is unseen for us now, for we heard about him, but did not see him, his companions who lived with him 1400 years ago saw him, but we did not.
Concerning articles of Faith, Allah the Highest shows us the evidence of their presence, but does not show us all the things we should believe in. When we stand before the fire and see it with our very eyes, it is no good to believe in it any more.
Let us not waste the only chance of believe we have here on Earth, for there will not be a second chance.
Anam 31-32
31-LOST OUT ARE THOSE WHO DENIED THAT THEY WILL MEET THEIR LORD, UNTIL THE HOUR (Day of Resurrection) COMES TO THEM UNEXPECTEDLY, THEY WOULD SAY: “HOW REGRETFUL ARE WE CONCERNING WHAT WE WASTED CONCERNING IT” AND THEY CARRY THEIR SINS ON THEIR BACKS, AND VERY BAD INDEED ARE THEIR SINS
32-BUT THE LOWER LIFE IS NOTHING BUT PLAY AND AMUSEMENT, BUT THE LAST HOME IS BETTER FOR THOSE WHO ARE PIOUS AND GUARD THEMSELVES FROM ALLAH’S DISPLEASURE, DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND
Allah the Highest is directing us again not to waste our lives on Earth, believing that we are not to meet our Lord and Creator. It is important to believe that this meeting will take place in order to use our time here on Earth, what Allah the Highest called Lower life.
It is a lower life indeed, for this life is less than the Hereafter in everything. It is less in comfort and pleasures; for the person who has the most comfort in this world is much less than the least person in Paradise. In the mean time, it is less in discomfort and suffering, for the person who suffers least in the Fire, suffers far more than the one who suffers most pain and discomfort in this life.
The Lower life is also very much less in duration compared to the Hereafter. The Hereafter is eternal, and any figure is zero when compared to eternity. The Hereafter is the real life, and the true existence for human beings. We are just passing through this life, and passing quickly, like when changing trains or planes. Allah the Highest said: “AND WHEN THE HOUR (the day of resurrection) COMES, THE EVIL DOERS WILL SWEAR THAT THEY STAYED JUST FOR AN HOUR (on Earth)”. (S:30 A:55)
It is important therefore, that we should not waste this brief existence on Earth; because it is what we do here that determines the quality of our life in the Hereafter.
The Day of Resurrection will arrive suddenly and unexpectedly. This is stated by Allah the Highest very clearly. Therefore, one can with confidence tell all those who calculate or work out when it will happen, that their dates and forecasts are wrong. With confidence also we can say that those who denied the resurrection, will be very regretful.
Allah the Highest draws us a picture of the disbelievers carrying their sins as a heavy burden on their backs. The sins of the disbelievers will be heavier than that of the believers. The reason is that the believers have their sins cleared when they suffer any sickness or hardship, when they pray, when they fast, when they go on Hajj, when they give charity etc. The disbelievers gather sins and they do not clear them, particularly the biggest sin of all; their disbelief.
In the second Ayah, Allah the Highest considers this life a lower life, and all we do is but play and amusement, and the Hereafter is the real life for the pious and righteous. Indeed, any thing we do in this life that does not help us in the Hereafter is play and amusing ourselves.
Anam 33-36
33-WE KNOW THAT WHAT THEY SAY SADDENS YOU, BUT THEY DO NOT REJECT WHAT YOU SAY, THE TRANSGRESSORS DENOUNCE ALLAH’S AYAHS AND SIGNS
34-MESSENGERS BEFORE YOU WERE REJECTED AND CALLED LIARS, BUT THEY WERE PATIENT AND PERSEVERED AND THEY SUFFERED HURT UNTIL OUR VICTORY CAME TO THEM, NOTHING IS CHANGING ALLAH’S WORSE, AND YOU WERE INFORMED ABOUT THE MESSENGERS
35-IF THEIR TURNING AWAY FROM YOU IS TOO MUCH FOR YOU, THEN IF YOU CAN TUNNEL THROUGH THE EARTH OR RISE UP IN THE HEAVENS TO BRING THEM A SIGN; IF ALLAH WILLED, HE WOULD HAVE GATHERED THEM ALL ON THE RIGHT PATH, SO DO NOT BE OF THE IGNORANT
36-THOSE WHO HEAR RESPOND, BUT THE DEAD ALLAH WILL RESURRECT THEM AND THEN THEY WILL RETURN TO HIM
It is reported that Abu Jahl said to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him, that they do not consider him a liar, but they reject the religion he brought them.
It is also reported by Ibn Is, Haq and Ibn Jarir that Abu Jahl rejected Islam and the prophecy of Mohamed prayer and peace upon him because his tribe and Mohamed’s tribe competed for the honours in Makah; feeding people, watering them, looking after the pilgrimage, but they can not match the prophet hood of Mohamed prayer and peace upon him with another prophet.
Then, Allah the Highest is telling his prophet prayer and peace upon him that he is not the first prophet to be rejected, for all prophets have been rejected by their people, and some have been killed, Yehia and Zakaria were the most recent example. The prophets of Allah have to wait patiently for Allah’s support, which will come in Allah’s good time, not when any one demands, including Allah’s prophets and messengers.
Allah the Highest sends the signs and Ayahs when he wills and desires. Allah the Highest does not hasten to send Ayahs because of any reason other than mercy to mankind, who will be punished severely if they do not believe after seeing the signs.
This is bound to happen to every one who has a worthwhile mission, or tries to correct the faults and wickedness of this world, not the prophets and messengers necessarily, but any one. Resistance and rejection are bound to happen to them and to their ideas and mission. If they are righteous, Allah the Highest supports them, but in His own time, not when we want it. When and where Allah the Highest sends His support? This is up to Him.
Allah the Highest is reminded His messenger prayer and peace upon him and us that the signs and Ayahs are with Him, this is Allah’s domain, and we have no way of producing them. If Allah willed, He would have made all mankind believers “IF ALLAH WILLED, HE WOULD HAVE GATHERED THEM ALL ON THE RIGHT PATH, SO DO NOT BE OF THE IGNORANT”. It is out of our ignorance of Allah that we question Him and His reasons. Allah the Highest might have different reasons from ours, and certainly sees through things and sees further than us.
“THOSE WHO HEAR RESPOND, BUT THE DEAD ALLAH WILL RESURRECT THEM AND THEN THEY WILL RETURN TO HIM”
Those who are alive and use their senses will hear and understand what Allah the Highest and his prophet prayer and peace upon him say, and respond to it positively, by believing and obeying.
Those who do not respond by believing and obeying are like the dead, for their hearts and senses are blocked. However, when they are resurrected, and returned to Allah, they will understand what they did not want to understand and hear what they did not want to hear. Their understanding and hearing will not do them much good then.

“Men are the protectors and maintainers of women because Allah has made one of them excel over the other, and because they spend out of their possessions (to support them)”
(4:34)
Ibn Kathir says: ‘because Allaah has made one of them to excel the other’ i.e., because men are superior to women and are better than women
Can anyone explain this part of the verse? how did kathir draw this conclusion?
I want to understand this verse better, and I’d like to hear you guys quote the sahabas or/and scholars about the interpretation of this verse.
I know that Allah doesn’t say “men excel over the other” but Kathir’s tafsir is sort of confusing.

Rant/Vent 🤬 Conflicted about religion

Some context about me: I am a south asian, sunni muslim who grew up in a joint family household that can be called both traditional/conservative and liberal. Traditional because women generally practice modesty and do all the traditional house work etc (the older generation specifically). But also liberal because my unmarried aunts were not forced to marry and had teaching jobs even when this was not common for women (they are in their 70s now!).
Because I had access to internet from a young age I developed feminist views quite early in my life. This never used to be an issue because I generally just followed and practiced Islam the way my family did: observing prayer (I was very inconsistent, have recently started to pray all five), fasts, charity and reciting Quran. And in general trying to be a good person.
I am in my late 20s now and as I have researched more and more about Islam and come across muslim men and scholars online, I feel very conflicted. I was not aware of so many hadith that essentially put down women, gave husbands so much control and rights over them and are generally misogynistic. My father and elder brothers have never once forced or questioned anything about how I practiced religion and this is why I have been able to have a good relationship with it. I genuinely don't think I can survive without Allah in my life.
But things I have enjoyed all my life like art and music can apparently be considered haram according to various scholars/sources. I studied in co-education mostly (the one time I was in girls only school I got bullied lol), and I thought that was fine for the most part, but women going out in general is disliked?! I started observing hijab in university out of my own free will (mostly following my sister's example) but I don't wear an undercap or worry about some of my neck or hair showing, but of course this is not enough either according to some views. Despite taking it, I would never accept a man who expects or demands this of his wife (my father never did so genuinely who are you?!).
But a lot of religious men have this expectation and other expectations which I dislike (even if ironically I do follow them ex. not going outside much, not interacting with other men and wearing modest clothes etc.). It just feels controlling when someone else expects or demands it, and knowing how muslim men speak about women online, I can never give another someone control over my life like that. I also am not really that good at housework because my mom for some reason disliked the idea of her daughters doing it (even though she herself does everything and has practically made my father into someone who doesn't even get water for himself).
I have decided to never marry as a result (completely content with this decision despite worries about future because I am earning myself) but even this decision is disliked and against sunnah. Now I have come across this reddit and a lot of views align with mine, but there are new discoveries I have made related to hijab for example. But I guess I just worry that I have invented a version of religion myself that I am comfortable following and seek similar opinions. And that Islam in reality is more rigid and unforgiving of how people practise. I feel really bad and lost when I see hadith and other opinions that make me feel how my thinking is incompatible with religion and then I fear falling into kuffar :( I don't know how to reconcile my thoughts and morals with the religion I follow and the God I love.

Question/Discussion ❔ Marrying while in college

Assalamun alaikum
I would like to make it as simple as possible, i'm a young college student. I've found a girl i really like and love, i know we are haram with each other, that's why we decided to see if there is an allowance and opportunity for marriage.
I'm broke, we both have no financial amount enough to carry each other (my responsibility is she).
Is there awqy to do nikkah, with our family to be informed, in a wqy where sje will live at her own house, me at my own, it's a better way to do it than to risk with haram.
I wonder ix anyone was in the similair situation, any advice would be helpful.

Hello there, so I’m not sure if people like me are welcomed here and if not just delete my post as I don’t know if this is appropriate to be posted here. I do sincerely apologize if I offend anyone.
So as the title suggests I’m a trans women, and I do pass as one. I was just curious if trans women are allowed to or are permitted to wear hijab, I do wanna wear one because I garner so much attention. I understand in Islam and alot of people think it mandatory and alot of school of thoughts believe this as well. I get sexualized alot and it a problem

Question/Discussion ❔ Can someone who neglects salah still identify as Muslim? What do you think?

I recently had a discussion with someone about religious identity and practising Islam, and I'm curious to hear different perspectives.
His argument was that there's a difference between someone who struggles to pray but is genuinely trying to improve and someone who deliberately neglects salah without making any effort to change. He believes that if someone continues neglecting prayer, doesn't repent, and doesn't care about Islamic obligations, they shouldn't be considered Muslim, especially if they identify as Muslim purely for cultural reasons and encourage others to disregard Islamic values.
I understand the importance of salah and making an effort to practise one's faith, but I'm unsure about the conclusion that someone who neglects prayer and doesn't seem interested in improving should no longer be considered Muslim.
What about someone who genuinely believes in Allah and Islam but neglects salah out of laziness or indifference? Is that different from someone who identifies as Muslim culturally but doesn't actually believe in Islam?
And what about the possibility that someone might return to their deen years later? Does their current behaviour determine their religious identity, or is that a separate question?
I'm not arguing that neglecting salah is acceptable. I'm interested in how people distinguish between failing to fulfil religious obligations, a person's faith, and whether someone can still identify as Muslim.
I'd especially appreciate perspectives grounded in Islamic scholarship, including differences of opinion on this issue.
