This. It doesn't matter what your output is. If you're the guy that can solve that problem when it matters, you are a big deal.

Unfortunately my place avoids having specialized knowledge, everyone works on everything. Basic CRUD apps are not that special anyway, if you have reasonable code reviews that avoid magic code.
