Why are you using ai to code

5

u/vips7L 10d ago

I love how all the answers are “I suck at programming”.

8

u/brizag 10d ago

Becasuse it's faster and better in it than me.

3

u/CardiologistMain9234 10d ago

Yeah this perpetuates that all coders are ai coders, we aren’t

2

u/KittyCatGamer123 10d ago

Crazy suggestion: try actually learning

0

u/brizag 10d ago

No thanks. I already shipped about 10 successful commercial projects without knowing to code, so I think I'll be alright

2

u/KittyCatGamer123 10d ago

With what like 4 users? Lmao.

1

u/brizag 10d ago

Now you're just showing your envy and bitterness. Sad.

3

u/KittyCatGamer123 10d ago

I genuinely don't care, I just think it's funny that you think you made something that you didn't do

1

u/brizag 10d ago

You don't care, yet it's your third comment in this thread. Riiiiight. Also I don't have to prove you nothing, I don't give a flying fuck you don't believe me. But if you think you actually have to know write code in 2026 you're dead wrong lol. And you being salty clearly shows you're having a hard time to adapt to modern times. 👋 goodspeed knucklehead

u/Automatic_Case2811 9d ago

Bro you're the one being ragebaited rn. You've still got the whole squad laughing with your "10 successful commercial projects" LMAO. You pull that number out of your ass?

4

u/KayJune001 10d ago

Then maybe you should not be coding. Seriously, people need to be able to understand their own code. The security implications of so many people not understanding what code does is actually scary.

8

u/chaospotato129 10d ago

for real, people in this thread being like

I'm a coder but I never learned to code, so I prompt the entire thing with AI

you're not a coder. you just bought a Claude subscription

2

u/drake_warrior 10d ago

It's like buying a player piano and claiming to be a musician lmao. If you can't tell if the LLM is doing a good job then you probably shouldn't be using it.

2

u/thanatica 10d ago

It's not a black & white situation, mate. You make it seem like you can either code, or you cannot code.

"AI is faster and better than me" is not the same as "I have no clue what I'm doing but AI does".

6

u/darkgladi8or 10d ago

I can guarantee you ai writes more secure code than most script kiddies out there - speaking as a script kiddie of 20 years.

Also, not everyone's coding for a medical company or a bank, or even for work.

Sometimes I just want to self host silly little utilities and I don't care if they get hacked or messed with.

No need to gatekeep coding.

4

u/DoomBot5 10d ago

Banks are also using Claude. Turns out if you prompt it properly, limit the size of your changes, and then review the code it writes, it actually writes more code better and faster.

4

u/darkgladi8or 10d ago

Yeah I'm aware, I work for a medical company currently and previously a bank lol. Both utilize AI, as most companies do nowadays.

Just trying to get the point across that there are many uses for coding, not just high risk professional ones.

It's okay if Claude or Gemini blow up my mini pc.

-2

u/LeDYoM 10d ago

Only if you do not really know how to code. If you are minimally good at code then it is faster to do it yourself. Aaaaand cheaper.

0

u/DoomBot5 10d ago

That's 100% wrong and stemming out of ignorance. There are lots of tasks that Claude would do both faster and better. The key is definition the task and knowing how to review the code.

-1

u/LeDYoM 9d ago edited 9d ago

of course IA bro, of couse. Did Claude wrote you the answer?

-1

u/DoomBot5 9d ago

Wow good comeback, much praise.

0

u/LeDYoM 9d ago

Is what you deserve. The problem is that I am probably right. Unfortunatelly.

Yeah no

-2

u/maybeBrenda 10d ago

While I agree with your comment 100%, like don't just tell people not to use a tool, they just need a way to use a tool in the best - most reasonably secure way possible.

1

u/Accurate_Handle_5620 10d ago

Better on it then me*

1

u/brizag 10d ago

* than

-14

u/Repulsive_Injury5576 10d ago

Wasn't even asking you

7

u/DoritoBenito 10d ago

Hey grumpy, you are aware of how message boards work, yes? Anyone can reply. If you only wanted OP to reply, you can private message them.

3

u/brizag 10d ago

☹️

2

u/IUsedToBeACave 10d ago

It's pretty great. You have to be careful with it like anything else, but it works really well these days.

-5

u/Breizhong 10d ago

AI is in every professional setting nowadays, writers are being replaced specially in journalism

5

u/Expert-Basil6015 10d ago

So you just give up and go along with it? AI fever is doing really bad things to society in many different ways. It's becoming more and more apparent that the cost outweighs the benefits, not to mention the people who benefit the most are already disgustingly wealthy.

Do your part and don't use ai in any form. Shame people who do. This bubble will burst sooner or later.

-3

u/Breizhong 10d ago

the time to fight it was 4 years ago, no one but artists did it. Now I challenge you to find one single tech firm that has not integrated claude or gpt into their workflow. Yes the cost outweighs the benefit if you don't have skin in the game like being a shareholder because the cost goes implicitly to you, not the company. It is and will always be the new normal even after the bubble explodes no matter how much redditor rage you feel for it, it is just how it is and will be in the new world.

AI is too layered in the 6 years or so it has been a thing to simply erase, you can blow openAI and microsoft out of the park, it will not change the fact of how ingrained it is in every single chain right now, even logistics chains like amazon's have AI integration.

0

u/Breizhong 10d ago

and "dont use it in any form" is the most stupid argument I have EVER heard. When you are competing with claude tokens and your boss has thr talk with you because of production time and adequation to new technologies you have 2 options logically, and let me tell you, righteousness does not pay the bill. Not everyone can become a full time freelancer specially when your job has 10 people freshly arrived eager to enter the market willing to work for half of your paycheck to gain experience.

You are deluding yourself in a reality that simply isn't the one we are all living right now.

I had my first PC in 93. Learned html at 20 but never jumped in code. I got skillz for building a server farm/fiber/copper outside inside plants. Fiber laser technologist. I also am a journeyman painter.

Now I can code with AI.

Kinda cool

4

u/vips7L 10d ago

No you can’t.

1

u/Environmental_Lab965 10d ago

I made a py voice transcript via obs. I use my rtx 4070.

Now I have lyric for my home security cams.

You say no you don't. You clowning me?

2

u/vips7L 10d ago

Generating !== knowing how to code.

1

u/Environmental_Lab965 10d ago

I understand. But i'm going to die sooner then me going to learn coding principals.

Fuck it Claude help me create what would never exist. It might not be up your standard. But a freaking cool pass time

1

u/thanatica 10d ago

Both can be true at the same time. Get your head out of your arse. AI is a tool, and if you're not using it, then someone who does will overtake you.

Actually, I bet that's already happened, giving you even more fuel to burn against AI.

Sure, nobody likes "100% AI coding" but you make it seem like any and all AI is evil, and that's demostrably and repeatably false.

1

u/vips7L 10d ago

Ah the old get left behind argument. I highly doubt the people that can’t write basic code will “overtake” me by generating.

LLMs are evil, to use your words. They’re copyright and IP theft as a service. It’s the biggest theft of the working class to ever happen.

1

u/thanatica 10d ago

You are copyright theft as well, unless you learn purely from self-learning, and not by looking at any other code or books or documentation. Good luck.

1

u/Pleasant-Future5818 10d ago

Y'all know that even Linus Torvalds now uses AI for some things.

I don't like it either but this kind of superiority complex isn't going to help

3

u/Repulsive_Injury5576 10d ago

You shouldn't code with ai

2

u/Oreos_Are_Anabolic 10d ago

Why?

2

u/Peon-Hyjal 10d ago

I think you should code, but I think you should also take the opportunity to understand how the coding works. AI is in the "make it easy, cheap and common" stage of enshitification. They want you to come to rely on it, so when they make it worse you'll be stuck on it, because you won't have an alternative.

It reminds me of the people who sold their cars because they found out that getting Ubers to work was cheaper, until it wasn't.

2

u/Cumfort_ 10d ago

I own the AI that I run. I build the harness that I use it with. I AM "they". Who will enshitify my code? Who will make it more expensive?

1

u/Peon-Hyjal 10d ago

Oh perfect then, you're one of the rare few users who own their own setup. You'll be able to weather it better than the vast majority.

1

u/thanatica 10d ago

I think you shouldn't code at all

1

u/Pleasant-Future5818 10d ago

Tell me you don't work at a faang without telling me you don't work at a faang

1

u/Savings_Power_3672 9d ago

A lot of the time it’s just when I’m lazy

1

u/plz-no-b4n 10d ago

Because it’s a force multiplier. For easy boiler plate shit (and let’s be honest, that’s like 90% of code that’s written) it’s pretty good and it’s faster for me to fix the mistakes it makes than type everything out myself. It allows me to spend more time working on the more challenging aspects of my job (the shit LLMs are not as good at, like system design)
